So, what kinda viewpoint do you all think this game will have?
Obviously the other battlefronts have been 3rd person perspective but maybe Dice are going to mix it up and give us a FPS??
Or a mix of the 2?

The other two main Battlefront's have been both third person and first person with bias toward third person.
I'm going to say this new one will be both third person and first person but with a very large bias on first person.
And if they can pull it off, then it should be good. It'll be different to experience a full FPS Battlefront at first, but that shouldn't be a problem getting used to.

I would guess maybe a mix of the two but considering it's DICE; probably more tailored toward a first person perspective with optional third person perspective.

A mix of 1st and 3rd. It wouldn't be Battlefront without the option of choosing one or the other, but I wonder how they'll execute the multiplayer. Will they have playlists for each POV? Or will it all be played in 1st?

Why restrict that? The other two didn't bother with which POV you used. I see no reason this one should either.
Yes, it might give third person the advantage of looking around corners and the like, but then those in first person have a clearer view of the field with a more accurate line of sight.

Well that's just it though. One person will have 1st person, and the other, 3rd. You'd have to bet people will complain about it, right?

That is why games that once were freely POV-switchable stick just to one nowadays, I admit.
But that also makes fights fairer, in a sense. But then POV is a tactical option just the same as which class.

Point well made. Each class always has a pro and con. Don't get me wrong, I want to be able to switch views, but for the sake of those whom can't stand it, we'll probably be stuck with one view.

There has been a lot of tweets from DICE about being anxious to reveal stuff about the game. And they have been throwing parties and what not lol. They celebrated a new trailer I believe because they tweeted a picture of the team sitting in front of a projector with Star Wars Battlefront on the screen.

Hopefully that trailer will be released within the next month or so. Other than that, I'm surprised that they'll be waiting till December for Ep. VII to release.

What about more match customization? You can choose what faction instead of purely choosing an era, like Empire vs Black Sun, Hutt Cartel vs Tuskens, or CIS vs Rebellion, etc. Perhaps a built in map editor for custom missions too.

In Battlefield 4 you are able to have any of the three factions fight each other (although map do have defaults), so I could see the ability to mix around the main factions from the saga.

It was always a wish of mine to have the same faction go against each other much like you could in "Galactic Battlegrounds". What purpose would that serve? None, but it would be cool.

For those waiting for a new trailer, the GDC is next week.
Who wants a bet we'll see something there?

    I do.

I didn't know about that, and I had about 6-7 friends tell me all about Battlefield 4. [face_sigh]Thanks for that input, now there's a better chance that we'll be able to mix factions knowing that.

Like Lazy Storm Trooper said, DICE already did it with Battlefield 4, so we may very well be able to mix 'em up on BFIII. :D

SUMMARY OF BF I and BF II pros and cons and then finally recommendations for DICE's new game below that:

