Or to record it. Thankfully, commercial breaks were reliable enough to allow you to plan for flipping/changing tapes. Which is about the only thing I was thankful to commercial breaks for :p

When you turn on the NASCAR race today, and see kids younger then you who have "retired" from the sport, racing around in motorized, wheeled recliners...and you think "That looks like it could be fun" and "That looks stupidly dangerous" at the same time.

Then you take a nap and miss the start of the race.

A lady goes to the bar on a cruise ship and orders a Scotch with two drops of water.
As the bartender gives her the drink she says, “I’m on this cruise to celebrate my 80th birthday and it’s today…”
The bartender says, “Well, since it’s your birthday, I’ll buy you a drink. In fact, this one is on me.”
As the woman finishes her drink, the woman to her right says, “I would like to buy you a drink, too.”
The old woman says, “Thank you. Bartender, I want a Scotch with two drops of water.”
    “Coming up,” says the bartender.
As she finishes that drink, the man to her left says, “I would like to buy you one, too.”
The old woman says, “Thank you. Bartender, I want another Scotch with two drops of water.”
“Coming right up,” the bartender says.
As he gives her the drink, he says, “Ma’am, I’m dying of curiosity, why the Scotch with only two drops of water?”
The old woman replies, “Sonny, when you’re my age, you’ve learned how to hold your liquor. Holding your water, however, is a whole other issue.”

It could have been worse, Earl could have asked how much she made out of the divorce.

How do you think I feel when I remember watching this when it was first aired?

You know, I remember over 20 years ago thinking SNL was going through a rough patch...but that it had peaks and valleys before and it would be great again someday.

That was over 20 years ago.

    Still waiting.

I, to do this day, enjoy SNL. Maybe because I started watching it when I was 11. I babysat for my neighbors when I was 11 and I sat on their couch and watched SNL and I couldn't believe that raunchy stuff was on TV. LOL to 1989. I haven't watched it every year, or every episode, but now that you don't have to stay up or record it and you can just watch the bits and pieces you want, I watch at least part of almost every episode. I think the current cast is pretty good.

My first SNL was sleeping over a friend's house, maybe...1990...1991. Quite the cast back then. We ordered pizza, and drank Mountain Dew all night (also my first), and watched SNL. I had heard about it, but never actually saw it. I thought I suddenly saw adulthood in sight.

I've always looked quite young for my age. Got carded well into my 30s. But for about 5-10 years nothing. Last fall, some waiter, with white speckled hair (!!!) carded me, took my license, and went "Oh ****, you're older than I am". And then laughed.

ah, SNL memory lane...I remember how big a deal it seemed like when I first started watching it in the early 80s. Had that same "this is so grownup" feeling too lol.

One of my fave skits from that era:
