CHAPTER SIX

Anakin sat in a numb state as finned hands lightly poked and prodded every inch of his body. Occasionally he would flinch as a particularly tender spot was found and quickly bactaed or chanelled healing energy.

Sitting on the cool leather table in nothing more then a pair of brief shorts, a chill shook his body. Blessedly the prodding ceased and a warmed blanket was draped around him. Burrowing into it, he glanced up from under lowered lashes as his companion remained unusually silent.

Large silver eyes studied him sorrowfully, causing him to swallow tightly in reaction.

"I would feel better if you spent a few hours in the tank," Bant informed him.

When he shook his head negatively, she sighed.

"Anakin... I'm so sorry!" Bant said in a trembling voice.

Shutting his eyes tightly in order to hold back another bout of tears, he clenched his jaw and nodded.Reaching out, she lightly stroked a lank of long blond hair.

"Is there anything you need? Something to help you sleep perhaps?" she asked gently.

"I'm good," he assured her.

Her troubled gaze rested on him for another few seconds before she moved over to the counter to make some notes on a datapad.

"Are we through?" he asked.

Glancing up, she gave him a quick look over before nodding reluctantly.

"Since you won't allow me to properly treat you,I suppose," she said with an edge of frustration in her tone.

The door slid open and they both looked over to find Jivan standing hesitantly in the opening.His mesmerizing sapphire eyes traveled over the young knight before he appeared to breath a sigh of relief to find him in relatively good shape.

"Hi Ani.Master Obi-Wan sent me to escort you back to your rooms," he said as he moved to stand next to his friend.

A warm smile curved Anakin's lips," Hi runt."

Bant's face tightened into troubled lines at the boys words.

"And just what was so important that Obi-Wan couldn't come himself?" she demanded shortly.

Jivan studied her with a bewildered look on his face.

"He's with the Council," he explained softly.

Bant's salmon colored skin flushed a darker shade as Anakin sent her a warning glare,before reaching up to ruffle the ebony spiked hair.His blue eyes held a deep affection as he winked at the boy.

"Well he couldn't have sent a better stand in!" he assured his young friend.

Seeing the adoration that gleamed in Jivan's cerulean eyes, Bant sighed happily.

"I'm going to get you something to take with you just in case you decide you need it.You can get dressed," she instructed him.

Once she left the room, Jivan watched in silence for a time as Anakin stood and began to dress.

"Ani," he said softly.

As he finished tucking in his undershirt, Anakin lifted his head to find Jivan staring at him with tear filled eyes.

"What's the matter runt?" he asked with concern.

A single tear trembled on the tips of long sooty lashes before falling and streaking down a soft brown cheek.Brushing it away in frustration, Jivan struggled to be strong for his friend.

"I'm sorry about Tru.I didn't know him very well,but he was always nice to me the few times we spoke," Jivan told him.

Anakin drew in a deep breath as he pulled the boy close, enfolding him in a pair of strong arms.

"Thanks runt.It helps having you and Master Obi-Wan around," he admitted.

Eventually they both pulled back and exchanged a tender smile, before falling into a discussion about Jivan's training.

 

That was a lovely little interlude. Why do I feel that I should start to worry about Jivan? Hummmm.....

CHAPTER SEVEN


Obi-Wan bowed before facing the Council with a serene expression that was actually far from how he felt under the smooth veneer. He was in actuality eager to learn what they had found out about Tru?s death. It wasn?t difficult for him to imagine the effect this traumatic event would have on Anakin.

Tru had been Anakin?s only real friend ever since he had come to the Temple when he was ten. While the other children had treated the late arrival with various degrees of distrust, awe and unease, Tru had accepted Anakin without reservation or any preconceived ideas of him.

That combined with the fact that Anakin had been present when it happened, yet unable to prevent it, would haunt the young man for some time. Obi-Wan worried privately that his former apprentice would make finding and dealing with the people responsible for Tru?s death a personal mission.

His attention was brought back to the present as Mace began to speak.

