Lol that would be a pretty major departure for a Mando.

Zeb looks cool. He seems to have a cockney accent (from London). It fits his design.

Oh, man, I'm sooo happy it's Steve Blum voicing Zeb. That guy is just going to be great! I'm actually really surprised by how Zeb sounds, because I just made the assumption he would be a "Proud Warrior Race" guy who almost never talks. Instead he seems almost like Wolverine, as some one else mentioned. He fills Chewie's role of "the big guy", but seems very different in personality. Especially since Chewie was just a big softie to all of his friends.

I'm really hoping they write the interaction between Zeb and Ezra well. If it comes off as too cheesy or forced, I would not like that.

(Btw, if they let him say "I'm the best at what I do" one time, I will grin sooo big!)

Is it me or is Rebels bringing an influx of new users to the forums?
I'm excited to see new faces turn up with icons of the Rebels cast.

That's what you've been taught by commercial culture. If that's what you want to believe--that advertisements made by a group of people completely separate from the storytellers actually have any relevance--then I can't stop you. But stories have nothing to do with advertisements, and in fact, they introduce invalid data to any analysis made with the intent of forming an opinion.

Lol, honestly as one of them, I just want to say I never knew about this forum before hand, or I would of been a member. It just happened by luck that I was searching for something Rebels related and stumbled upon this place.

I'm loving this surge of activity. It's great to see so much activity in this forum, after such a loooong lull. Makes my job more engaging, to say the least. ;)

It's a little scary in a "whoa" kinda way that there may now be people posting on this board who never lived in the 20th century. There may even be people posting here who were born after 9/11...

Time waits for none of us.

    Yeah Steve Blum! I guess...

I myself am cautiously optimistic about Rebels. Either way I'm preparing to sit back and enjoy watching something fresh in animation. I came into TCW late and wouldn't have just watched it based on trailers.

Between all the new info on Rebels and the BC its not that surprising traffic in the forum is on the rise again. The faster pace is nice.

    Welcome to SWTV. =)

Steve Blum? Meh. I mean come on, he's everywhere. It's hard for me to get hyped about a voice you hear everywhere...unless it's Tara Strong. Anyway, the clips look really...low quality. I mean, I would think that the CG would be going nowhere but up. And oh Lord, are they cheesy.

And in case you're wondering yes, I've taken it upon myself to be that gnawing pessimism in the back of your mind up until the show actually premieres. I just don't see anything good. Hopefully Greg will give us something though.

Lol, you do release all the clips in that Zeb reveal were unfinished animations right? The no facial movement was a pretty big tell. Unless you're talking about something else.

Ha, I'm not one of those you mention, I first saw Star Wars on VHS tape, so I'm old school. :)

Yes, there is certainly an influx of new users to the forum. I welcome them with open arms. It's an exciting time indeed, what with all the Rebels news and TCW bonus content finally coming to us in March.

    More like this...

To all the new users here, without further ado, remember these pithy words:

These will be fun times indeed! :D

At least, I will always remember this board as LACWAC. I am sure many of us who were active prior to March 28, 2013 (the day the last remnants of LACWAC were swept away, to make room for the New Order SWTV) will remember the name fondly. @};-

Circular Logic where did that pic come from? I believe I was the first to use that pic for a "Welcome to LACWAC" meme but I didn't have the part about trolls.

I first posted that in this thread, welcoming the new mods back in December. So you originated the meme? Well then, kudos for you coming up with it first! [face_peace]

DBB and JAT are tough acts to follow. Thank god its not Kevin Michael Richardson who is everywhere and has absolutely no range. Everyone he voices just blurs together. I tend to find Blum overrated for similar reasons, except the dude does have range its just underutilized. I think I'm going to be pleasantly surprised. I always found the voice acting in TCW for the most part to be super and rarely had an, "Oh its that guy!" moment so I trust Rebels will use the underutilized to give us some great and unique performances.

Yeah... but it's Kevin Michael Richardson. His voice is just that awesome. :p

And it's not like DBB has the greatest range either. Sure, he did a great job voicing dozens of clones, each with a slightly different inflection from the next, but otherwise he's no more versatile than Blum. JAT I agree- he definitely has great range. It'd be a great treat to see him come back to SW for Rebels, even if in a smaller role than Obi-Wan.

