Eh. I'm normally one of the first people to object to the whole "death to franchises" crowd, but in this case? There's really only so many dinosaur-on-a-rampage movies that can be made.

Real talk: there are about a hundred ways they could do a new Jurassic Park movie that I'd actually wet myself over. JW does not appear to be one of them. The most interesting thing JW seems to have to say about that world is "yeah, but they're pets now!"

Yeah, I mean, everyone's up in arms about the genetically engineered super-dino, ignoring the fact that every single dinosaur on the island (at least in the first movie) was genetically engineered. They spliced them up with frog DNA and stuff. And aside from Chris Pratt having his own squad of raptors, this movie just looks like a rehash of the first one with prettier technology. I just don't get it.

I feel like I've said this before in this thread, but my issue is that they seem to be operating on the definition of insanity: doing the same damn thing again and expecting different results.

Not interested, even as much as I loved the first movie.

And having the balls to call it "Jurassic World" is basically just trolling the people who actually want to see the premise evolve a bit.

It's totally a rehash of the others. The Lego playsets look like a conglomeration of every film: http://www.etonline.com/movies/159823_jurassic_world_lego_playsets_are_coming/

    Venom-spitting dilophosaur from JP1? Check.
    T-Rex hunt & capture from JP2? Check.
    Pteranodon attack from JP3? Check.
Raptors and Jeep chases galore again? Check.

The only thing REALLY unique was the mosasaur.

Reality show: Jurassic Survivor. Outwit. Outlast. Get eaten.

Cooking with Dinosaurs. But raptors discover how to cook people, shocking everyone.

Nature documentary... nobody expected it to go wrong, and schoolchildren around the world watch it live.

Reading the Jurassic World interviews I get the feeling (well, more than a feeling, they spell it out) that the makers comment the blockbusters in general with the movie. Seeing realistic-looking live-action dinosaurs for the first time was a big deal, but after twenty years of cutting-edge visual effects they are not that special. "The focus group wants the next big thing." So the executives get an idea, it is a bad idea, cue running and screaming.

There's this meta-element with everything, Doylist and Watsonian reasons are the same. No feathers? Well you could put them in but people think they are cooler without. T-Rex? Of course there's a T-Rex, and it is the same one because it's famous.

Reluctant to get myself excited much given what Gorefiend just said, and yet... I gotta admit, I love me that concept art of Ripley in a... whatever the heck that is, alien... disguise... thing.

If the concept art is accurate, it seems to be a Superman Returns style reboot which ignores Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection and stars Ripley and Hicks.

So, just saw Jupiter Ascending and I consider it a solid popcorn movie with gorgeous design that made it well worth to see in the movie theater

Hmm. On the one hand anything that ignores Alien 3 and Resurrection sounds good to me. On the other hand, who the heck looks at Superman Returns and says "this is a model we should follow"?!

I would be okay with that retcon, I enjoyed 3 and Resurrection but I can't deny that they are inferior to what came before and what could of been.

I dunno, I was reading some quotes on the wiki page, where Sigourney once talked about how she always felt Resurrection left things unfinished, and how she felt the Ripley human-alien hybrid would probably lose its battle with the alien side of it in a sequel... which sorta would chime with that creepy image of Ripley in that half-alien head mask thing.

I just don't want them to contradict Alien: Isolation.

(BTW, it appears in an interview with the creators, it's actually "canon" or something similar)
