I absolutely love the name Snoke, because it sounds like an unassuming swamp creature or something, yet he has the "rank" of Supreme Leader. That makes for an interesting juxtaposition, because it sort of implies humility. If this character was really pretentious, he'd change his name to a much more threatening (and eye-rolling) one like "The Dark Merovingian" or something. The fact that he doesn't have an ultra evil or extravagant name makes him far more threatening IMO, because that's exactly what you'd expect. Instead, he has the name of a goblin NPC you'd find while exploring a mine in World of Warcraft.

I love how this thread doubled in less than 24h in total posts simply by the announcement his name is "Supreme Leader Snoke"

I love the title Supreme Leader. It makes me think this is a very different organization than the Empire. Where the Empire was the legitimate government of its time even though it was evil I think the First Order is an illegal radical movement sweeping across the galaxy. Worshipping Darth Vader and the Sith and causing destruction for the New Republic which I think is the legitimate government.

I don't think it sounds that good when you say it aloud.

    Snoke (like smoke)

    Snoke (like Snok)

Sounds crappy to me. Meh. A word like "defiant" altered to something like

    Defieus (pronounced as dee-fie-us)

    SUPREME LEADER DEFIEUS

That sounds more bad guy-ish to me. Snoke doesn't sound that cool or intimidating or anything, really. Kinda lame but I guess we'll get used to it. Not hugely impressed with the choice of names in TFA.

Maybe Snoke is the official head of the First Order (as his title suggests), but he doesn't appear in the public at all. That is the task of his subordinates like Kylo Ren or General Weasley. Maybe he is something like a legend who barely (or even never) appears to the public. In this scenario, he is the leader but still someone working from behind the scenes.

Chewbacca sounds stupid to me because it reminds me of chewing tobacco. Hey Mr. Chew Toy, bark for me! Bark!

That's the kind of logic people are using with Snoke.

One thing people should consider is that Snoke isn't intended to be the badass villain they assume he should be. I've been saying for months now that Kylo Ren should take his master out fairly soon in E8. The real villain here should be Kylo this time, not another Palpatine.

For all we know, he might be the anti-Yoda as some have already speculated. It's amazing how often these Personality cult types are anything but the master race types they seem themselves as: Hitler and Kim Jong-Un - both quite odd looking or bordering on the ridiculous were it not for their despotic means and armies of henchmen to back them up. What if Snoke is some twisted little malevolent ******?

A kind of Star Wars version of the Mekon from Dan Dare.

Not all villains need be physically intimidating in the way Vader or Maul were, or no doubt Kylo Ren will be.

Yeah I think he is Voider. He's probably the new Emperor, or closest thing to it.

Where did you get the last name Weasley for the General? I haven't heard that before.

I'm guessing it's because Gleeson played one of the Weaselly's in Potter, Kip.

I think you are on to something. Snoke reminds me much more of Smeagol like villain than a Palpatine.

It would be really different from the villains we've seen before. And a counter-point to Kylo Ren and Luke. I like the idea of this shrivelled creep sending out his fanatics across the galaxy.

LOL - Defieus is exactly the name they should avoid like the Plague (is) in my opinion.

The revelation of The Supreme Leader Snoke has gotten me very excited. My biggest worry was that JJ and crew would try too hard to make the movies epic and serious (which the OT never were at all), I cant say "Supreme Leader Snoke" with a straight face..... I f-ing love it.

I cant wait to hate "The Super Leader Snoke". Darth Maul, Tyranous, Sidious ,us never did it for me. Snoke. so simple. yet has the capability to be so evil. I LOVE IT.

Anyone want to bet they Kylo kills the Great Snoker by the end of EP VIII?

I could get behind this, though I still want to see some sort of development of the nature of the Force in the ST. Snoke needn't be the instigator for this, I suppose.

Plus, a malevolent Muppet ( I know he's CG, but still..) is a cool idea!

Snoke is neonazi material, you gotta be even more self-absorbed than Palpatine to form First Order, the elites - not just 'remnants of the Empire'.

Glad to hear he's a new character (based on name only), maybe Plagueis' backup plan?

Yes. this. I logged on today. Saw the name reveal and was excited. Then I saw it was simply 1 line from a starwars.com article. The fact The Supreme Leader Snoke was reveal in that way made me smile.

No, true. I expect that he has a mastery of the Darkside. My feeling has been that the 'awakening' of the title referred to more than Rey ( or Finn ), and I'd suggested that some of GL's old ideas about this ( and the personification of the Force ) might come into play, perhaps through the villain. Snoke seems to be going in another direction to this, which is cool, and I'm sure will work out well.

I still have this nagging expectation of something major happening with the Force, but we are only at the beginning of the trilogy, so I suppose it's still possible.