I completely disagree. KMR's voice is only awesome as Antauri whom the guy doesn't seem to remember anyways. =b

DBB is a VA that most people have barely heard beyond TCW and American Dad. He's more often a sound effects guy. He did several great backgound voices in TCW that were far away from ether the clones or his natural speaking voice. It just so happened that after a while TCW maxed both him and JAT's range out so some voices were reused or grew closer. Unlikely in say Transformers Prime or Megas XLR for example where every background character performed by Steve Blum is immediately obvious and always sounds the same. Either like Spike, Jamie variation, kid version, or the deeper evil version. I've just never seen much versatility in Blum on screen. During panels, yes, voices including a spot on Homer Simpson then yes. And that's not really his fault either, VAs just don't have to do the variety of voices they used to, these days. There is a reason Jim Cummings blows all of them away. I suspect Rebels will change this. TCW seemed give its OCs unique sounding voices.

Sadly, most VA get type-cast. Take Nolan North. If you've hear his voice you'd probably think that he has no range, and can only do his "Drake" voice. The thing is, he does have range, but isn't allowed to show it. An example would be in Batman Arkham City, where he voices Penguin. Check this out:

I think Blum's voice is very cool, and I like hearing him, but I can see where you're coming from. However, he said in the video this role really let's him stretch his limits. (Hey, as a singer, I've gotta say; if you don't exercise your vocal cords, they will go out of shape very quickly. This will give him a great chance to increase his range, , if it is lacking.)

Edit: And thanks for the welcome to us new members everyone! I might take long periods of absence, but I've been having fun so far!

Oh I know DBB does tons of animal noises. I guess I tend to think those take less effort than regular voices. There was also Tarrlok on Korra, which was more or less his actual voice, too. But yeah, the only voice of Blum's that sounds nothing like him is Leeron from TTGL.

As for VAs these days who are masters at variety, we still have people like Billy West, Hank Azaria, Maurice LaMarche, hell basically most of the VAs from Simpsons and Futurama. Plus video game VAs, like Troy Baker and Nolan North.

But anyway, Rebels' voice cast seems pretty solid so far. Good that they have an actual teen for Ezra, too. Now the really interesting one we still don't know is the Inquisitor.

There are all kinda of VAs out there who get typecast and folk never know what they are capable of. One great example of this is Peter Cullen, most people don't know he can be anyone but Optimus Prime. However he did all kinds of neat unappreciated voice work on the Disney Afternoon shows and on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, probably the most unique of which is Bankjob's musical number in Ducktales. He's been replaced by Jim Cummings twice. Jim Cummings is easy to praise because he can duplicate about anything and he's well known for many unique roles back when VAs and has voiced like 50% of a shows cast on his own.

Actually I think Nolan North is a talented guy from what I've seen of him in animation. I think television animation requires a more dynamic performance than a video game. I've heard him in Young Justice and Transformers Prime where yeah he sounds about the same in both roles but he throws enough of a more chipper, squeaky spin on the later that I think if you just played a few words of audio I could tell you which character was which. That's admirable. But it also helps I'm less familiar with him and he sounds really good in live reads.

The voice Blum is giving Zeb reminds me of Naraku doing an impression of Dingo (or Monterey Jack). I can't decide if he is losing the accent or more like growling when yelling. Its kinda cool and I look forward to seeing it push Tom's limits.

Yes Todd the Jedi and if only we could hear more talent like that in action animation. Well first there actual have to be action cartoons and thankfully Rebels is here to save the day. We'll have more VAs to look forward to. I stand by that TCW raised the bar so Rebels has to follow.

The first time we meet the droids in ANH, they are sent quite far from their master.

And how would them being part of a storyline equal close ties to the Rebellion? All it definitely means is the droids are part of a storyline at some point in the series. Have you seen a Leia or Capt. Antilles figure? No. Just the Droids.

This may belong in another thread but I've been in conversations about how or if Rebels will have any reference to SW Droids. The "How do they run into them without either Leia or Capt. Antilles..." is right up that alley. Filoni and Co. have already paid homage to that series with the "Nomad Droids" arc from TCW.
