I'm not really in favor of remaking beloved films from my youth... and even though certain ones have been rather disheartening (Karate Kid, I'm looking in your direction), but this looks kinda promising.
Watch again and pause at 0:30. The visor and full facemask bear a striking resemblance to a Cylon Centurion.
Somebody made and interesting comment on silver vs black. They said based on what they saw in the trailer that he starts out silver goes black, but then goes silver again when he regains control. Remind you of another cyborg we all know
SLJ and Michael Keaton get passes. Effects are top notch. No complaints there. (I'm guessing SLJ is this movie's incarnation of "The Old Man", eh?) And nice having the old RoboCop as a cameo/prototype design. But what the hell did they do to RoboCop? The entire point of the character was that he was supposed to have LOST his humanity, none of this "Hey I have a GI Joe Iron Man Suit!" The fact that they let him pull his helmet off and have a nice, unscarred face to reinforce that he's still human. NO. NO NO NO NO NOOOO. And also....Car bomb? LAME. It's not going to have the same visceral emotional impact that watching Murphy getting tortured by Boddicker and his gang. All in all, this is going to be just another lame summer action movie. RoboCop was a product of the Paul Verhoeven's cynicism over the 1980s culture....this movie seems to represent everything Verhoeven was criticizing.
