I don't think anyone is really questioning whether or not "Episode VII" is going to be part of the crawl. It's pretty darn obvious.

I'm all for it being marketed without it though.

No worries on this end. I like this title. It feels like The "re-birth" of the force users after over 20+ years of being hunted to the brink of extinction and suppressed by the empire. I'm sure the empire didn't fall overnight and there was still fighting for years after RotJ. And now the Jedi are in a position to re-emerge from the ashes and begin growing in numbers and strength.

No meaning "another" villian. Twitter user Gabriel grey keeps hinting at the opera scene in ROTS where palpatine tells anakin the tale of Darth Plaguise the wise. And how he was killed in his sleep. My opinion is that this is the "force" that awakens to claim and destroy certain parts of the Galaxy. Maybe he just needs Lukes power or until Luke was powerful enough to fulfill his master plan.

Are they talking about "Sith" force or "Jedi" force awaking ?
Or is there a type of new force user that is known in the EU as a "Grey" that wakes up?

Episode VII will be part of the title lol. The promotional poster with the title just excludes it for marketing reasons probably, something like that

Thank god that is not the official font. Yuck.

Nightmares of 1999-2005 all over again.

It's not part of the title. The Prequels had it so people knew each one was set before the first Star Wars. Sequels don't need it. You'll see Episode VII in the opening crawl, but not on the posters or marketing.

So, I've been researching 1940-50 Serials titles, if there was any question that The Force Awakens doesn't match. This is some fascinating research, as someone who doesn't really know anything about this. Anywho, I've found the following titles so far:

The Mysterious Pilot (1937 serial) episodes: The Web Tangles, The Net Tightens
The Phantom Rider (1946 serial) episodes: The Phantom Rides, The Indians Attack, The Outlaw's Vengeance
The Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941 serial) episodes: The Scorpion Strikes
Undersea Kingdom (1936 serial) episodes: The Juggernaut Strikes
The Green Hornet (1940 serial) episodes: The Hornet Trapped
Who's Guilty (1945 serial) episode: Invisible Hands (heh)
Secret Agent X-9 (1937 serial) episodes: The Ray that Blinds, The Listening Shadow, The Forced Lie

There's tons and tons of these things...some of the titles aren't quite constructed the same way, but I believe The Force Awakens falls exactly in the spirit of these. I also found at least 10 titles that follow the construct "The <X> Strikes".

its a bit far fetched, but taking the leaving-out of the EP7 phrase into consideration:

JJ already combined the subheading with the main one: Star Trek Into Darkness

Now what about: The Force Awakens Star Wars

that would also fit with the whole Lucas quotes about makin the ST more ambigious when it comes to the good/bad approach.. the power of the Force as an ambigious one, problematic one; maybe Luke finding out finally that using the Force (in a good or bad way doesnt matter) is directly linked to the rise of violence and war? and even trying to use it in a good sense almost certainly creates an imbalanced situation where evil forces rise also... maybe Luke finding out there was some sense in his fathers approach to end all wars (and eventually end all force-using) by supporting an imperial political structure..

Anyone care to elaborate why they hate this more than they hated "Attack of the Clones"?

It'll grow on you. I'm just glad that Episode VII is apart of the crawl.

Well I mean the important thing is that it'll be called Ep VII within the movie itself. Are people not speculating here that all references to it being Ep VII will be absent?

I may have missed them, but I don't think I've seen anything that qualifies as a 'personal attack.' I have seen people more or less accuse others of being closed minded, but I don't think there is much wrong with that. The same way there wouldn't be anything intolerant about somebody calling me a naive optimist.

    Font gives you nightmares?

We've already known for the last 2 years while they were shooting VII which is after VI.

Btw there's a hint within the #StarWarsEpisodeVII title, as to what the story involves.
    G@BRIELGR@Y @GBRIELGRY

Oh and the reason you're getting a title this early, is because the #StarWarsEpisodeVII teaser 'should' be released Xmas time.

    G@BRIELGR@Y @GBRIELGRY

    ·
Remember it's only a promo logo for #StarWarsEpisodeVII that doesn't mean EPISODE VII will be absent font. It is Episode VII.

    G@BRIELGR@Y @GBRIELGRY

    ·
@Weirdadverb In a manner of speaking. Pretty much a 'force' to be reckoned with. Awakening what? What's awakening? Why? Whose it reference?

    G@BRIELGR@Y@GBRIELGRY
@kyle_newman @ManaByte @devincf @simps Not entirely true I'd imagine, remember it's a saga that all connects, and it plays to nostalgia.

    G@BRIELGR@Y @GBRIELGRY

    ·
@LAKingsDru Oh you don't need to market #StarWarsEpisodeVII that'll market itself. You'll be seeing a fair bit in the run up to Xmas...

Yes. Much like the Episode number was there in the crawl for ESB and ROTJ - same for TFA.

But you won't see it anywhere else like movie posters, toys, other promotional material.

Oh right, right, I forget that TESB and ROTJ were officially released with their Episode numbers in the titles

I suppose if Ep I had just been released as "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace", people could have confused it as being after ROTJ

Alright, it's logical that the PT would need the numbers in the official title but not now the ST
