JCC You know you feel old when...

When you can never again make a "the answer is 42" reference on your 42nd birthday

 

Then I'm not yet old.

 

I frequently used the “I’m 37, I’m not old” line from Monty Python during the entirety of my 37th year. Luckily, my wife turns 37 tomorrow so now it’s her turn. Meanwhile, I’m stuck here at boring 40. I don’t get to be a cool age for two whole years.

 

Im the same age my mother was when she had me.

My whole life i considered my parents having me at way too old an age and I said if I ever had any it would be significantly younger.

I have no kids.

I can however afford a Lego Millennium Falcon so….win some lose some.

 

I don't "feel old" in the sense of feeling bad about my age, but.... every now and again we go to this restaurant in the town where I went to college. So, naturally, we see the college "kids" while we're there, doing whatever. And yeah, it's a stark reminder that they were ME, many many many many moons ago, and how young they look now, etc. Wow. LOL

 

So many people that I've met in the past few years, since the pandemic began at least, think I'm already in my 40's.

I can't even remember 31.

 

31? I'll be 41 on Saturday.

@Shadow-Jedi That sounds very similar to my situation. There is a local town pub that is a institution to hang out when you are college age/young that is honestly gotten to the point it's generational. My friends and I would hang out there regularly whenever we were home for college and our early years after we graduated. There was always these "old people" that would be there which gave us at times and particularly our college girlfriends and eventually our wives the creep. Like "what is this old fart doing here trying to hang on to their youth?" Now though some of my cousins are investors in the pub (it wound up moving into a much bigger location) therefore for obvious reasons they sometimes have family events there including when another cousin of ours (I am from a big extended family on both sides) plays with his band as they are like a local cover band that at this point are legends due to how popular they have stayed for the past almost 30 years now. So whenever we go to an family event there (which there will be in March as my cousins want to have a family reunion since we all haven't been together since COVID hit) I am feel like the old fart in the corner as young people look at me going "what are you doing here?". In many ways it is great getting older (watching my kids grow up is the biggest honor of my life!) but in other ways? It STINKS!

 

You know you feel old when people much younger than you complain about how old they are.

 

A friend brought a copy of the student newspaper from my old university into work (his partner works at the uni and he thought I might like to read it). It was filled to the brim with youthful discontent and idealism. I couldn’t relate to any of it.

Re-watching game 7 of the '03 ALCS on the MLB Network the other day, and I'm thinking to myself, "****, it's going to be 20-goddamn years in October since that, and I still remember vividly watching it!" 20-years?!

 

This year (July) is the 50th year after Bruce Lee's death.

 

This year is the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park, a movie I grew up watching... On Laser Disc.

 

For some time, my approach to this was to say to myself "Hey, at least I am still capable of handling it pretty well". Which kinda works. Although more and more lately a (demonic?) little voice is replying "But for how much longer?". That cheeky @#$#@$@.

 

When you go down memory lane watching old music videos, and remembering putting the songs on your first iPod was 19 years ago...

 

When you realize it's 4/20 after 4:20.

 

I realized I was watching R rated movies in theaters 42 years ago.
