Agreed on more Jedi! Big draws and this is meant to be the age of the Jedi and the old Republic, so yes, more Jedi more often and have them as leads more often.

Tbh, I think you shouldn't necessarily not display a character more often just because they happen to be attractive. I think each character has their own trait - e.g. Yoda wise and in ESB a little eccentric perhaps, Obi Wan kind and maybe better at relating to non Jedi like emotions etc, Mace being a badass and a Jedi of action, Anakin wearing his heart on his chest, Shaak Ti calming and collected, Vos gritty, Dooku slick and sophisticated etc. Aayla has that cheeky/energetic exuberance about her and happens to be a young attractive Twilek as well. I think she is a fun character and also it would be nice to have a female lead like her more often, certainly at least appearing more often. We didn't really get to see her lead in battles or be posted places that much, though when we did, she was awesome right?

Agreed on the storyline of Aayla being undercover as correct, canonically Twileks were seen as desirable and often exploited in Galactic slavery, something which the Jedi and supposedly Republic were fighting against. It would have been opportune to make use of her character in the Zygeria arc or maybe a different story. Not just because she is hot or scantily clad, but because in the context it works, and she is a female Twilek Jedi. I think Shaak Ti was Zabrak by the way, not Twilek.

Aayla's current outfit, maybe she likes it, and if we like it, everyone wins right? In terms of her being a skimpily dressed slave girl in the context of the story, that would work like Slave Leia. I'm not sure about having a Spartacus Obi Wan given it doesn't fit his character specifically, but maybe a different Jedi could pull it off. That's why we needed to see more Jedi with different personalities! I do think just seeing more Jedi and non Jedi relationships or interactions like we have with Anakin and Padme, Anakin and Yularen, Dex and Obi Wan, Lux and Asoka and Yoda and Bail would be good. Using Shaak Ti or Aayla would be ideal. That's what I meant about a planetary ruler or general interacting with Aayla - it would be an interesting dynamic and could be explored. Not just with her, you could do it with other Jedi too. What do you think?

Tbh we needed more Aayla and Jedi in general!

I personally think Aayla is an energetic, cheeky and upbeat character in general. I think she was a good addition and it's good to see some variety amongst all the thousands of Jedi. Yes she was attractive, but tbh she was awesome in the episodes we saw. It's also cool to see a Twi'lek Jedi in the same way it is interesting to see Yoda and other species etc. It is also nice to see a female role model or lead.

Having Aayla appear more often (and indeed all the other Jedi appear more often such as Shaak Ti, Cin Drallig, Plo Koon, Mace etc) would be good in the context of the Clone Wars and the era that we are in - the age of the Jedi and the Old Republic.

As for Aayla's outfit, maybe she likes dressing like that? Don't see a problem with it. Sure she is attractive, but that isn't her only trait. The story idea of her being undercover was something similar to the Zygeria arc about Galactic Slavery - being a Twi'lek and attractive and a Jedi would fit. The separate idea of another story of Aayla and her interaction with a planetary ruler - would be to see more interaction between citizens and Jedi - much like Padme and Anakin, or Yularen and Skywalker or Dex and Obi Wan, or Lux and Asoka.

It would nice to see more Jedi in general. Since the thread is about Aayla, the focus was about how it would have been nice to see her more often and also as a lead more often.

Perhaps the problem is some of the posts come across as more "let's see more of the sexy Aayla." The post above doesn't, actually. To date, little has been said on "energetic, cheeky and upbeat" or the need for more female Jedi up front and center (and unintentionally that is a bad pun that I'll leave in place, but that was not my intention).

Actually, energetic, cheeky, and upbeat sounds like Ahsoka...no wonder Aayla didn't get much time: competition. :D

And no, nothing wrong with attractive Jedi. But it's the least important characteristic and with Aayla, usually the most important one. That's the difference.

Well I don't think there would be a problem with let's see more of the sexy Aayla in the context of the overall story and Clone Wars. She can't help being sexy! :D

Aayla as a character is cheeky, upbeat, energetic, skilled and talented. She is also kind and compassionate. She also happens to be rather attractive and seductive/sultry yes.

I think seeing her interact with a character or two in a flirtatious way would be interesting and fitting. The thing is she is young, but also old enough to make it believable since she is a Jedi Knight, but also of age. Asoka is a Padawan.

I think Aayla is one of many attractive Jedi, maybe she is the most and certainly talented in that respect. But it is not her sole trait. Part of the problem is we don't see her enough!! That's why I say they should show us more Jedi, expand on them and have them leading roles. And more Aayla!

