Gotta go with The Land Before Time. Just beautiful.

I would have to say The Mask of Zorro, just because I thought it was so innovative. It was not a bunch of musical Ideas that had been used over and over again.

Apollo 13 now there is a score that needs a better CD release.

I thought the Glory score was about a subtle as a brick to the face. Too over the top and manipulative for me.

I disagree with that. There are numerous reuses of themes, notably the 4-note danger motif from every other score Horner's ever done and the echoing 2-note theme from Aliens. I enjoy The Mask of Zorro for the most part, but its album is over long and the main theme is repeated too often without enough variation to remain interesting.

FETT: yeah..Krull is good stuff. It was relatively early in his career..you know..before he started re-hashing his own stuff. He is not one of my favorites, but it's a good score.

I forgot "Mask of Zorro" on my list.

Strilo: absolutely...Apollo 13 needs a better release. Lot of good music in there that wasn't heard...could've done without some of the "songs of the time" also.

There's a good promo of Apollo 13 out there with more of the score, no quotes, and no period songs. It's very good. Best track on the album is by far The Launch.

I have to go with Braveheart as my favorite. That main theme is wonderful.

Other favorites include Willow, The Mask of Zorro and Titanic.

I can't really get into Titanic. It's filled with material that Horner used to better effect in Braveheart, Legends of the Fall, and Apollo 13. Plus, the synthesized choral work sounds dreadful.

And then of course, the kiss of death... Celine Dion.

Yes, without hesitation, I also say GLORY is my all-time favorite James Horner score, and also one of my all-time favorites in general.

My favorite track is Closing Credits, but I enjoy every track. The score is both rousing and melancholy. No matter how joyous a track may be, there's always that underlying sadness. Great stuff. It was the first Horner score I heard, and still the best among his works.
The movie's great, too. Forget Last Samurai, see Glory. Glory's the movie that Last Samurai only hopes to be (same director....)
