I know I'm I might be in the minority on this but I'm not 100% sure on kylo being a solo I'm about 60

A little too weird, even for Star Wars.

I don't think he is a Solo or Skywalker.

Really don't want a repeat of Anakin; give us something new.

I don't particularly care if Kylo is related to ANYBODY (or any of the new leads, for that matter), I'm just excited for Driver's performance. He's fantastic in Girls, and I was enthralled to hear he would be in TFA

I hope he's not related to anybody, as we've been down that road before.

Its kind of a toss up for me. On the one hand, something new would be nice. A really fresh villain to go in a new direction. On the other hand, a Skywalker/Solo gone bad does generate drama/pathos which might strengthen the narrative. A brand new, unrelated villain that is obsessed with Vader seems weird. If a "Vader obsession" is in the picture, I think some kind of Skywalker/Solo heir makes more sense.

If Ren is somehow a third Skywalker, the rumors of his impersonating Luke get's a new spin that might make sense: if he's running around claiming to be the son of Vader and heir to his title, it makes sense why the Galaxy would mistakenly think him to be Luke.

I don't really endorse this theory, just kind of playing it out to see how it would line up with rumors.

As I wrote earlier, I am late to this whole discussion but, other than fan conjecture and speculation, is there any tangible evidence linking this character to any of the original three?Daisey Ridley's juxtaposition between Carrie and Harrison in the first public photo of the script reading (not to mention her resemblance to Natalie Portman) seemed to point towards a familial link. I just don't see anything like that with Kylo Ren or Adam Driver.

It makes much more sense to me, that Kylo is a random force sensitive young'un gone wrong. And yes, Skywalker/Solo twins AGAIN gone bad would be just boring at this stage.

Evidence of a Solo/Skywalker connection to Ren is, to my knowledge, largely based on impressionistic assessments in MSW's scene descriptions. I guess some could argue a Driver/Ford resemblance as well.

I care more about difference in personality than difference in origin. He either has an intimate connection to the heroes or he doesn't, and the latter has been done with Maul, Dooku and Grievous. I want someone who is interesting to watch, and behaves differently than Vader and Palpatine. I feel like a lot of Sith fall into a limited selection of character types and it would be nice for Ren to subvert that.

I agree on both points. As long as he's not a generic Sith Lord, I really don't care where he comes from or who his parents are.

And I mean more than just tweaking his lightsaber and cloak. He's got to be a unique and interesting character.

A few things seem to point to him being a Solo. He may be a Darth Vader wannabe, but I'm sure he'll have some of his parents in him, too. Just because he has the same power Anakin/Luke/Leia had doesn't mean he'll be an Anakin clone in personality.

If anything, he may represent that troubled only child who has parental abandonment issues and has delusions of grandeur. A total obsessed narcissist.

I've only seen him in While We're Young. He was great, but this is such a different role I'm interested to see how he tackles it.

"I don't think Rey is a Solo or Skywalker.

    :p

Simply making Kylo a Solo or Skywalker doesn’t mean he is a repeat of Anakin. That notion is ridiculous. What matters is the characterization. That is what will determine if Kylo is a “repeat of Anakin” not merely who he is related to.

I know many people want Rey to be a Solo (or a Skywalker) but I don’t see that adding much to the story. However, I think Kylo being a Solo has a ton of potential. It’s a deliberate reversal of the father-son dynamic of the Original Trilogy and it gives us a more personal villain. Furthermore, I think Kylo being obsessed with Vader’s legacy is more interesting if Vader is his grandfather.

    PT: Good Skywalker goes bad.
OT: Good Skywalker redeems bad Skywalker.
ST: Bad Skywalker (Solo) goes good?

I have to admit it "rhymes" tonally, and sets up an interesting character arc full of regret and redemption. Rian Johnson has demonstrated his skills in telling that type of story before, and I imagine if this were the case, that the heavy character lifting would happen in VIII.

I couldn't agree with you more.

*IF* these people are related, would be an interesting dynamic if Kylo received a lower midiclorian count between the two. His "shock and awe" campaigns might be a smoke screen to the fact that indeed he truly is not a powerful Force user. He may aspire to be, but he might be faking some of it.

Goes back to this thing with Leia. She is Luke's sister, but (unless it's a major secret plot point) she seemingly hasn't developed her abilities in 30+ years. Luke was the one who apparently inherited the good genes.

Which leads to an entirely crazy theory that Leia (who may indeed have developed her Jedi abilities over the years) may have miserably failed to train her "son" in the ways of the Force. A big galactic secret...

The character he plays in Girls is (IMO) quite narcissistic and a bit emotionally unstable. I think he'll fit in quite nicely with our GFFA villains. I actually need to get around to watching some of his other work because I've heard he's a very versatile actor; I've only seen him in an eccentric, self-loathing sort of role

I enjoyed While We're Young -- he plays a hipster film-maker (so not that far off from Girls, I think?).

I can see this playing into his issues with Han. Maybe he resents the fact that Han is a muggle and thus is the reason why Kylo isn't as powerful as he thinks he should be. Kind of like how Voldermort hates his muggle father.
