    I was just reading about GRRM and in 2005, Lev Grossman (of Time) called Martin "the American Tolkien". I wonder how he feels about him now, 14 years later with only one book released. I guess HBO is to blame since HBO didn't exist to bother Tolkien during the 12 years it took him to write the LotR trilogy.

    Maybe there are a lot of desert planets not because of nature but because these advanced civilizations tend to cause desertification e.g., by stripping away all valuable natural resources, releasing greenhouse gasses.

    There, I justified the filmmakers' laziness.
