I don't know if I ever really shipped it. I think because I've always been several years older than either character since TCW started, it's never sat right with me. I would feel especially uncomfortable doing it now in my early-mid 20s, unless if we skip ahead to Rebels' timeframe.

Do you think Ahsoka would ever forgive Barriss and they could go back to being 'good friends'?

This actually has me thinking. With how certain things ended up in that Legend of Korra show and how much good press and reception it got, I wonder if the TCW crew might be a little bummed that they weren't just a tad braver. I mean, I know the director deliberately included a Lesbian subtext in their relationship, but it was all so subtle. There has to be a part in them that sees LoK and goes, "Dammit, that could have been us!"

I feel like Ahsoka would forgive Barriss, but it might take some time for that trust to build up again.

Well it's been over 15 years so I think if they were ever to get over it they'd have done it by now.

I think Star Wars movies have almost non existent sexuality... the old EU is another thing... and I would not mind it, IF it were directed at me, but Star Wars is for kids first... so I think delving to deep into sexuality of characters - regardless of preference - is out of place...

if they started spin off movies directed at older audiences, THAN absolutely YES... show that the universe is not only diverse by race, but also by sexual preference.

I ship it like a star destroyer! Well, used to. I really can't imagine a relationship can survive murder, framing your s/o for said murders.

Unless, its some kind of Reality Holonet program like Real Housewives of Coruscant.

Well, there are gay kids, and children with two moms or two dads. It would make them feel more accepted if Star Wars had homosexual couples. Plus, it could help make people more accepting. Especially other kids or teens who watch the show. Having diversity like that would be amazing. And Star Wars is more of a family show anyway. So, all ages watch it.

    Yeah. That's true.

Put them on the Jeremy Kyle show and if they don't shout each other to death they'll get back together.

This seems to come up all the time. I'm not sure if it's worthwhile to go through it again, since the same point has been answered by lots of folks in this thread again and again.

    Here's the Cliff's Notes-

Romance and sexuality are not the same as sexual content. We're talking relationships on the same level as Han/Leia, Obi Wan/Sabine, Anakin/Padme here, not R34. I mean, if you want to talk uncomfortable content, even Jar Jar freaking Binks had a whirlwind romance.

This isn't about delving deep into anything (there's a Valentine's metaphor) it's about exploring characters through every facet of who they are- race, species, dark/light alignment, hero villain, character strengths and weaknesses. Who someone loves, and even the simple ability to love, are poignant human concepts. Star Wars is an epic space opera as well as meditation on the human condition through issues such as loyalty, belief, war, racism, power, corruption and honor. Love is right there in the mix as one of the big concepts. It was Anakin's love for Padme that brought down the entire Galactic Republic. It was likewise his love for his offspring that ultimately defeated the Empire.

Finally, fans young and old want to see themselves, or heroes and villains they identify with represented in media. There are far more lgbt fans out there than you might think. I see no problem giving fans of all types someone to identify with in the world of Star Wars. Specifically, you have no idea how much it would mean for young gay kids to see themselves in the world they love.

As they say in another Sci Fi series, if you'd like to know more, feel free to browse previous pages of this very thread!

I completely agree with the above, but I think you meant Satine instead of Sabine :p

But yeah, it doesn't have to be about "delving into sexuality." Like Ezra's crush on Sabine, or the relationship between Hera and Kanan, it can be perfectly appropriate for children and for Rebels' audience - all that's different is the genders involved.

Though its also fiction, the television show Orphan Black focuses on a set of clones, one of whom is gay, and another is transgender, so it has been done in fiction before.

I would love to have some canonly Gay, Bi, Lesbian, Pan or even some Asexual characters in the show, but it wouldn't make sense to introduce character sexualities unless it helped the plot. u-u For now, I'm just going to continue to go along with my headcanon sexualities for the characters.

It doesn't have to help the plot really. I mean, I'm sure they can introduce it in great casual way. Like, maybe Sabine just says she prefers girls or something casually to Ezra. I mean, it would just be apart of who the character was.

Welcome to the boards by the way. :)

Yeah, I guess so... Though, personally, I think thats about the only time it would make sense just to come out about someones sexuality. Either way, if they can find a way to have a character come out as something other than straight (I really want some Asexual characters) and have it make sense, then I hope they go for it. ouo

    And thank you! ;w;

Yeah, it'll be great if they do it. :) I think have different sexualities would be awesome too. Disney already had a same sex couple in Good Luck Charlie, so it's not like they wouldn't allow it. Or rather, they'd be more open to the idea because they've already done it.

    You're welcome. :)

Yeah, I remember the Good Luck Charlie thing... It sucked though cause a couple parents complained about it. unu

What doesn't make sense to be is that they allowed a same-sex couple into Good Luck Charlie, but when Alex Hirsch wanted to showcase a same-sex couple in Gravity Falls, the idea was cut. Its like disney's live action shows are set to different standards than their cartoons, which sucks. Its almost as if they are too scared to put them in cartoons since most children are attracted to cartoons than live action.

Here's to hoping that maybe Lucasfilms can override Disney and work something out someday to get us some canonly LGBT characters. (I know Disney owns the Star Wars franchise now but aren't they still run by two different heads?)

I know. I heard about that.

I've never seen Gravity Falls. But that does suck. I mean, they could always follow Legend of Korra's example with Korrasami. It was subtle, but still you know, somewhat obvious for people to pick up on. I think what it could be though, is that there are censorship laws in other countries that don't want homosexuality shown in children's cartoons. But I hope the Rebels team is brave enough to do it anyways.

I'm sure they will eventually. ( I'm not sure. :/ sorry.)

I hadn't heard that about Gravity Falls before. Makes me sad when things like this happen, it would have been such a small, innocuous gesture. AND it would have meant so much to so many fans. I certainly don't blame the folks behind the show, it heartens me to know they're trying.

Like I keep saying, some show will inevitably be the first. After that it will be far easier for the second show and the third and on and on.

Ahsoka is 0% gay. She's hot for Lux. Barriss was raised by Luminara, so she's probably 0% gay 0% straight AND 0% bi

Is this that "new math" I keep hearing about?

Those percentages seem off, especially in light of TCW director Giancarlo Volpe's feelings on the matter.

I can’t believe someone ships Barrissokka. You have no idea how hard I secretly pushed this agenda in "Droid Factory" “Weapons Factory” (thank you for pointing out my mistake - I have worked on a lot of shows, I some times get the titles confused.)

All that said, you can believe as you wish. It's a galaxy that's open to all manner of interpretation and fan theory!

I'd much rather Ahsoka go for Barriss than Lux.

As much as I am not an Ahsoka fan in general, I am a fan of her having taste.

As I said earlier, I can't help but wonder if the TCW are kicking themselves now because of how the Barriss and Ahsoka relationship was handled in the series.
