He's never a hero in SWTOR, just a tragic mad man, tried to use extreme way(more extreme than most Sith) to take down the Emperor. Now he's trying to wipe out both the Republic and the Empire and murder his own descendant. It's all just too crazy, I hope he will get redeemed again.
It is all a matter of perception. I haven't seen this game so I have no personal opinon at this time but terms like 'hero' and 'mad' make me wary though I tend to be drawn to 'tragic' male characters. I may look into this once my life settles.
All I can say is I bet the Jedi Exile's ghost is wishing she had spent those 300 years doing something else.
I was kinda surprised when we were told the Emperor kept him alive for 300 years. SWTOR was a little disappointing for me; failed to match KoTOR. Would've preferred KoTOR III.
I agree. A lot depends on point of view, and when it comes to Revan, we still know very little about him, but more what other people think they know about him. Right now, I'm still holding out for BioWare to do something different this time, and have a role reversal at the end of the next expansion, with Revan actually being revealed to have been doing the right thing all along. We've had mutual antagonists twice now with the Hutts and the Dread Lords, so it would be nice this time to have the Revanites be TOR's Argent Crusade. Are their methods a bit extreme? You bet. But that's what would provide some genuinely interesting choices for the player character later on-- something that the storyline has lacked for a long time. We might follow Revan down the rabbit hole, but how far we would be prepared to stare into the abyss would be another.
I wish i had invested more time in this game... maybe i should. I never even finished the first storyline...
Honestly, I feel like the biggest "insult" to him in the game so far wasn't anything characterization-related, but how quickly he was disposed of in the Foundry mission. In contrast to that, "the return of Darth Revan" so far is being treated as a Big Deal with a lot of buildup. That keeps up and I'll probably be satisfied.
I'd say kind of yes. Part of it is that Revan turns out not to have done much in the last few centuries. Its arguable he influenced the Sith Emperor's mind, but its hard to tell for sure. Also, while saving him is a pretty interesting Republic flashpoint, then he just gets killed off in a Sith flashpoint. Now, maybe, he's back, but I'm expecting he'll just be the new third faction villain for both sides to fight. If they do an interesting storyline with him, we'll see. Doesn't help that the Revan novel was kind of... underwhelming.
Well, some people say that TOR is the worst thing that happened to Revan since Carth joined his crew. Others are happy that Revan has canon appearance and that for the first time they can see "true" Revan and his personality. IMHO it is too early to say whatever SWTOR ruined his character or not. I suppose that we will be able to judge it after upcoming expansion about which currently we know nothing about. We even are not 100% sure that this guy is Revan. During today's stream they were asked why his voice is different and they avoided answering this question saying something like "We would discuss it later". If his story had ended in the Foundry it would had been quite awful use of character. Luckly he is still alive...(at least apparently).
IMO, TOR did something right, at least–got Jeff Bennett to voice Revan. But seriously though, I loved Revan in Maelstrom Prison and thought he was handled there well. Foundry, not so much, but I understood why they did what they did. In these new flashpoints, I'm not ready to say yay or nay yet. He could be doing something a lot less evil-destroy-the-galaxy-y than we think he is. I'll say that I'm glad the Foundry wasn't the end of his character. Hopefully this story arc will end with him being redeemed. Or something. RafSwi7, so it's not Bennett in the new flashpoint? Well he's certainly a good imitator then. But it could be an indicator that this isn't actually Revan then...
Meh, Revan should be dead by now, the fact he's still around and just getting more and more psycho isn't appealing.
I already dislike what TOR did to Revan. If they just wiped out everything he went through in KOTOR (seriously, the man had a story arc that redeemed him!) and turns him into an evil son of a sith...I'm going to ragequit and go back to my happy place imagining Revan lived happily ever after with Bastila.
Nah. If only because Bastila is more interesting than Carth, and the romance connection makes Bastila's redemption more interesting. The Exile, on the other hand? Yeah, female is more interesting. Although both Brianna and Visas are far and away more interesting than Mical, Atton beats them all down. And the female Exile has the advantage of the connection to Sion that the male doesn't, making that encounter more interesting, too.
If only we could have had a KotOR 3, following Zayne and co from the KotOR comics. Besides Bastilla, they were far more interesting than the characters from the games.
Carth's great, and it still bothers me how the player can basically be nothing but dismissive or outright confrontational about his perfectly reasonable concerns. Carth: Dude, I like you, but don't you think the Jedi Council assigning this mission to a freshly minted padawan is weird as hell? Nice Revan: Nah, stop being paranoid. (LS POINTS GAINED!) Bad Revan: STOP WHINING YOU PARANOID FREAK! (DS POINTS GAINED!) English FemShep: I'm tired of your disingenuous assertions! Carth: Bastila, wha- [Is punched]
