Page counts can change. SW ones, ahead of publication, tend to be particularly unreliable.

Yeah, but we're less than a month away from publication. I would think they'd have the page count locked down by now. And I'm inclined to think 560 pages might actually be accurate, since both Amazon and B&N list that page count and Amazon's product measurements clock in at 8.8 x 6 x 1.8 - in other words, a rather hefty hardcover. And they've reduced the $17.99 USD cover price down to $8.60, to boot.

I wonder when we'll get an excerpt?

The reason people are sceptical is very simple: There have been many, many deceptive page counts before.

But that shouldn't be confused with the fact that, if accurate, it'll be welcomed.

Either this book will have an enormous type setting, or else we're about to get one of the top 3 or 4 longest Star Wars novels ever released. And it's for YAs.

And less than $10? What is this nonsense??

There's also spacing and font size to consider; one YA page doesn't always translate to one "adult" page.

And you know those other three books, Weapon of a Jedi, Moving Target, and Smuggler's Run? Also hardcovers, clocking in at between 192 and 240 pages each. These are not insubstantial books, at all. Best of all, $6.21 USD each on Amazon.

Unfortunately, shipping costs would annihiliate any cost saving for me on the Amazon.com prices.

Let's face it, should it be so no one is likely to go: "560 pages? Ba-astards." If anything, it'll set it apart instantly from every other SW book going.

That would be awesome if it's actually 560 pages.

A dreadful thought occurred to me. My bookshelf is officially out of space. It means I'll soon have to start choosing which Legends books I'm going to remove from the shelves to make room for the new stuff. [face_nail_biting]

Of course, I'll start with post-ROTJ. It'll be easy enough to push those things away in some crevice or alternate shelf space somewhere. Crucible goes first. :p

Or just do what I did- get a second bookshelf. And then a third.

    And then a fourth.

Or, move the LotF and FotJ stuff to the top shelf like I have done!

Yep. Here's my problem: I share a room with my brother who is a book collector, and he already has four bookshelves of his own to my measly single one, and they're all full of books. There's no more room for bookshelves in our room! :p

Clearly you need to take over a bookshelf.

You need to stack books on your books, so you can stack on your stacks. The more stacks you have, the better you utilize your limited space.

If you look at other YA books in the "romance" genre, this page count isn't that unbelievable. Quick research shows they're regularly near 400 pages and one of the Twilight books was 750 pages or so. Add in margins and font size and it could vary wildly which is why Claudia Gray seemed surprised as well.

I've already got a plan in motion. My bed's headboard has a built-in shelf so I'll probably begin transferring books over there. Then once it gets so bad I have no room left there, I'll tell my brother he has to give me at least one shelf. :p

How did this Aftermath thread turn into a Lost Stars thread?
The author of Lost Stars picked which actors she envisioned for the main characters Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell. These are the pictures she included.
"A young Gugu Mbatha Raw is my mental casting for Ciena Ree."

"A young Sam Reid is my personal mental image of Thane Kyrell. (Yes, the movie "Belle" played a big part in my envisioning these characters!)"

I think it's interesting how many new canon characters have names so similar to Rey (the lead in Episode VII). We've got Rae Sloane, Kes and Shara Bey, and Ciena Ree. It could be a huge coincidence. Or it could mean they're trying to subconsciously nudge us and say is she related to one of these characters? Unlikely, I admit, but could it really be that big of a coincidence? [face_thinking]
