The way I understand it, it's about the Engineers more than it is leading directly into "Alien".

one of the worst movies of 2012. But it did make $400 million worldwide on a $130 million budget. No more $200 million Robin Hoods that gross $300 million worldwide.

 

I didn't really see why it was so bad.

 

Good to know this sequel is still happening.

 

i find it interesting that he calls the original alien a "dragon"....when that was the word used by inmate golic to describe the creature in Alien3, which itself was a holdout from a script draft that featured a medieval society of neo-luddite monks on a manmade wooden planetoid.

 

I think it would be really cool if the make the new monster be sentient. No matter how scary the design (even IF they manage to top the xenomorph design), they need to make it more menacing and disturbing than just let it kill people for the sake of it. Sentience may help with that imo.

I like the Engineers a lot, but I think there is definitely room for another creature that is at least as intelligent and more surreal/alien looking than the Engineers.

And I like the Predators not mixing with Engineers and Xenos. But apparently that ship has sailed a long time ago...and yeah, Dark Horse broke my heart with Fire and Stone

 

I hope David never gets a new body in the sequel and Shaw has to lug him around in a bag and have him jabbering at her the entire movie.

 

That will probably be the case.

eh. be careful what you wish for. the last time this franchise tried for a horror beastie with a bit of sentience, we all walked out of the theater laughing our asses off at it.

 

I read online that the Deacon was never supposed to be related to the Aliens in any way (which I'm sure everybody already knows) so why did he ever think it was a bloody good idea to make it look almost identical?

 

I didn't mean as sentient as the newborn. I wouldn't even call the newborn sentient.

I hope the Engineers attach David's head to Shaw's aborted abdomen and they make Kuato's mother, tying the whole franchise in with Total Recall...

 

You just said that the newborn was too sentient and also not sentient at all.

Hmm . . . well let me throw three things at you just off the top of my head and see how you react. 1. Those two idiots wandering around in alien territory, completely lost, despite one of them being the guy with the mapping software/hardware. 2. Guy Pearce's worst performance ever and the worst old age makeup in . . . a decade at least. 3. The fact that this crew on this alien planet decided to breach their quarantine in order to try to "rescu" a guy whose feet had been wrapped around his ears.

And the worst problem . . . Michael Fassbender's performance as David was wonderful and it created some wonderful ambiguity as to his nature and his purpose and his motivations. And then it explained every second of his intriguing, complicated performance away by saying, "Oh, yeah, he didn't really know what he was doing at all; it was just somebody was telling him what to do." I have rarely seen a script betray a performance that horribly.

That c-section scene was amazing. I give it that. We needed more of that kind of stuff.

 

My bad . What I meant is that the newborn is (or at least appears to be) more intelligent than a standard xenomorph, but I definitely don't consider it as sentient.

 

Prometheus 2 still happening

 

I read about that earlier today. I want to see it, but I'll wait and see how it develops.
