ST Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) in Episode VII

Yes, there are a lot of short names, but Rey, Poe, Maz, and Finn aren't bad names at all.

Snoke on the other hand is a crap name.

Although I do like the Supreme Leader title. Love the fanatical totalitarian vibe they are going for.

 

No - "Snoke" claims the crown for most absurd, unstar warsy Star Wars name EV- VA.... it's an to the Nth degree...

On a more serious note, they are really driving home the Nazi parallels. First we have the Emperor (Kaiser); now we have a Supreme Leader (Führer).

 

Maybe they are going to be the North Korea of the galaxy. I mean, Kim Jun Un goes around killing his subordinates, I would not be surprised if Snoke is not a maniacal paranoid character who kills people at his own pleasure.

Supreme Leader Kim Jun Un... it going to be hard for Snoke to one up that guy.

My God people... can't you create more unique names?

 

See here's the problem. Names like Sleazebaggano, Porkins, Sny Snootles, and other names deemed silly or weird are mostly from characters who didn't have any real significance. They were meant to be comic names symbolizing the silliness of the characters they were. People are saying that names like Han, Obi-Wan, and Darth Vader are silly and, well, they are not. Han is a normal name. Vader is short for Invader, Obi-Wan pays homeage to ancient Asian names (as does Qui-Gon). Jar Jar Binks is silly but his character is also, well, silly.

Snoke is supposed to be the supreme leader of the evil forces and the dark lord of the new trilogy. Like I said, he's the Sauron, Voldemort, Thanos, Apocalypse, and Sideous/Palpatine of the new movies. You can't honestly say "well we've had other silly names before" and equate Snoke to those with the context of who he is and what his role is.

That's why I think it is VERY likely they threw out that name as a first name of someone in charge and that name will probably not ever be used. And, for all we know, Serkis' character may generate an image of a humanoid type character in charge of the First Order and never actually be seen yet the image shown is not the actual form the leader takes. In other words, he's like a Palpatine that doesn't actually exist-a persona created by the REAL evil lord. (no, I'm not saying it's Plagueis so don't accuse me of that).

I really feel like nobody in their right mind would name the Supreme baddie simply Snoke...especially not the likes of Abrams, Kasdan, Kinberg, and Kennedy.

 

I had thought it was proven fake. Couldn't remember for certain.

I hadn't put much credit in it anyway, I guess that is why I couldn't find it.

While I disagree with your opinion and ultimately the theory, the first name option is an interesting one. You never know!
