Fanclub X-wing Series Fan Club: Home of the Dancing Gamorrean

I had a great day today. There's a local airplane club that had an airplane donated to it, and they needed it taken apart. (The donor didn't want it flying due to liability concerns, so they gave it away under the agreement that it be disassembled and stripped for parts.) So, half a dozen of us got together and took it to pieces. It's been years since I've had a chance to work on a plane, and I've never had my hands on a little two-seat kit-built job, but I figured it out and had a lot of fun getting into it and learning how it was built.

I also talked to them about doctors who can do my flight physical and get me legal to fly again. I should be able to make an appointment to get that done, and as long as my blood pressure doesn't read too high, I think I'll be good to go.

So earlier today I went to Goodwill with my mom and you know what I found in the book section? The complete original X-wing series, which I then bought for less than five dollars.

 

An Officer and a Gentleman

One of the flight commanders in Berlin told me one day that he’d been out drinking in a local bar with a few buddies the night before when they were approached by a German man who said, “Excuse me, but you are American servicemen aren’t you?”
They all agreed with nods, to which he added, “And you are officers, no?" Again, they all nodded, adding smiles.
He pointed to the one at the end of the bar and remarked, “You are an Academy grad, correct?”
“Yes, I am,” came the enthusiastic response. “How could you tell? Is it my demeanor and military bearing?”
“That,” said the German, “And I saw your class ring while you were picking your nose.”

 

I went to replace them a few years ago, and it cost more than that per book! Great find!