Having Aayla either undercover as a slave or separately interacting in a friendly or flirty manner with a non Jedi would be brilliant. That interaction could be genuine or the interest could be her using the Force to seduce someone for information. We've seen that type of mind trick by a male, or people at that Coruscanti nightclub eyeing Anakin in AOTC, and even such behavior exhibited by people like Troi in Trek. Seeing the difference between her being genuine and cheeky in that flirty/Twilek way as herself and the difference when she is being seductive undercover would be an interesting dynamic too.

Yes, that would be cool! I think somewhere whether it was Wookienet or comicvine which said that Aayla was known to be kind and caring and occasionally used the Force to seduce for information??

It would also make canonical sense for Aayla to be undercover as a slave girl or would fit her personality if she was a General leading the defence of a Republic world and the local planetary ruler was smitten with her. I.e. a Lux/Satine equivalent for Aayla.

I want to know DarthTalonx why do you like her as a character because in the movies she does not even talk and she almost never appears in TCW.

Base this off of current canon alone and does she even have a personality? or anything?

The movies don't give her a set personality but she's the only character of nominal importance that is in the same generation as Anakin, a young Jedi Knight, still learning to be a master. There's plenty of potential in a Jedi that is neither as bad at the job as Anakin (or Vos), nor has fully embraced the prequel Jedi Council's ways beyond being sexy.

My friend just returned the Darkness story about Quinlan Vos, Secura, and Volfe Karkko. She was extremely disgusted with Karkko, as you can imagine. Aayla Secura is everything you said, Darth Talonx. Many Star Wars women are sexed up because many of the Star Wars fans and readers are males, but one of my female activist friends said she liked it and said it should be embraced. I wish Aayla was in more TCW stories. She had her own interpretation of the Jedi Code, and she was a badposterior fighter, as well. I think Plo Koon was in it enough, but we needed more of Aayla Secura and Shaak Ti than we got in Season Six. As to Aayla's outfit, I assume she was expressing herself and differentiating herself from other Jedi. (Maybe Satele Shan dressed similarly for the same reason. Girls do like it for more reasons than many would think, and it is fun.) It would have been great for her to appear with Anakin and Ahsoka at least thrice. Ahsoka could have learned something from her, much like she did with Plo Koon, Tera Sinube, and others.

Exactly, well said!! Same generation which gives us a new perspective other than the Old Guard so to speak. She is young, energetic, fun and cheeky. Yes she is attractive, but she is more than that. Wish we had more appearances of her in TCW. She clearly was present in the films in key meetings etc. Liked her fighting style and personality in TCW. So much potential for a female Twilek Jedi.

Wish we had seen more female leads like her more often.

She was different and showed us the variety of the Jedi Order - a young female Jedi Knight who was also a Twilek. Yes she was attractive, but she also was talented in the Force, a cheeky, energetic and outgoing person. She was important enough to appear in AOTC and ROTS in the Order 66 scene and in the Jedi Council meetings. In TCW, she had brief appearances but was awesome in all of them.

Overall she represents the youth of the order as well, providing another perspective on those like Anakin etc compared to the old Guard of Yoda, Mace etc.

She was a fun Jedi and popular character. Yes she was attractive, but that's only one of her many attributes. Why didn't we see more of her in TCW??

AGREED!!! Precisely right! Spot on! Aayla was an awesome fun, cheeky, energetic, outgoing Jedi Knight. Yes she was attractive and a little flirty, but that's who she was. She seemed to dress for comfort. We definitely needed more of her and Shaak Ti than what we got. It's nice to see female leads like those as well. Aayla being a younger generation like Anakin provided a different perspective on the Jedi Order as well other than the Old Guard of Yoda, Mace and Obi Wan.

It also showed us the variety in the Jedi and someone who was a little free and exuberant. I think her character was popular with girls and guys alike and certainly boosted Star Wars. Even Lucas put her in the films! I wish she would have more of a lead and more episodes in TCW. There are so many opportunities to utilize a Jedi Twilek undercover or even to explore Jedi non Jedi interactions or relationships much like we saw with Padme and Anakin, Yularen and Anakin and Lux and Asoka. Imagine people like that encountering Aayla. And her being attractive is just one of her many talents and attributes that could also be used in the story.

It was cool to have a female role model too. And Princess Leia on Tatooine became iconic, so has Aayla in her own way. She was an awesome cheeky character who was a great Jedi and fun female. I liked her fighting style too and the accent and CGI Aayla in TCW was awesome. Why did we not see more of her?!!

