Maybe they can be lengthened & shortened when needed? Sabers are crossed. Hit a button. Boom... opponent is stabbed in the chest.

Think of it like Kurgan's mini-spikes in the hilt of his broadsword in Highlander.

If the mini-sabers are in, I bet it looks great when you see it properly.

If this is close to Driver, I'm totally down with it. Love the possible Crusader/ Arthurian vibes. And to me it fits the universe. I think once people see a proper quality pic, most people will be pleased (if this is his final look).

Looks gimmicky...like the black saber. More complex/over designed is not always better.

Sounds like the lightsaber design may not have been completely finalized in that image... but otherwise the design looks solid to me.

I'm surprised no one else has said this but... Could this be Gwendoline Christie's character?

I mean, imagine her in that armor, flanked by a couple 'Chrometroopers' wearing green cloaks.

This was my hope too - but I do admit that the idea of a Cold War is intriguing - and we don't actually know if the enemy is the Empire - it could be a new from the ashes of the old or a new faction that uses elements of the Empire. We know there is stormtroopers - this doesn't mean it's the Empire we know.

This knight is the cyborg? According to Jason/MSW.

I'm still not convinced that what's behind the mask isn't entirely (or at least mostly) organic.

It could be the cyborg/collector wears different Sith artifacts. He may actually be wearing Revan's mask. Which suggests the possibility of wearing Vader's mask at some point.

And the light sword's oddness would be explained in that it would be a Sith relic.

I really really really like the idea of the sith being more medieval ( if the sith truly return or a Sith returns) something about star wars and old medieval ideas fits. I LOVE the lightsaber idea.

All signs point to NO. I think this is Adam Driver's character.

It looks like we are going back to the OT era of the Jedi and Sith being Knights that have fallen into legend. This character seems like an ancient Sith of some kind.

I'll wait for an official photo from the movie. I remember before Ep1, Darth Maul went from a human with a single-bladed lightsaber to a Sith Witch to Sith Lord. And even then, he went through a number of chamges in appearance.

I'd be happy if they went with this design. Looks like his cloak is ragged. I'm sure he'll make up for Vader's absence.

The difference is that you are talking about art and sketches. At the point where they are making costumes for photo tests, the design is all but final.

Maybe the cross guard detaches and mini-Maul uses it as his main weapon.

Or there is no more cyborg, as purported by SW7 News.

I'm thinking Driver's in there, there's no "Darth Luke", and the cyborg is a discarded concept.

I was thinking something similar, but MakingStarWars doesn't seem to think the cyborg concept has been abandoned. I assume this is because he's seen more of the concept art than we have.

Could be the cyborg and this new photo could be two separate characters.

he does say this about the cyborg
What have I seen, heard, and what do I know? Well, the person in the armor is “the” cyborg and that is his armor for battle. In other words, this is the mask the phantom wears to cover his mangled face. His final design is closer to the crusader knight design but with some small variations.
The evolution of the character’s art also suggests he is a cyborg. Most of the concepts show a lot of mechanical bits and pieces around the character’s body.

Yeah, I don't have as much faith in concept art as Jason does. I think it's entirely possible that every cyborg design he's seen has been discarded. In fact, that is what I believe to be the case.

I think what we've got here is a photograph of Adam Driver, in costume, posing for an action figure, and nothing more complicated than that.

I like the tattered cape look. Not digging the lightsaber hilt blades though. Cool concept!

Wasn't there that Hamill quote a few weeks back saying "trying on masks that can hid a beard". I think they're playing with us, being very cheeky and having a good time leading us on. This concept looks like a fit individual, not an older 60-ish Mark Hamill.
