Seeing this thread come up, I'm reminded of a comment by Irvin Kershner, the director of ESB, who said that during filming, Peter Mayhew was sick for a couple of days, and they decided to use a stand-in for Chewbacca. Well, of course they had to re-shoot the scenes, because the gestures and movements were all wrong, not "Chewie" at all! Even in longshots, said Kersh, you could tell it wasn't the real Chewbacca!

Long live Peter Mayhew and his adorable blue eyes!
