CHEESE AND CRACKERS! Anyone saying full cyborg should be slapped around. I don't think too many people are suggesting it's to the level that Vader was: more machine than man. It's all been blown way out of proportion. All you can see from the concept art is a mechanical hand and partial mask.

Hey- looks like someone else had a brush with facial disfigurement:

Because Luke grew a HUGE BEARD just to NOT have it in the movie. Keep dreaming

Well Luke, we'd like to repair your damaged right eye, but your beard simply makes it impossible. Are you absolutely certain you can't shave ANY of it? And we're certainly not going back and redoing the concept art.

Absolutely not! This will not happen. That is either Adam Driver or Andy Serkis.

Even the concept is on an Imperial ship. C'mon son. This is not luke

Yeah- opponents will never be found on an enemy ship.

Or space station. Or shield generator.

I think we can eliminate Driver:

Which leaves Serkis. Okay. Support your case. Does he collect relics? What about stamps? Pogs?

Why hasn't anyone mentions MvS' character as the one in the mask? I mean he is the one that is actually rumored to be so.

Based on the "embrace" pic, he appears to be of similar height to Kira. I believe the Von Sydow rumors are based off of this:

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was McQuarrie art from a character that was scratched from A New Hope? I believe they blew the dust off of this one because they needed a desert pirate leader for the guys who cross paths with Boyega & Ridley. Interestingly enough, he appears to have a bit of a beard...

[sorry, I'm really trying to post smaller pictures. When I hit save they don't post. If someone would like to fill me in on a short cut, I'd love to hear it]

D'an, thanks for posting that concept art. Some interesting designs, can almost see MvS in some of that.

As far as Luke, I can't see any other cyborg tech beyond his existing hand. Luke might be mechanically savvy, but more machine than man? It is hard for me to wrap my brain around that.

I have seen pictures and interviews with Mark Hamill and his bad ass older Jedi beard- but in each interview he specifically mentions that the beard is 'contractually obligated'.

What if he is only growing the beard to distract the press/public/internet from what his real role is in 'The Force Awakens'? He seems to mention the 'contractually obligated' beard in a snide way-- maybe because he's butt hurt his character has turned into a CGI robotic sith lord?

Can you wrap your mind around a mechanical mask that covers no more than a third of his face? Rather than repeating myself, I'd recommend reviewing my post history. Of the pics that I believe Luke is in, the only cybernetics we can confirm are his exposed mechanical hand & partially covered face.

People are mixing up characters. Only the "Montross" pics portray a character who is more machine than man. Luke is not in those.

Regarding that element of Luke, the mechanical mask is a bit of a stretch for me if it conceals some kind of disfigurement. It would be too obvious a choice regardless of his leanings (Light or Dark.) If he is simply hiding behind a mask, maybe I could roll with that if it is a simple disguise and pretending to be an amped up version of hermit Obi-Wan.

Between leaks, not leaks, fan stuff, speculation and tons of conversation which occurred before I returned here, I cannot keep up. I appreciate your posting the snippet you did, but I do not have the time or energy to go through a vast amount of posts and threads. I am interested in the film overall, but mainly Luke's character and even then, my knowledge is limited. So thanks for info and patience.

Too obvious? Yeah, you may be onto something there. But that supports my case. Lucas may change his mind a lot, but he has always been consistent about reoccurring themes: The Fetts having malfunctioning jet packs, repeated catch phrases, Skywalkers born into humble beginnings, damaged hyperdrives stranding our heroes, mystery villains, enormous monster attacks, the handing down of Anakin's light saber, C3PO getting seriously damaged, Obi Wan using his light saber in a drinking establishment, severed limbs, & facial scarring:

    Reoccurring motifs, nicely said.

Ah you were referring to ESB wampa disfigurement; those vicious wampa swipes healed up rather well and quickly. I thought you meant a more recent injury (something I missed in recent spoilers...)

Considering the wampa damage was inflicted anywhere between 28-33+ years prior (i.e. 25-30 after RoTJ), do you think the mask serves as something more than a ruse?

Possibly. Luke got beat up pretty quickly once he started wielding a light saber. I just don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine him taking a few lumps over the course of 30 years. He may have defeated the Sith as we knew it, but one can never fully extinguish the dark side. It'll always be there. Something obviously survived. Something has continued to hunt and haunt him physically and spiritually.

Have you ever seen Clint Eastwood in "Unforgiven?" Imagine the same scenario with a different history. When we join the story, Luke has taken refuge from galactic turmoil. Perhaps the loss of a wife and son traumatized him to the brink of no return. When the next generation finds him, they give him renewed purpose. And this time Luke is ready to **** **** up.

What in the hell is the logic behind 'mark hamill is growing a beard to hide the fact he's a cyborg'. What does that even mean or what sense does that make. This whole cyborg thing seems to be based on one very sketchy source and I'm not sure why Hamill's beard has anything to do with it

just throwing it in here because that pic reminded me of something I read a while back (apologies can't remember where) about this scene and how it was originally deleted because it would subliminally hint too much to the audience that there is a Luke/Vader connection too early in the story.

Jump to now, It's pretty interesting that if they do end up using the motif of a masked Luke it'll be precisely because they want to force the audience into initially making that connection.

The strange thing is we've never actually seen to my knowledge any leaked concept art that is obviously definitely Luke. You know like what we all imagine him to look like. Just plain old bearded Luke wearing his standard Jedi robes. You know like how Obi-wan appeared in the originals. This is what the fans are most likely expecting. I mean once again why make him sign a contract to grow a big bushy obi-wan beard if it's going to be covered up?

Luke probably wouldn't be examining the head of vader with that facinated gleam in his eyes. Especially 30 some years after his death when the mourning period should be long past. Would you wanna sit there playing with the remains of your dead father? I don't think so! That's messed up! That's not the Luke i remember nor the one i want to see in this movie.

I thought Mark Hamill was excellent in ANH and TESB but somewhat blasé (like the rest of the cast) in ROTJ. This wasn't helped by a poor script. I hope TFA has a script to match the calibre of Hamill, Ford and Fischer.

Mark Hamill was the best thing about ROTJ, by far. It's his best performance as Luke.

Come on you people! They are not gonna ruin our reunion moment with Luke.
Half the audience would demand their &#%=! ticket money back.
If anything I could believe these rumors are deliberate, to sweeten his actual entrance in the film.
    - Fully armed, faced, bearded and operational!
