Well, I'll chat to all you guys later.

The movie is in safe hands with JJ Abrams and there won't be anything to discuss until after the movie is released because Abrams will is the master of secrecy. Thank goodness we have a filmmaker who believes the audience should get value for money by not know knowing a movie inside out before seeing it.

Maybe, the haters will grow up and the obsession with lens flares dissipate by 2015.

No uploading the score to Youtube - that is wrong and it can be downloaded - so it is stealing.

    Laters.

I liked LOST (although he wasn't as involved as some think, especially later on) and Super 8, but I just don't like the idea of J.J. Abrams being perceived in the general public as a savior of a failed STAR WARS, and doing so with both that and Star Trek (and Mission: Impossible). It looks like this is expected to be modernized in the way Star Trek was, ironically turning it into a sort of sexy, modern wit-using, ultra-adernalized Star Wars. I know he's a fan and knows how to throw in references to other stuff within the franchise, but this makes me wonder more if these sequels are being conceived in more of a reboot fashion. I hoped for someone for whom there wouldn't have been many preconceived notions and established ego. Ah whatever.

I got home at 3 AM after working for 9 hours. I just missed out on all the action when I left for work. Damn you, Work! screwing me again! LOL

Now spent the last 3 1/2 hours reading this freaking thread in order to catch up, just in time to go to bed in time to miss the LFL (I'm heavily suspecting) confirmation of this news.

From everything I've read this is confirmed 100%, book em Dano, done deal!

    I'm good with it.

YES! HF always likes to know who the Director is before deciding, I mean most big actors do. I hope Disney/LFL confirms this today with a little appendix that says [roughly], "Oh, by the way, the Big 3 have signed on to reprise their roles."

    :p[face_laugh]

    Is that asking too much???

Star Trek was 1000x better than any of the turd GL served up in the PT, but aside from that I'm not that crazy about Abram's work. but if he could turn Trek into an exciting, rebooted franchise with clear quality direction and acting, I think he can do really well with Ep VII

That's the thing, fans of something can criticize it all day long, like us about the Prequels, but we don't want to see outsiders bash it.

Well, one thing HAS been confirmed -- LFL never gave us any news because they clearly didn't have any. We thought they were holding out on us, but the Abrams deal is just now getting close to finalization.

Still a little shocked its NOT Matt Vaughn.

I don't mind if anyone bashes the PT. All 3 films were terrible.

Why do you have to bash anything? and what does PT have to do with who is directing ep7?

Mmmm boy, I go to sleep for a little while and wake up to a hell of a lot of "My taste is better than yours!" posts.

You all know that taste in a work of art, including who directs it, is just that--a matter of taste?

You (general "you") love Abrams? Awesome. You aren't "wrong," neither are those of us who aren't thrilled about this.

And we really can't know at this point if the movie is "good." I hope it will be.

Abrams worked with Harrison Ford in Regarding Henry. He wrote the screenplay and can be seen cameoing delivering a pizza. Also Abrams produced Morning Glory. I think there's a good chance that if Ford is willing to return, Abrams can lure him back more easiley than Matthew Vaughn.

Jumping in a little late on this one, but I have to say I'm as pleased with this choice just as much as any of the other names floating around out there. It's not like JJ will be making "Lost" in a Star Wars universe, and I also expect Trek and E7 to feel like two very different animals, because they are. In fact, I have full confidence that JJ knows exactly what "responsibility" he has towards both franchises.

At the end of the day, he has proven himself as a very intelligent and capable director with a lot of talent.

Let's see what he can do. :)

One, I have an opinion, as do you.

And the PT related to my comments in two ways. One, Abrams' biggest sci-fi work to date is obviously Star Trek. So in order to assess the decision to hire him, I compared that film to the PT. I think this is a fair measure of Abrams' potential. Star Trek was far better in every measurable way than the PT which makes me very optimistic for Ep VII.

The other way it relates is the ability of a director disentangle the narrative mess Luca$ made of the SW mythos in the PT (i.e., midichlorians, balance to the force etc). And again, I think Abrams is up to the task because he did not let the Star Trek tv show mythos limit him.

Agreed. Not to mention that he's an SW fan and not a Trekkie. Although his endorsement of the PT is a little disturbing (obviously being handed the keys to the franchise ensures he will never say a bad word about the films - even that two headed abomination at Little Orphan Ani's pod race).

That's an opinion. Not fact. Imo EP2 has some good parts. EP3 has a few of my favorite scenes out of all 6 movies.

Imo the new Star Trek was in part better than TPM in most aspects.

Now. Some of you may not care about Lense Flares. Yes, Star Wars has a few, but not like JJ used them, and imo he uses too many of them. They are distracting. I wouldn't care if he used one or two even, but not one every 10 min. Not when it distracts from and blinds out whats going on like he has done quite a few times. Abrams even admitted HIMSELF that he did too many in Star Trek to the point of being "ridiculous" (his words). Let's hope he does this justice. If it were Micheal Bay directing it I would write it off and honestly NOT go see it in the theater. That guy has spit on modern cinema and utterly RUINED Transformers. He should go back to directing playboy video's. No, the fact that people flock to see his "movies" doesn't mean they are quality. No, money doesn't mean quality. Bright lights attract moths. They go to the light and die because they are mesmerized by stupidity. JJ at least has some vision, knows how to add the story to the picture, and has made a few movies/TV shows I actually enjoy, including Star Trek and Lost. He knows what he is doing. He is also a Star Wars fan!! JJ is by far 10 million times better than any wanna be Micheal Bay. Bay just got lucky, that's ALL. If Bay did it you would have Star Wars characters making immature jokes or comedic relief every 30 seconds, Jedi Council members using Ebonics slurs saying things like "My Bad", or, a half naked Jedi female lead who can't act. That's not Star Wars folks.

In all honesty. Id have picked Alex Proyas or Jean-Pierre Jeunet

"an individual with knowledge of the production"

    Yeah, sounds official to me...

Sure it would be cool if so. He seems a capable director, but with all the hype that's going to be built up around this movie (and already has been), I'll wait for the press release.

Star Trek was a fine movie and done in a way I felt the PT film should have been.

I would be happy for Abrams to direct at least one of the new ST movies, IF he is selected (seriously people, this is rumour still)

I recall seeing Matthew Vaughn's name all over the place too.

Of course, Arndt's name was thrown around so much that Lucasfilm had to come out and confirm so they may do that now with Abrams

JJ was my top pick and I couldn't be happier.

What I want now is basically an College Football Decision Press Interview where JJ puts on the SW hat sitting next to KK, then they whistle and the Big 3 walk out and are all like, yeah we are here. We are ready to play...

Jaws would drop, it would be fan service and no one expects 2 huge scoops in 1 announcement this early
