I was just poking fun. While having all the minions instantly die when the king is killed may be a convenient Hollywood cliche, usually killing the leadership has a similar, if less dramatic, effect in the real world. Cinema eschewing the mopping-up stuff for a dramatic shortcut is understandable if the film is already running long.

Yes, of course the Others will all die and the wights will go back to being corpses from killing one guy. Because that's how this franchise works. Kill the Starks and every Northern lord just disa-- oh, wait.

Speaking of Star Wars, Darth Maul is leader of the White Walkers.

Yeah my first thought in this awesome friggin ending was reading Jon Snow's mind as, "So, I just gotta kill you."

I liked Dani and Tyrion's talk. Great scene.

I notice when Arya's teacher talked to the other girl after Arya left he said, "Perhaps she is ready and perhaps she is not," instead of "Perhaps a girl is ready, perhaps a girl is not."

I'm glad the giant got away.

It occurred to me that the more agreeable characters...note I did not say good guys...might come in conflict over who is to sit on the Iron Throne. "Break the wheel". Perhaps Dani and Snow will come together at the end and simply destroy the throne and put a new more agreeable society in place.

I felt this scene was overlooked.

I love how Tyrion keeps his wits and insists that Dany must prove she's worth of his counsel.

You'd think the White Walkers could just take their army to the far end of the Wall by the sea, then just let their horde of zombies form a floating barge and just float along the shallow coast right around the Wall and bypass it.

Ser Friendzone is not out yet! It does appear that he has made up his mind to die in some form of glory though.

He will die gloriously, but Darrio will die more gloriously and will overshadow him as he dies tragically in Dany's arms.

I've been wondering about Jora's end game. I mean, dude has the gray scale disease, which from what I understand is very contagious, and he could infect the object of his affection with it.

"He may even be in love with you. I think he is"

So he's sad, desperate and a creep. When not on screen, he probably listens to "Every Breath You Take" by The Police on his Walkman.

The Night's King is actually the lovechild of Darth Maul and Laufey of Jötunheim.

I thought dani came off as a bit of a spoilt brat in her "break the wheel" scene with tyrion. All the gear, no idea

My gut tells me he will die at the "Great Games", but the show touched on a Greyscale cure earlier in the season. The talk Stannis had with his daughter about how he tried everything in the world to find a cure for her and in the end it saved her life. I'm curious whether this was just backstory or if the writers are showing there is a cure somewhere for Jora.

He's not the Night's King-- at least not the one whose (legendary) backstory is detailed in the books. Doesn't really fit him at all. The Night's King was LC of the Night's Watch. He declared himself king on the Wall, hence "Night's King," not "Night" as in "Long Night" or longer nights during winter. He was human. Oh, and he was defeated by a Stark-wilding coalition, killed, and burned.

As far as I know, the only basis for the assumption that Ice Darth Maul is the "Night's King" is an HBO episode guide from a year ago when he first appeared calling him that-- an episode guide that was quickly edited. Whether it was because it's a "spoiler" or because it was simply a mistake on the part of the intern who edits the thing, the Night's King is from the Age of Heroes, approximately 10,000 years before the story of ASOIAF/GoT (though many in-universe dispute the timeframe). Other heroes who supposedly lived during that time include Brandon the Builder, founder of the Starks and builder of Winterfell and possibly the Wall and other large castles such as Storm's End; Lann the Clever, founder of the Lannisters who supposedly conned the Casterlys out of their castle; the Grey King, founder of the Iron Islands who married a mermaid. These are legends and it's unclear if there's any truth to them whatsoever. The First Men had no complex writing system and Andals wrote down these legends thousands of years after they were supposed to have happened. It's not Gurm's style to explicitly reveal the truth of these things one way or the other. That is, that Other with the crown-like spikes on his head (lol) is not the Night's King, and if he is, it's something completely original to the show and he probably does not share the backstory of the mythological figure in the books.

D&D confirmed him as the "Night's King" in some post-episode discussion thing. Their version of the Night's King no doubt, since the Night's King was a human.

Gave this ep an almost immediate rewatch afterwards, just the Tyrion / Khalessi scenes and started again from the White Walker attack. It's an interesting structured episode because it's about 15 minutes of jumping into the other plots and then 40 min just the Jon Snow / wall story. (But the Tyrion Khalessi stuff was really good, I love seeing Tyrion interact with her) I'm not gonna say the entire show was building for 5 seasons to this but it came reallllly close. It's pretty interesting that while not main castmembers died it basically ended the entire wildling beyond the wall plotline in about five minutes (aside from the survivors on the boats). Now it's just all white walker zombie beyond the wall and that's it! I'm calling it's such a strong episode ender, that I can't seen any other action or drama moments in episode 9 or 10 topping it. Should have been the season finale. Like I can't see the Wall storyline having a bigger setpiece or more dramatic impact for the remaining two episodes. And, to me, the main thrust of the show *is* the White Walker advance, that's what moves it. Hell, it's the final shot of Season 2.

Ice Darth Maul? Does that mean his fanbase is going to pretend he's a lot cooler than he actually is?

George RR Martin's Stannis "Half my army is made up of unbelievers. I will have no burnings. Pray harder."

D&D's Stannis "Lol lets burn my daughter"

But anyway lol book readers show is so much better it has great writing blah blah blah

Yeah, man alive that was a rough watch all around. Geonosis: Westeros Edition was OK but damned if that awful scene with Shireen didn't leave a horrible, horrible taste in my mouth for the rest of the ep.
