I agree with Even about everything up to the signing over of the rights. I think the show is a large reason why he even finished ADWD when he did. And I have to remind him that he'd not even be complaining because he'd have never heard of the series
You'd probably still be bugging me to read it! But I'm not sure I'd rather have this impending trainwreck. There's no way I'll be able to resist watching.
How do we know TWOW or ADOS won't be the train wreck? Judging from the last few books we might be in for more stagnation and no plot movement in Winds for all we know. D and D could be doing us all a favour by making this concise and cutting all the fat.
The adaptation has been adequate so far. However, if R+L=J is true, then the show's adaptation has done the viewers a substantial disservice by not making Jon's parentage more of an issue. Perhaps the showrunners are waiting for confirmation of Jon's parentage but based on the Greenwald interview before last season, GRRM asked them for their theories on the parents, they gave him a prominent theory (obviously R+L=J) and GRRM essentially confirmed it. Anyway, I want an ending for the series too; I just vainly thought the books would provide me the ending before seeing it in such broad strokes.
Maybe the last two books will be bad (doubt it), but those writers? No, I don't trust them to salvage anything.
Overall I agree with you, Even. But let's be honest. You could easily fit Dance into a few episodes if you cut out all the parts where Tyrion was being emo or Dany was pining sexually.
The worst part about ADWD is that he wouldn't shut up about food while I was reading it on an international flight with no food to be had.
Well, I think TV Bran could be the key to quickly filling in the back story needed to catch up show viewers on the important back story points, like R+L=J clues. They are obviously going to have to give him more to do anyway, so getting/relaying weirwood visions could work out, and we got a glimpse of that in the trailers.
Volderon, is A Forum of Ice and Fire on Westeros.org where you picked up the Bantam insider information? I was looking at one of the WOW threads and saw that one poster claims to have a source in the know who said a WOW relase date would be announced by the end of this month. Here's the most recent post this person made: NOTHING OTHER THAN THE WINDS OF WINTER. I don't blame the doubt, I expect it, but that's good. go back to my original post and read it in detail. Ill reiterate it for you commoners here. In random house system it says "2015" Martin / Bantam books are announcing the release date this month. it hasn't happened yet. My source has confirmed that today. so WOIAF not it. Trust me when I say our discussion was very clear. THE WINDS OF WINTER. It has said "2015" in Random House's system for a long time now. Release date being announced this month. March. Now that release date could be next year....or this year. I am predicting it will be this year and going further I am predicting it will be no latter than August. My "personal" prediction. BUT HEY, That's just me. I don't know quite what to make of this. It seems ludicrous, but yet ... could Martin be pulling the wool over our eyes?
I'm actually trying to struggle to name an airline beyond United from the US that I've heard that terrible a review of their int'l flight food for medium/long-haul service...
Whelp, there goes any hope for the Queensmoot making the cut. I shudder to think of what will happen to the Dorne plotlines. I wonder if any Sand Snakes will make it.
It might have been that or possibly Reddit, I can't really remember. That being said, I don't really expect it this month coming from GRRM's comments that he has two monkeys still on his back, which he said "Gulp, Son of Kong" that suggests to me it's not really done. BUT. Martin announced he was almost done ADWD in March and he wasn't really done until a month later and it came out in July. This also coincides with Liam Cunningham's comments that the book was half done a year ago and that Roy Doltrice said George told him he had another one "almost ready" for him to narrate. George could almost be done and close enough that it's safe for the publisher to announce a date.
Personally, I don't mind the show over taking the books, especially if it is going to be broad strokes. At least arguing over which parts of the show come from Martin's cliff notes on the ending and which are original will give us something to talk about, some basis for speculation. Hmmm....though Volantis is probably going to be one of the things they cut, which is a shame because I would have loved to have Tiger Cloaks and Fiery Hand soldiers.
Blatantly not true, unless you travel VIA SIN or DXB (though, I believe SQ also does go via HKG from at least SFO). Plus, I'm partial to oneworld (and Cathay)... (PS - this wouldn't stop me taking a F-class suite on either EK or SQ!)
SIN is the world's best airport, and I love nothing more than working out what my residual Euro/Pounds/Dollars is in Dinarii at Dubai airport.
