Yeah, I figured as much. I did Taris with my SI and there were a lot of Sith, but that is after the outbreak of the Galactic War. But even during KOTOR, the Jedi Civil War is going on. The difference is that the planets you travel to aren't battlegrounds I suppose. But then, neither is Nar Shaddaa -- and for whatever reason Tatooine has become some sort of proxy war between Mos Ila and Anchorhead during the Cold War. I'm going to try a new strategy of maxing out my bonus XP from GS for my Smuggler so it will be at +30%, and use it in conjunction with a 25% boost. I think I'll get that Ewok companion too if it can tank and heal.
I don't quite see...how you're the only jedi knight in the galaxy when you see tons of Jedi NPC's from the start of the game...not just trainers/quest givers but also like guards. Stealth classes always end up underleveled for me so yeah it's a good idea to have the xp boosts running early on. OTOH, my BH is at least par in terms of xp. But at level 22 she's a whole planet behind the smuggler. I keep on wondering what interesting ideas you might get in an expansion...like, I'd love to see a "defection" mechanic in which you switch factions. I'd also like to see slightly more differentiation between factions like how WOW had paladins and shamans be separate... Wouldn't it be cool if you could be discovered as force sensitive -- or you could abandon the order completely and go on your own to become a freelance smuggler? And like, from that mix/match talent trees from different classes? Would be fiendishly complicated to balance, but would be cool. Overall, I like this game. Reminds me a lot of vanilla WOW.
I think the problem is their fourth pillar or whatever of story really precludes factional switching and multiclassing or class switching. The closest you can get is to unlock something like the Sith species and then play as a Jedi with it, and in your head imagine that you started as a Sith. I really wish this game would have another double XP event. Obviously they want to limit those because if you make the carrot easier to achieve people might stop playing. But I feel like I've hit a lull. Not really a fan of Balmorra or Taris, but I'm basically forced to either do at least some of their side quests, or spend a lot of time queued up for galactic starfighter otherwise doing nothing. And you can't queue for warzone PVP and galactic starfighter at the same time. I've already gotten one from the final questline for Act 1 Smuggler, and I want to get a matching one for my Gunslinger. Unfortunately, it looks like I gotta pay 400 cartel coins for one in the market (R-30017 Aikion Blaster). Boo!!!11one The other cartel market gun (TM-59 Blaster Pistol) looks kinda like the LAPD 2019 Blaster from Blade Runner, anyone know what the achievable in-game gun with that aesthetic is?
Have you tried the Galactic Trade Network? Basically in game auction house, with a lot of cartel market stuff on it. Problem is that the better or rarer stuff is more expensive. Yeah, double XP weekends are the best, sadly they're still quite rare, so it'll probably be another three months at least until the next one. Taris/Balmorra are where the grind get really annoying. Not much way to avoid it short of doing more group stuff, PVP, etc.
I've been using GS for the grind but the queue is sporadic so I do side quests in the mean time. I didn't think to check GTN for that revolver blaster but I will. My weaker and indulgent self wanted to buy both before I realized I got the revolver already, so I'm curious if the other one has a non cartel equivalent.
I had pre-ordered the game and played from open-beta until the March after release. I just re-subbed and have been playing almost exclusively 'pub. Haven't stuck to leveling one character as I've been trying to get a feel for the game again. I had a Sith Assassin before. Are any of you players on Harbinger?
Revanfan1 and I are on The Ebon Hawk. I might have some characters on Harbinger, maybe even a level 33 JK, because I briefly played on a west coast server (Harbinger is WC right?) because I am on the WC and some people I knew were. Edit: BTW, I think I never mentioned this, but I've been looking for inspiration, nods, and homages to the Dark Forces series in SWTOR. Once I get around to Mysteries of the Sith, they will probably jump with Dromund Kaas, as I think the Dark Temple is supposed to be the Dark Force Temple of the Prophets of the Dark Side where Kyle Katarn is possessed the same as all the hapless Sith workers, troopers, and acolytes. But I've noticed that using the commendation voucher or whatever it's called that you get from the Galactic Starfighter daily and weekly results in the same sound effect as activating a Force power in Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith.
