Okay, late on the scene, but what is with this Luke is blind bit? What's the source of this rumor? It does, as someone else mentioned, remind me of that old Kung Fu tv show.

The great thing about blind Luke is that it's STAR WARS referencing its source material, which it has always been great at doing. How you say....? Pastiche?

RDJ in the Avengers is the same thing. Evans wasn't a big enough name yet so the leadership role went to Stark. Getting Ford back for SW is like Marvel wrangling RDJ back once his contract expired, they would've given him anything (in RDJ's case it was $40 million).

I mentioned it, since I always watched this show as a kid. I was a fan of Asian martial arts, which is strange for a woman. [face_laugh]

Because Star Wars is about more than just Jedi.

Makes the spin offs kind of pointless and redundant. Just put Boba Fett in the main episodes then.

There will always be at least one Jedi in the main saga films.

If the leaks about Skywalker's screentime in this movie are correct, then there's likely something along the lines of 300 pages of discussion in this thread per-minute of screentime for the character.

Probably from Reddit or 4chan or something... as for how it got formed, it could be due to Luke just having fought Boba Fett while blinded by a flash grenade in the latest issue of Marvel's SW book. It calls back to Luke's first lesson as a Jedi--"Your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them"--and it's an easy leap from that to the whole "look for clues to the ST in the upcoming canon materials" to "Luke's gonna be a blind Jedi Master, like a blind kung fu master".

Just like how Cylo-IV's mysterious appearance in Vader #1 led to people speculating that's Andy Serkis' role.

And how the revelation of Cylo-IV/V's team of "replacements" for Vader might turn out to have Serkis' character among them. Then it was revealed none of 'em used the Force, so now they were possibly "The Seven".

Or how the on-set codename "Kira" got smashed together with "Rey" to form "Kira Rey" as a match to "Kylo Ren" to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kylo & Rey are the twin children of Han & Leia no matter what anyone else says.

Fans see clues where there are none, and might miss any clues that are actually there, and some of those fans put those wild theories out on the web as if they're actual 'rumors'.

I don't care if Blind Luke doesn't happen. It's still one of the most interesting speculations I've seen around here. :)

I'd love to see that. The initial image I have reminds me a bit of Rutger Hauer, in Blind Fury:

Master Po: Never assume because a man has no eyes he cannot see. Close your eyes. What do you hear?
Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds.
Master Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat?
    Young Caine: No.
Master Po: Do you hear the grasshopper that is at your feet?
Young Caine: [looking down and seeing the insect] Old man, how is it that you hear these things?
Master Po: Young man, how is it that you do not?

A blind or otherwise challenged Luke isn't a terrible idea. Could be natural causes, maybe something from his fairly dangerous Jedi work.

I know it's just a random rumor from the Internet but there's nothing about it that would seem to pose a problem for his character or what his role is likely to be.

So Luke is like a sidelined demi-god waiting for the next hopeful? Is he channeling the Force and sending Rey the saber? That would be like Luke to be balancing the living and the cosmic force. Atlas-Luke.

Blind is a lack of literal vision, not necessarily imaginary, thoughtful and prognosticating vision. The implication is that Luke would be inward stretching out, if he were literally blind. In greater touch with the Force.

Really? He's blind? The GFFA can replace anyones hand, even take someones entire organ structure and shove it into a sack inside a droid and they can't give someone a set of artificial eyes? Sounds like Star Trek has an advantage on Star Wars here!

In the hypothetical case of Blind Luke, maybe he could do something about his blindness but chooses to just live with it for some reason instead. One of the first things he learned about the force was not to trust your eyes. One of the last things his father wanted was to see his son with his own eyes. Little things like that can have a strong impact.

I'd get fake eyes in a heartbeat as most normal people would, but then we're not mystical warriors wearing robes and living alone in some remote mountain castle. Luke's fairly grounded as far as Jedi go but he still talks to ghosts and whatnot.

Besides this isn't solely about what technology can do. I think it'd be a MUCH stronger story if Luke chose to remain blind if so injured. A enduring struggle often helps build faith, strength, and character and I am speaking from experience.

The Luke rumors continue to be bad, don't they? There really hasn't been one positive rumor concerning Luke since it was announced that he would be in the film.

How would we even really know that he was blind though, if he's only in the film long enough for Rey to hand him a lightsaber? And even if we're supposed to know because of the white eyes, wouldn't this seeming disability of Luke's put a damper on what was supposed to be a sort of positive ending to the film after han's death?
