...possible developments in canon make you want to retreat into your AU and stay there forever.
^Just remember... the New Canon is just fanfiction with money.
Despite some turds, Expanded Universe forever!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, the developments that make me want to live in my AU are occurring in Officially Official LucasFilm productions, so fanfic with money, special effects, big name actors and an audience who will flame you if you criticize it.
When it's your last day off before Christmas and you just want to finish and edit your Christmas fic but new plot bunnies keep popping up for it:

...when you are camped out a thesaurus page because you realize you use of the same words frequently.
I highly recommend "The Complete Idiot's Guide to a Smart Vocabulary" which has new words for pretty much anything, all categorized nicely for any writing struggle and is a good supplement in addition to a thesaurus.
When you watch A Goofy Movie and now you're picturing a fic scenario in which Luke was raised by Jar Jar.
......you start researching memes or other things or stories online related to "what if Luke was raised by Jar Jar?"
....when on your first draft your dear diary challenge has your story pretty dark and filled with drama, but then you just can´t bring yourself to write the characters as jerks who cause each other needless suffering and thus quickly move the story in a more positive, friendly direction.
You have limited time/energy/will to live and a huge backlog of:
Fics you want to read and comment on
Replies to comments on your own fics
Fics you want to write
A. Read and comment
B. Reply to comments
D. Watch old episodes of The Simpsons that you've already seen a hundred times and have basically memorized!
E. Get new plot bunnies from random lines in the show and start the cycle again.
....you realize you’re not in that much of a hurry for the canon version of what happens to your favorite character because you want to hold onto your version as long as possible (specifically, I realized that with all the talk of LIVE ACTION REBELS, whatever Sabine and Ezra’s reunion looks like, it won’t be this
I reject canon's "reality" and substitute my own!!
What a lovely drawing! And I agree with that sentiment.
@brodiew Thank you
...when you feel sad that people don't like your unique, if not weird, fanfic, but still write it anyway.
...you start writing a story and step back for a moment and realize it will really only make sense if it has cats wearing tiny pirate hats and travel in tuna-shaped spaceships.
When your passwords get compromised, and even though you haven't written anything in years you still logged into your fanfiction accounts to update their passwords.
When you've decided on your first High Republic 'ship after only a 108 pages of Light of the Jedi.
When you are dying to write something for that ship but even the source material is sparse.
The beauty of fanfic...you can make it all up and if it turns out to be way off base, just call it an AU (and I'm curious to know who you're shipping...)
When your Google search history is filled with questions about how pregnancy tests work and how accurate they are, and there is no chance you are pregnant, but your character is. So you need to know these things.
...and you thank the search engine powers that be for private search, because you do NOT want your husband seeing this history
When you are browsing the baby name websites because you want to give your new OC a cool name that means something.
...yeah, try planning a murder mystery!!!
