maybe it stems from the fact that people are so sick of Tatooine, that they would rather see an almost identical planet than see Tatooine again (me excluded of course:p).[face_batting]

The "super weapon" is going to be an allegory for global warming. The desert planet in the trailer is Hoth.

What I honestly don't understand is people's aversion to having Tatooine again. The Saga has always been like a symphony, repeating elements and doing different things with them. That's part of dramatic structure (read "three uses of the knife" by David Mamet). Instead of a knife, this would be "three uses of Tatooine". To Anakin, it meant a place of pain. To Luke, a place of stagnancy. I look forward to seeing what it will mean to the next hero...

Yeah that may be a case of some people's judgment being clouded by their hopes. And I've heard all the reasons why people don't want Tatooine but I still don't understand it. It's as baffling to me as the people who don't want anybody to say "I have a bad feeling about this." Like it or not, the repetition of it is simply part of the fabric of the saga. It's literally been in every movie (spoken in TESB), and at the start of a new trilogy set so much later, audiences need that familiarity more than ever in order to ground them before going off on a new adventure. Depending on the story, it may very well not be necessary to revisit it again after this one, but to me it would be off-putting if it wasn't in this trilogy at all. And to have an identical looking planet that wasn't called Tatooine just to avoid that repetition would just be completely ludicrous and utterly pointless.

it would be cool if it was a completely devastated Tatooine after 30 years of continuous war and destruction.:D

It seems like at least to some degree that's what we're getting, maybe even for the entire galaxy.

And haven't we seen enough lightsaber fights already? I wish just once we could have a Star Wars movie where people settle all of their differences by thumb wrestling. Because anything different is automatically better.

could explain the destroyed AT (Ridley's home) and the crashed Star Destroyer.;)

Question: Is it possible for one of it's two suns to get destroyed???

Maybe that was the rumored "catastrophic event" that Luke caused which prompted him to go into seclusion. Don't drink and use the Force, kids.

    That's my thought.

Not sure if you're serious on this one, but I sure hope not. Leave the destruction of giant orbs to Star Trek. Oh, wait. Dammit.

well I've seen people say that the desert Planet has only 1 sun, that's why I'm asking.
Interesting idea of Luke destroying one of the 2 suns.;)

That would be stretching credibility, even by Star Wars standards, if a star was destroyed without obliterating all of it's planets

JJ and Kathleen Kennedy heard the cries of a handful of people. They wanted practical effects and they cannot manage to get a second sun into the sky, so Tatooine has experienced a minor design alteration.

I'm curious about who said that, and how they would know, since the second one would surely be a product of visual effects anyway. I have a hard time believing there's a script somewhere that says "EXT. DESERT PLANET WITH ONE SUN - DAY".

I'm not into science (more into math) that's why I'm asking if it's possible.
The planet is heavily implied to be Tatooine, yet I've seen others say otherwise.;)

I think for a long time many of us were like "Not Tatooine again, please no Tatooine". But then when the trailer was released and we saw it again, most of us wanted it back and in a big way. I know I do. Feels like coming home.

I had it at one point too. I don't remember it very well and I'm not sure what happened to it, but I know I don't miss it.

Yea, it was a rough weekend, I woke up on Sunday in my hotel room with Thumb Wars, Masters of The Universe the movie, and a bunch of debit receipts from bars on the Waikiki strip. I still have Masters of the Universe.
