George accepted a few set invites, which was gracious. He's also quite friendly with Filoni. This is also a pride thing, but as I said, George was so displeased by what Abrams how does he try to move on from there. Also, he's elderly and hasn't been seen in public for nearly a year, he's retired. Maybe, hopefully, we see him at a Dial of Destiny red carpet along with Steven. Running a franchise is a lot like being in high military command. When you disagree that much with civilian leadership, you resign. You call it a career and you go home. That's what George did, his ideas were tossed, he felt lied to, you don't come back from that.

Hey!!! As a great fan of Clone Wars and Rebels, I can say that George's ideas were very central to those shows. Filoni and his writers did the heavy lifting. If Dave's stories in live action have fallen flat, that certainly isn't Lucas' fault.

We can’t know what is in Lucas’ mind, but I think he’s moved on. He attended Solo premier (he also attended the TFA premier, but apparently people had to strong arm him into it), the Galaxy’s Edge opening and he’s been to a fair few of the sets at this point. It’s probably still a sore spot for him, but it probably is that if he worked on projects again may open up old wounds. I very much doubt they don’t want to invite him back - he’s fine supporting the franchise and the creators, but he doesn’t want to be involved with the creative side anymore - he’s already made a clean break.

Lucas is gonna be in his 80s when these movies come out.

If they want or need his help and he wants to then sure. Whatever. Otherwise let the guy enjoy his life. But I doubt he’ll be involved much more than a set day visit here and there, or the occasional “let me tell you about the whills” story.

I just think if you are going to attempt to tell a story about the origins of the force/jedi it would make sense to consult the person who created it regardless of how old he is. Wild idea I know.

They should definitely consult Lucas about the Jedi origins. But, I doubt it would be anything they would want to use. A lot of people don't like George's lore. He'd use the "M" word, and that would scare them off.

They didn't want to use it for the ST, and they probably wouldn't want to use it for this film either.

Yes, George needs to come back at once. The man is truly dedicated, as he once went to the Playboy mansion to save future films; I mean, you talk about making the ultimate sacrifice for films. George showed us all of his love.

George even canceled Carrie Fisher to go to Hugh's mansion, which she was clearly unhappy about. She seems to doubt his story of why he went to the Playboy mansion.

But it's like ol' George says- "It's not about those women." He was only trying to save motion pictures- what a hero!

Since Rian Johnson is too busy with the Knives Out franchise, he should hand off his ideas for his Star Wars trilogy to George.

Just imagine a trilogy, exec produced by Kathleen Kennedy, with scripts written by George Lucas, based on story concepts and characters from Rian Johnson.

If no info is given on which ideas originated with Rian and which with George, huge segments of fandom would meltdown from the sheer cognitive dissonance of not knowing which aspects of the films are safe to love/hate/vociferously defend/maliciously malign, etcetera. [face_devil]

Sort of related. I remember reading that GL wanted Maul to be the main baddie of the sequels until Disney took over. I wonder if any of those ideas will recycle into the new Rey movies, but with Dathmorians rather than Maul. With the Nightsisters playing a prominent role in the Thrawn/Ahsoka stories, I can see this happening. Remember, Fett was such a popular cult figure in SW and we had Jango Fett in AOTC and later Mandalorian. Maul has that same cult like following. So, hmmm.......

If we’re willing to accept a Star Wars film shot entirety in a food court, then sure, give George another go.

I think a creator should always be involved, but if they've given up creative say then only as an advisor and reference point for knowledge.

Lucas is around, he's never said he wouldn't be. He certainly talks to Filoni, and he's been friends with KK for decades.

Would it be nice to have George back? Absolutely. But it's just a pipe dream. George would want to do his own thing and not have to be tied down by the decisions others made in the post ROTJ story that he didn't agree with.

I guess you could say he could always do something pre-Phantom Menace (a Darth Bane trilogy perhaps?), but my gut is saying that he's enjoying retirement too much to even consider that.

There’s a picture from several years ago of George sitting in a mall food court eating Chinese food. There now you’re caught up. :p

You describe it as though he is not finding the greatest joy of his life eating Master Wok General Tso's Chicken.

Ah okay. So Master Wok and General Pso are the name of the two Jedi in the next movie. Sent by Rey to an LA area mall for "peaceful negotiations".

I find it interesting that George has a newspaper with him. Do you know who also uses newspapers? That's right. Spies. They utilize newspapers as an implement of nonchalance during their espionage activities. It's as if he's been caught on his lunch break with his cover down. I have a strong hunch this is our reliable leaker.

I love how that guy's video has gone viral for something completely unrelated to him or what he was talking about.
