No, it's just acknowledgement that Vader's first appearance on screen was as a suited up villain in the original Star Wars

I don't even know why this is coming up or what you are reading into it.

I don't know what they mean by it. Vader isn't a fully formed character when we "first" meet him in ANH. It takes the following 5 movies to get that full form.

Possibly they are referring to Kylo in the aspect of a figure of villainy. In that sense Vader was not as a overall character fully formed but in the singular aspect of a villain ie. he didn't change that much (though actually he did quite a bit but the aspects of ANH vs TESB Vader have been smoothed over) so he was formed.

Kylo may transform from one look in TFA to another in VIII and then IX so that he won't remain the same from movie to movie like Vader.

Whether you are a prequels fan or not, we do meet Darth Vader fully formed. Star Wars came out in 1977. TPM 1999.

    Totally irrelevant.

Vader as character simply is not "fully formed" in ANH except as a side-kick villain.

He keeps changing in each movie then we see his journey which transforms everything and gives us the final formation in ROTS.

Kylo also seems a side-kick but even in terms of ANH Vader he's not a total villain as he hesitates and questions his actions which Vader in ANH is not doing.

Did I read that right, Ren has an apprentice?

Its Jacen Solo in a totally fresh and unique way, or could be. If it turns out to be the son of Han and Leia then Kasdan has reinvented the wheel, so to speak.

Darth Vader is who he is. Luke's presence is the "death" of Vader. The rebirth of Anakin Skywalker. The prequels are pretty irrelevant to this conversation.

We meet Darth Vader, already suited up and as Sheev's personal enforcer in ANH. Sure his connection to Luke and all that comes later, but the first part is probably what they're referring to.

How can you possibly tell from that shot? In the first trailer he is "one handed pouncing around".

Because in that image, that's what it looks like. I prefer that image to many of the promo type shots released from the PT. Just my opinion - to be fair there are sone cool stills you could take from the PT duels - but I love this particular image. That's all.

The EW articles call him "Vader obsessive" (so that's confirmed), and they say he knows what's come before, along with how that's a big part of the story.

    That's so exciting!!!

He does look very Templar Knight in that robe. So bulky around the midriff though, maybe we'll see a return to the slower, heavier fights of the OT which would be pretty cool.

One of the things that I think makes the original trilogy so amazing is that Darth Vader was so compelling as a bad guy. Obviously, Luke was the hero and Han was the snarky scoundrel, but Darth Vader was the crux on which everything balanced on.

I think JJ recognized that without a compelling bad guy, you're not going to have a successful star wars movie. I think that is one of the reasons why the PT wasn't as well received. While Palps was a bad guy, he didn't have the personal, in your face menace that Vader had. Dooku and Maul were poor substitutes. Perhaps, JJ got it right with his interpretation of Kylo Ren.

You're missing the point completely. Saying "Vader arrived fully formed" when introduced on screen, in contrast to Kylo Ren does not mean that the audience watching are privy to Vader's entire personality, motivations, power and character from the start: it simply means that with Vader's first appearance, he is "in situ" as a powerful bad guy who works as an enforcer for the Empire and uses the Force. His dynamic evolves over the film's, of course, but the point is that in ANH Vader arrives as a character who is already the baddie, and already has his place.
The contrast with Kylo Ren seems to be that Kylo is looking for something, and isnt yet in the position he would like to be in - obviously Vader isn't either, but that wasn't important to ANH - in ANH he was simply the bad guy, and that's all that is meant by fully formed - he wasn't on his way to being a bad guy.

"...allied with the First Order..." (quote from EW) is very interesting too.

Allied with - not 'one of' - but allied with.

    Interesting.

I like what EW had to say about Kylo:

"In 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, Luke Skywalker was a nobody — a farm boy who comes from nothing and takes on the whole Empire. Looking at Kylo Ren, staggering through the woods with this janky, homemade lightsaber, its easy to wonder: Is this an inverse of Luke? Is Ren perhaps not the hero but the villain who comes from no means, who rises from obscurity and yet still manages to cause tremendous upheaval?"

    Pretty cool idea...

Yes, I liked that too. Kylo Ren is definitely becoming more interesting every time we see or learn more about him.

I think this is going to be pretty important going forward. And, like Luke eventually had to confront Vader in Episode V, I think Kylo will confront Luke in Episode VIII and that'll be a pretty big fight. Personal fan fic, obviously, but I think this pattern could hold up. (The Light Side still needs to triumph in 9, though, somehow)

Regarding the name, I think the theory of the "Kylo" name being a hybrid of Skywalker-Solo holds up pretty well under this. Kylo is his personal name, with Ren being the title bestowed on him. Kylo probably isn't his birth name, but merely a reference to his former life.
