Do you guys have a standard word at the start?

 

Five tries today. Total mental block on that word.

Like if you have friends "bragging" about it, unfollow or unfriend. It's people like this who go out of their way to spoil you are the real *** *****. TFA was spoiled to me by a "friend" who was annoyed that I was posting about Star Wars too much back in 2015. I probably was, but if he had just unfollowed or unfriended, that would have been the solution, but instead he had to post a major spoiler 20 hours before I saw it. I hate people like this.

I normally start with PARTY. Today I started with AUDIO. The other day I started with SIREN.

 

A strategy that helps me is I find myself opening up MS Excel and I type out possible words to help me visualize it without the noise from the previous guesses. Of course you have to keep the noise in mind knowing what letters are and are NOT included. I do my best to not repeat letters from my first guess in my second guess. If I guess EARTH as my first guess then my second guess will not have A-E-H-R or T in it.

On my third guess I did RURAL. The first R was yellow and the second R was gray so I knew R had to be last. Then I had U and A right. So I type _ U _ A R into excel, looked at the letter I used and didn't use, and then got the answer of SUGAR

i try a different word each time, but i usually go with a lot of common letters, something like realm or stone. today i went with shade and got it in 4.

 

Vowels are obligate letters in any word but are limited in number, so I typically pick a word that has several different vowels in order to capture a wide portion of the range.

 

i tried that a few times (with words like audio), but i've found that two vowels is fine. you'll either get them right or eliminate them which is helpful for the next guess either way.

 

Lately I’ve been starting with “SHINE” since it has five letters that are relatively common. If it gets no hits, my follow-up is usually “LABOR.” I’m not sure if it’s an optimal setup but it works well enough for me.

 

Got it in 5, felt kinda dumb.

 

Really? Does this work for you? I always try to keep incorporating more of the words I got a yellow on. It does get frustrating though, as sometimes I'll have mental block about new words that can incorporate them, change their position, and test new letters all at once.

 

yeah, any letters i get right i use in all my subsequent guesses.

 

Force or Farce. So far I've been able to solve all the puzzles.

 

I‘ve used FIRST each time I’ve played so far (4 or 5 times). It occured to me that a word with 2 or 3 vowels would probably be smarter, but now I don‘t want to switch our of fear that FIRST will be the word as soon as I switch.

Though I will stop once I've got 4 or 5 letters, so I don't always need to use all 4

 

I'm sorry. I don't repeat grey letters even if it's a word that helps be maybe get the yellow letter in the right place.

 

Today's is the first one I've ever failed.

 

I got it on my fourth try. Getting the final letter on my second guess was the key to figuring it out.

Today's was a *****. 6/6. I didn't think I was going to get it. I hate when my first word is all gray.

 

I got it in three but it was not a very glamorous success.

Me: "There's no way it's [solution] but I've got these four letters and **** me if I can think of anything else for them. Guess I'll try that."

got it in 4. it was a tough one, but i felt good about my guess progression.