    BATTLEFRONT I
    • + Absolutely great gameplay. Pitched battles had lots of participants at the same time and choke points greatly increased gameplay rather than just running around.
    • + All eras and battles related to the films, you had an epic Clone Wars era and the Original Trilogy
    • + Vehicle combat realistic and there were aerial vehicles such as gunships on land battles.
    • + No matter how many times you played a map, there were so many variations on gameplay. It was epic!!
    • + You are treated as one of the guys by the AI. If you are a threat, the AI engages you, but if there are more pressing priorites for the enemy, then they will focus on other participants.
    • + Command orders to men. Whilst they may have abandoned you sometimes, your troops were easier to command and direct than in the second game.
    • + The use of natives to assist in certain maps added to the authentic feel of the game.
    • + The Jedi opponents represented a real threat.
    • + The maps were superior to the second game.
    • + More authentic voices of troops (clone troops, droids, stormtroopers, rebels or Imperial officers) and narrators (Yoda or the Emperor)
    • - The number of maps were limited.
    • - The Jedi opponents were too hard too kill (you had to land on them or use the droid's rockets to shoot them off the platform)
    • - You couldn't be a Jedi.
    • - The Imperial Stormtroopers weapons were terrible (maybe this was to reflect their aim in the films)
    • - The Clone Wars Era weapons were better and made the Original Trilogy seem outdated by comparison.
    • - The uniforms didn't really change for different environments.
    • - The edges of the map were like solid walls and the graphics were a little outdated (great for the time though)
    • - Sometimes the AI was irritating - as the Empire, they would rarely hold onto to your command posts making it infuriating.
    • - Occasionally you would respawn right in the middle of a firefight and be killed instantly.
    BF2
    • + Larger maps and better graphics.
    • + Space battles became available
    • + The missions were a little more challenging with checkpoints and different to Instant Action.
    • + You could sprint! The tanks also moved at a more realistic speed.
    • + You could be a Jedi
    • + Inclusion of Episode III locales.
    • + Native only maps
    • + New maps such as Polis Massa and Mustafar (but at the expense of old favorites from BF1)
    • + New classes of trooper and stormtrooper accuracy was corrected.
    • + Missions/the story of Rise of the Empire was phenomenal
    • + The attention to detail (e.g. Tantive IV, or night time on Naboo was cool, the background area of the map had much better graphics and the trooper armor looked cool)
    • + Galactic Conquest became more tactical.
    • - Being a Jedi was clumsy. It should have been more like being a Jedi in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith. Instead, the character just slashes down erratically and is easily killed. You also cannot ask troops to follow you or ask the Jedi too.
    • - The order system became terrible and command posts too easily captured and lost.
    • - The AI was poor. It focused on you all the time as if singling you out. Even if you were a sniper and out of reach, it seemed like all the enemy team were trying to shoot at you, ignoring several of your teammates right in front of them.
    • - The removal of some of the old maps from BFI like Geonosis or Bespin.
    • - Ground vehicles were unrealistic in the damage they caused and also area affect damage was virtually non existent (e.g. if a tank exploded).
    • - Removal of orbital strikes from BF1.
    • - The battles were too spaced out with few active participants on the map at the same time. Firefights therefore didn't last long.
    • - Perhaps the biggest mistake: NO AERIAL VEHICLES on ground maps. No gunships?!!
    • - Space battles didn't vary enough. They were too similar. And there was little control over the main Star Destroyers or Capital ships which could have been EPIC.
    • - Galactic Conquest was too restrictive. Whilst there should be some hyperspace strategic points, you could only travel around like a board game. Also fleets were too expensive to add.
    • - Less authentic voice actors. The new clone troopers had a different accent which was neither the Clone Wars era trooper or the Original Trilogy stormtrooper?
    • - The balance of the sides in BF1 was lost. The clones seem far superior to droids in firepower and the game became less realistic.
    • - Knightfall could have been so much better. The storming of the Jedi Temple should have been just clone troopers vs Jedi. That would have been EPIC. Instead you lose the awesomeness by having camouflaged 'Temple guards' who have blasters and spoil the experience of taking on a hundred lightsabers like in ROTS

DICE'S NEW GAME> STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT - tips:
    • First and foremost, try to have both the Clone Wars era and Original Trilogy as well as any new sequel missions and maps.
    • Second, PLEASE BRING BACK AERIAL vehicles on ground maps. It really adds to the gameplay to have gunships. In face improve on it, by having vehicles that can carry walkers (as in AOTC) and allow troopers to call for a gunship or direct them as you can with ground troops.
    • Possibly combine ground and space battles.
    • Vary the space battles to make them more engaging. Make the capital ships larger and have an actual bridge to fight on with a command post on there. Have ground vehicles on the ship such as walkers and turrets.
    • Have control of capital ships. Imagine a moving Star Destroyer rather than a stationary one!!! This would make it a dynamic battle.
    • If you are going to have Jedi, make them much better. Make them at least similar to Jedi in the videogame Star Wars Revenge of the Sith. Make them less like Superman as in BF1, but much better than the slashing characters in BF2. Even the Jedi in Republic Heroes have better gameplay.
    • Improve the graphics - from the trailer, looks like this will happen.
    • Bring back BF1 maps as well as BF2 maps.
    • Seriously improve the AI. At least revert back to BF1 style "one of the guys" AI where you are one of many, not the only target for the computer to kill.
    • Keep sprinting and additional troop classes, but bring a better order system.
    • Bring back orbital strikes!!! Link this to joint ground space battles if you can.
    • Add the best of BF1 and BF2. Command posts and epic pitched battles with choke points from BF1 were great. BF2 brought better graphics and attention to detail.
    • Have an Attack of the Jedi Temple just against Jedi without those pesky guards.
    • Have an Order 66 mission, where you receive orders and kill Jedi who are unaware or have to creatively kill them?
    • Improve Galactic conquest so that you can have more fleets and more troops to deploy a little bit like Empire at War.

Mixing up factions could serve a purpose in terms of making up a scenario. That could also be applied to heroes, like having republic clone troopers led by Vader attacking rebels or CIS droids led by a jedi to simulate early imperial era.

    In Bf2 it was
    CIS:Maul
    Rep. Obi
    OT Imp. Pre suit Anakin
    OT Rebels: Ewan Obi Wan

That setup made even less sense than what I suggested. Also in the EU many CIS and surviving jedi teamed up after order 66 and the separatist betrayal on Mustafar.

Right, I was just joking around. :p

Reminds me though, I wonder what kind of heroes and villains we'll have in this one. Surely most of the same, but anything unique other than they carry two lightsabers, or have slightly different force abilities.
