(it's not really a new related to TOR, hence the position here) World of Warcrafft nabbed Stackpole for the next WoW book. (If you wonder, I'm in the old grumpy school that consider Alliston, Zahn and Stackpole the best SW authors)
How is that a humiliation? Stackpole can write for more then just starwars. Besides by that logic didnt starwars humiliate warcraft by "stealing" C. Golden, one of their only hand full of writers?
The issue is that Stackpole (IMO, the second best SW author) was convinced to work for Blizzard. As WoW never have been heavy on lore and story, while SW TOR insisted heavily on them, it's pretty funny to see WoW secure such a name.
I might have expressed myself poorly. WoW lore and story are not exactly put on the forefront in the games is what I meant. (There are lore and story in WoW-the outrage over the destruction of Theramore show that people care a hell lot for a forgotten level 32 quest hub, a hell lot more than they care about iconic Alderaan)
It's just that a lot of the Warcraft lore goes back to the original Warcraft games. Even though a lot of people who have only played WoW might not know a lot of lore, Blizzard has done a good job of fleshing out its world. I mean, it's definitely not Star Wars in terms of depth, but that's ok. But on topic, I don't believe I've ever read a Stackpole SW novel, especially since I didn't read any of the NJO. Just because he's going to write books for Blizzard doesn't necessarily mean it's a terrible thing for SW.
Princss, you should read the X-Wing series and comics, those books are excellent (if a bit Corran-centric)
No such thing as Corran centric. Also lol @ saying one hasn't read Stackpole because you skipped the NJO. He isn't known as a SW author for that contribution. Erm...WDNDSWITJCC. Edit: mobile typing is bad sometimes so I clarified. (mobile sock of s65horsey)
The NJO was just the only series that came to mind that I know Stackpole has written at least some of. I'm fully aware that he's written many other SW novels; it's just I couldn't think of any off the top of my head.
The coolest thing about this thread is that the OP uses the word 'news' in singular. I've never seen anyone do that in English.
Yeah, this. Even claiming that WoW didn't put the Lore at the forefront... were you too busy ganking sub-L10 newbies to notice? I for one often killed L56 Horde trying to desecrate Uther's tomb in the Plaguelands. Filthy Horde.
SW got a lot of amazing writers and the novels are a lot better than WOW's. I bought most of both SW and WOW novels.
Good grief, Stackpole has also wrote numerous BattleTech novels, so this isn't really surprising. The only thing that is surprising is Del Rey hasn't brought Stackpole back after the Dark Tide Duology from the NJO. Stackpole wrote all of his Star Wars novels from 1996 to 2000. I also believe Zahn, Stackpole, and Allston are some of the very best Star Wars authors, I would also include Luceno and Stover. I believe Del Rey should bring Stackpole back as much as the next person, but that doesn't mean I have ill will toward any of them doing something else, I love Zahn's Conquerors' Trilogy set in his own original universe.
