Gene Roddenberry was like a huge sex pervert apparently. You had Kirk macking on some scantily clad green alien girl in every episode, all kinds of weird sex aliens on TNG, and Jeri Ryan. Star Wars is pretty sexless in comparison, until you get to Leia in ROTJ.
Well sexy meaning "involving or related to sex." I remember reading about people complaining about how much skin was in the JJ Abrams movies and being confused because their sex factor is actually turned way down from the old show.
Yeah, considering that in Star Trek's original series, the standard bridge uniform for anyone of the female persuasion was a miniskirt and leggings, and pretty much everything else was skimpier than that, the JJ films are actually pretty tame by comparison.
She seems like she has a good head on her shoulders. "Across 100 top-grossing films of 2012, only 10.8% of speaking characters were Black, 4.2% were Hispanic, 5% were Asian, and 3.6% were from other (or mixed race) ethnicities. Just over three-quarters of all speaking characters are White (76.3%). " This I find disturbing but not surprising.
That part actually understates her case a lot--76% white roles compared to 72% white population in the US--because that includes all speaking roles and makes no distinction between Leading Man and Sassy Cab Driver.
I follow this artist on twitter! I reblog her art. My icon is actually genderswapped Star Wars with two characters I really wish were includable in "Galactic Women's Day" How interesting would it have been to have one of big bads have the same design but have a different gender identity between the audioreceptors? Or any of the major heroes, for that matter. It would solve 90% of complaints levelled towards female characters in Star Wars. I really dislike overly sexualized genderswaps that completely change the personality to be more girly so I do things like imagine microseries Grievous with a woman's voice b/c then what a babe.
I have actually been thinking about asking were you got your icon from; so were is your icon from? fully agree on this
Gamiel: I drew my icon myself. Here's the fullsize. It's my contribution to a Japanese meme. I think relations between the alternate versions of these characters would be more amicable than canon.
I still wish Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were actually one person. Though female Luke (as planed way back when) would have been all kinds of awesome.