It does; I have it on my Mercenary. The non-CM version of it is a Bounty Hunter-only weapon and I believe you get it at some point in your class quest, the same way the smuggler gets that revolver at the end of Act 1.
Well, then my BH must have it. Unfortunately, SWTOR doesn't want to let me log in right now, and I don't know if it's my connection or the servers are down.
Yeah, I think you definitely get it in a class quest, I just cannot remember where. All I know is I have had it for a long, long time (then again, my BH was at 50 in November 2012, so anything I have on him I've had for a long, long time).
It's the Manhunter's Blaster and it looks like you get it when you pick your AC. And then I got DCed.
The Aikion is selling for ~1,000,000 credits on GTN. NO THANKS. =( Also SWTOR and EA was under a DDOS attack but it's been fixed I guess.
So I just logged on to my Jedi Defender and I headed to Ilum. And damn. It is the most depressing planet I've been to yet. It's not the planet. It's a beautiful planet, lots of great scenery. But... My character feels so alone there. Like, I literally feel like a cog in an impersonal war machine right now. You see, I supposedly won. I defeated the evil. Yet, I'm still on the battlefield. And I'm basically doing grunt work for some anonymous commander even though I'm the hero who defeated the great evil. I guess this is why...DLC's never seem to bring me much enjoyment, because it's like revisiting a character after the conclusion of his main arc.
They are usually right before a digital expansion (March to Makeb) and before Galactic Starfighter was opened to subs. So Thats when we'll probably get another
Yeah, after the class story is over, everything is so... generic. Well, a lot of Bioware's writing has been like that and most of the class stories don't have that much obvious impact, but the lack of custom responses makes it a lot more boring. Sadly that's probably what all future content will be like. And sometimes they do double XP for the heck of it. I think they did it last July too? Probably to fill non-event months, though they might overlap too. I think I remember a Gree event and double XP at the same time, though not entirely sure. Though after last Thanksgiving it probably won't be fora while again. Especially with the hints that the Rakghoul event will be making a comeback.
Okay, so I managed to grind out 2 levels in the meanwhile... finishing the storylines on Corellia and Voss, which I hadn't done. and back on Ilum, there was a mention that the Republic and the Empire seem to have gone back to war, and the Empire lost, decisively. Seems like a pretty brief war.
Well, the war actually begins earlier than Ilum. For many classes, it begins around the end of Chapter 2, the beginning of Chapter 3 for others, and even a couple that start Chapter 2 in the midst of the war (albeit, not all classes see the war's catalyst themselves). It can definitely be a little confusing, as a couple of classes simply begin to hear from Republic and Imperial officials that they are at war again instead of actually instigating the conflict as others do. As to the Empire's rout—I suppose it would be safe to say that the Invasion of Corellia and the subsequent battle that you partake in across all classes on the planet had considerable stake to the Sith, and the outcome had a large impact on the war as a whole.
Yeah, the war isn't over, the Empire just got beaten at Corellia and I guess Ilum? I never really spent much attention to Ilum. I've reached Hoth with both my sorcerer and gunslinger, and I've focused on the latter there so far. My objective is to steal cloaking device technology from a pirate band called the White Maw, so I went undercover to join them, and instigated the death of one lieutenant at the behest of another in order to join -- for which I was promptly knocked out and dropped in a wampa cave. =( My sorcerer is looking for a crashed ship that was carrying Sith relics and artifacts from Yavin 4, because I'm like Darth Nihilus and I HUNGER.
Ilum did see the death of some rather prominent Republic individuals (Kaedan of the Jedi Council being the most considerable), but the Empire, overall, had greater losses due to the betrayal of Malgus. In addition to losing forces to the Republic presence on Ilum, Malgus' betrayal meant a large contingency of soldiers and Sith also joined him, which ultimately meant a lose-lose situation for the Empire that then was forced to fight and destroy its own troops. Marr cites this as a blow to the Empire. I am moving ahead to Alderaan with the Jedi Knight after completing the Warrior, Agent, and Inquisitor (all of which I enjoyed greatly).