"Knight Veld had been tracking and investigating a new crime lord called Shinoda. The man has gained considerable power and wealth mainly in drug and weapons smuggling. Only recently we learned that initiates who were traveling to Agri-Corps have been vanishing without a trace. Tru stumbled onto evidence linking this Shinoda to their disappearances. We believe he is selling them as slave labor to wealthy clients," he explained.

Obi-Wan found it difficult to maintain a calm expression at what he had just learned. Having been shipped off to Agri-Corps himself when he was thirteen, he found it easy to imagine how terrified the initiates must have been.

As if sensing his thoughts, Master Yoda gave him a sympathetic smile.

"Stopped this crime lord must. Delayed the next transport we have. Send you and your apprentice as added security we will," he explained.

Mace leaned forward, a serious look on his face.

"This mission could quickly become dangerous Obi-Wan. We wanted to be sure you feel your new padawan is ready for such a high risk outing," he informed the young master.

They waited in patient silence as Obi-Wan bent his head and mulled over all he had been told. Finally he faced them once again, his face smoothed into serene lines.

"I?m confident that Jivan can handle himself Masters. Although young and newly chosen, he is mature and skilled beyond his years," he assured them.

Nodding in acceptance, Mace continued.

"We have also decided to send another knight undercover into Shinoda?s organization. Our sources tell us that he is currently searching for a new bodyguard. Our agent would have to get the job so that they can be on the inside and close to him. Our hope is that this will enable us to gather the evidence we need to bring down his organization."

Obi-Wan?s brow furrowed in thought.

"That is a risky move. You?d need someone highly skilled to pull it off," he mused.

Yoda and Mace shared a lingering glance before responding.

"We have decided this will be an excellent opportunity for Anakin," Mace said quietly.

Obi-Wan?s eyes widened in disbelief as he took a hurried step forward.

"You can?t be serious! He just lost his best friend to this crime lord and will most likely be looking for a chance to settle the score. I don?t think it would be wise to place him in that position!" he exclaimed.

Yoda leaned forward on his cane.

"Believe I do that important it is for the Chosen One to accept this test. Strong he must be for what awaits him in the years to come," he stated firmly.

Frustration burned in Obi-Wan?s eyes at his words.

"Master Yoda, Anakin is hurting deeply right now. I am concerned about his ability t

 

Well, I suddenly realised that you weren't just TALKING about writing an Anakin fic, and you already started it! So, here I am!

Love the start you've made, even if it was sad for poor Ani...

I still can't belive that you've made me this simpathetic towards Ani. Normally I hate him. It all your fault! **grins**

 

No matter what fic it is, I still hate the Council!! What are they thinking, sending Anakin into a situation of confronting his friend's killer and also one who is sending force sensitives into slavery?

Ohhh, not good, not good.

So, the Council is sending Obi-Wan and Jivan as added security on the ship carrying Agri Corps kids, while Anakin is going to be posing as the bad guy's new bodyguard?

Why do I have a bad feeling about this?

 

You know, I know the council is supposed to know what they're doing and all, but I don't know if this plan is a very good idea....

I mean, Obi's points were way too valid to disregard...

Add to that the fact that if (and when) Anakin finds out he's been lied to, he is going to be very upset, indeed...

And feel very betrayed, indeed....



Can't wait to see where this goes!

 

This mission is going to be a hard one for Anakin, and when he learns of Obi-Wan and Ji's part in it, I don't think he'll be too happy having been kept in the dark about it.

I guess that means that Ji will end up as the 'Jedi Slave' for Lilith, huh? Not good!

If Ji ends up in that position, Anakin isn't gonna react to kindly to having his 'little' brother as a slave to the people who killed his best friend.

Can't wait for more!

Somehow I missed a post! ?

I liked the interaction between Anakin and Jivan in the previous post. Your Anakin makes a very nice big brother for the little Xanitot.

The Council in this series of stories you have written is most maddening. They are consistently doing things with Obi-Wan's padawans against his wishes and things usually turn out just the way Obi-Wan predicts they will. All the players will be there and I have a bad feeling that Jivan will be in danger before all is said and done.
