Yes, totally. I honestly don't understand the people who complain that Han and Leia aren't happily married with white picket space-fence and that Luke doesn't have a vibrant Jedi order with 200 jedis who roam the grounds of the Yavin IV Community College for Force Studies.

Yep, these are scenarios we have debated here several times. Something happens during that interrogation that is probably key to Rey´s character.

The problem though is - if we go by what MSW has dropped as far as the events leading up to TFA - Han's backstory right before TFA is that he still has the Falcon and thugs are after him and his ship. Unless you're suggesting that Han took it back from Kylo?

I don´t think Rey is familiar with the Falcon. At least based on what MSW has said. And I believe that pic makes it very clear why she looks sad.

Because the Falcn doesn't get Sirius XM radio? Or maybe she is looking down at the dashboard wondering why the "Door is ajar" icon is lit and thinking "Sniff, the last time that came on was because dad's ankle was stuck in it, sniff".

Rey: What does this button do?

Chewie: Don't push that! It's the-

    (She pushes it)

    Chewie (muffled): Origami button.

I'm still hoping Rey is Luke's kid... or at least one of the leads. I like Han and all, but it seems like Luke is getting pushed into the background so they can obsess over Han.

I really don't think Rey is Han's daughter. But we are led to believe she is. Daisy laughs at the prospect in interviews to swerve us all in that direction so that when it is revealed who she really is - we will then be surprised.

I see no emotional payoff for Rey's meeting with Luke at the end of the film unless she is his daughter. So she gets to give a saber to the long lost Jedi master. So what.

There has to be a greater connection between the two then simply student-teacher or niece-uncle. And that is father-daughter.

I think both possibilities are still likely. She could just as easily be Luke's daughter.

Unless they play up the fact that she has a legacy to live up to. From the rumors it sounds like she is kind of reluctant to step down the path of the jedi, deciding to go meet Luke is a symbol of her accepting that destiny.

Tell that to Poe Dameron, dude's not even on the poster man.

Anyways, it's very telling that Kasdan is writing TFA and the Solo spinoff but seems to have no involvement at all with Episode 8 or 9 (which seems to be Rian Johnson's undertaking mostly).

Luke accepted the Jedi path/destiny and by doing so also accepted/embraced his "dead Jedi father", Rey could be the opposite of Luke rejects the jedi path/destiny also means she rejects her father.[face_clown]

That most of his interest is in Solo. Once Han's dead and out of the picture, he bounces out of there and his next project is.. a Solo spinoff.

Yeah, that's probably why he didn't work on the prequels either, even though GL asked him to.

Well if she is accepting her destiny to become a Jedi, meeting the Jedi master, who will train here, is the emotional payoff. Plus, for the audiences, it is the return of Luke.

That would've worked perfectly if they didn't already tell us and advertise that Luke is in this movie/ST. Like if the audience genuinely doesn't know whether Luke will be found, then I see the ending being a great payoff and surprise. But since they're already shouting to the world that Luke is in this movie, by the time this movie is in its last 10 minutes, we're all just gonna be like .. um ok where is he already we know he's in this movie.

Maybe VII ends with Rey helping Luke test his new teleportation device, and VIII is all about Luke's mishap with the machine causing him to slowly transform into a mynok?

We know Mark is in the movie, but we and general non-spoiler audiences don't know if Luke is still alive. He could only play a force ghost. What if the opening crawl beginns with something like Luke Skywalker is supposed to be dead after an attack? Then finding him alive would be a surprise/pay off. ;)

I still can't get over the apparent "the galaxy is small" situation, though. If Rey is Han and Leia's daughter we get this scenario: Leia sends a pilot to the planet where her daughter happens to live to retrieve a saber that belongs to her brother and thereby Rey's uncle, Luke. Rey happens to end up with the droid that has the saber and flees the planet on the ship that happens to be her father's and happens to meet that father not long afterwards. Quite a few coincidences.

The acceptance of Luke's time in the movie doesn't hinge on some storyline that he is Rey's father. That wouldn't make people in the audience nod their heads and think, oh, so him not being in the movie makes sense. If anything, IF Luke is Rey's father, I think he would be expected to be in the film more. But Rey finally accepting her destiny to become a jedi and Luke getting his second chance at his order after a previous failure or tragedy makes sense that the two come together at the end. It's what the entire movie has been building up to.

At least it would be a secret worth keeping for the ending. Otherwise it's just the audience already knowing this guy will appear because you already freaking advertised it. It's like when you see a character "die" but then you remember that in the trailers there were some more scenes with that guy that you haven't seen yet.. so clearly you're now just expecting this guy to come back.
