Oh, hey, Gandalf! :) Obviously, judges will not be entering, but there's no reason a mod couldn't enter.

We can always come up with a snappy title for you... Snowmeister, mayhaps?

Good openings, everyone! This looks like it will be tough! :)

I'll ask the same thing I asked of the Ghastly Fiction challenge... will the judges be posting responses?

If I may ask all those entering to post here when they are *finished* their story, I think that will help us judges. :)

As to posting comments... we'll have to discuss it. There are pros and cons to public commentary, perhaps some authors would prefer posts in their thread, or a PM with the judges' comments... we'll talk about it and see.

Keep those stories coming! The more the merrier!

I'll make sure to post a finishing notice for H4tH. And, Derisa, if you're keeping track, I'd like public comments on my thread. :)

    The Last Niabara Night
    Link: [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=14229370]http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=14229370[/link]
Synopsis: Forbidden most material possessions, on Niabara Night the Jedi share stories as gifts. But five years after the declaration of the Empire, the Jedi are fractured and their fire is fast disappearing from the galaxy. This is the story of the last Niabara Night, the final sharing of stories.

It's actually sort of dangerously close to a violation of the "no vignettes" prohibition. The frame story is going to be about 6000 words or so all told, and so not a vignette, but the stories that the Jedi themselves tell would count as vignettes if they were on their own. I am teh sneaky. [face_devil]

It feels good to be writing again. :)

Well, I guess if your fic is built around what was only the idea for my next post (the swapping of stories), then originality is still in place...

But, dang. As I posted over in Gandalf's thread, the synopsis alone makes me envy his writing...

Gandolf, it's nice to know I'm not the only one pushing the no vignette rule. :p

My second post is almost entirely a story being told. :p

Sorry about that. It?s a good idea, but I won't claim it's original in of itself - Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time, The Sandman, Canterbury Tales and The Arabian Nights all do stories-within-stories to one degree or another, just to name a few. :p As for stories as gifts, looking at the requirements for the challenge, I think that it?s a pretty easy idea to come to. :)

You only have to provide a link with the first post, jodiwent, you don't have to tell us when you add posts.

I've been lurking through these (I will post my comments after judging is finished), and I must say it won't be easy! There are a LOT of good stories here!

[link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=14279078&replies=0]Snowbound Legacy[/link] is currently up on the Beyond the Saga board. So far, its cast is compiled completely of OCs, and I think it's going to stay that way.

I've been reading some of the posts on this thread, and it seems a lot of us are attempting a sort of story-within-a-story approach. (Actually, mine is more of two interrelated stories, but it's the same root idea. :) ) I'm looking forward to reading the other entries!

I just couldn't resist; I made a quick reference in my latest post to a passing reference Gandalf the Grey made in The Last Niabara Night. :)

I'd do the same for Sandstorm Celebration if it could make sense, chronologically....

Like many other people, I'm working the story-within-a-story angle. My first post is up.