Attractive is not a talent, just saying.

And "awesome"? We haven't seen enough of her to draw that conclusion (well, obviously you have, so I'm saying IMHO).

But more female Jedi from time to time? Yup, I'm all for that. More Luminara, Shaak Ti, Depa, too.

DarthTalonx your posts are seriously beginning to creep me out.

You go on and on about how much you love Aayla's character and how much potential she has (to be used as a scantily-dressed slave a la Leia in RotJ, of course, though you stop short of outright saying that's what you want), but there seems to be a little more going on than that. Nearly every paragraph you make references her attractiveness or outfit, everything else just comes off as superficial fluff to make it seems as though you care about more than just her looks.

If her body and dress is all you really care about, then why not just admit it, drop the facade and take it elsewhere to a place where that kind of "discussion" is more appropriate?

Darth Talonx only wants another character to have more development and to interact with other characters. There is no need to cyber-bully her. It's her opinion. So what? Why blast her for it? You have a different opinion. That's great. No need to condemn her for hers.

Well, even if I disagree with or don't understand someone, I don't come at them like that. I only write something harsh if someone verbally attacks and debases me. I don't care if it happens on one of these threads or in the Community section. I find it incredibly disrespectful and inappropriate for an individual to come at me like that, and I didn't want it happening to anyone else. At any rate, thank you, Shadow Emperor, for saying that. It's just good to agree to disagree with others. Besides, we're arguing about fiction here. It shouldn't be a big deal. Just my take on it.

In "Darkness", which was effectively her introductory story, yes. However, she was undercover investigating a new drug cartel that was combining spices from Ryloth and Tatooine. She went after the Ryloth angle while Quinlan went after the Tatooine one (which is why he's on Tatooine in his TPM cameo).

The early direction of TCW was originally much more heavily influenced by, and in-line with, the Dark Horse Comics storylines and this is still apparent in the first season. Other elements were based on them (Ventress's history with Anakin & Kenobi, Rex is Alpha but Lucas made them change his name, Durge was to appear at one point, etc)

Vos was originally supposed to debut in "Bombad Jedi" (working from the shadows to make Jar Jar seem like he was a Jedi) but was cut from the production because, that early on in the show's development, they didn't have the budget for a new character model for the episode.

Aayla then debuted a few episodes later in the season- and was likely intended to be, in conjunction with the original Bombad appearance, a prelude to storylines with both characters dealing with threads from the DH comics (which is why Aayla still has the one ambiguously ominous line about her master, referring to Vos's brushes with the dark side in the comics).

Soon after that, Lucas began to be more personally involved with the production and overall direction of the series, and so the focus began to shift away from those initial ideals. Obviously they eventually came around to using Vos (given his namedrop and animatic-stage Order 66 cameo in ROTS, it was probably inevtiable) and, as you point out, planned to use him more prominently in the coming season as Dark Disciple shows.

As the events of the series moved closer and closer to the events of ROTS, it's a pretty safe bet that we'd have gotten at least one more episode with each of them building up to their roles (and those of the other Order 66 Jedi) in ROTS.

Yea, I read that John Ostrander was considered as a writer for the TCW but they wanted cartoon writers. He was to have wrote a Vos episode or arc.

The Kamino invasions were very similar to what occurred in the Republic comic but with the typical TCW spin/take.

In the episode we saw her, she was pretty bad ass. And cheeky. When she was fighting the droids, or discussing the Force or saving the clones, she was pretty talented. And she must be fairly important, as we saw glimpses of her in senior meetings. She was certainly a powerful Jedi and was featured in the Order 66 scene. I don't think her being attractive takes away from any of that at all. I thought she was a great new addition, especially since we had seen her in the films. It seemed like we could have seen more of Aayla. She was fun. We saw a little bit more of Luminara, but not enough after Geonosis (and not enough Aayla after those two episodes). Yes indeed, more Shaak Ti (she only appeared twice didn't she?), more Depa and more Adia Gallia (again a Council member who was a little different to Kenobi etc and a female). It seemed like we didn't see many female Jedi in action.

More Jedi in general would have been nice.

    Thanks! Well said.

As I said, I believe Aayla was a great character who could have been featured more, utilized better (given her species and she was a female) and interact with others to explore her and the Jedi in general. Aayla wasn't just eye candy, she was so much more. She was a great Jedi and showed so in the way she spoke and how she fought. It was cool to see lots of different Jedi. It would have been nice to see more of them like Adia Gallia, Shaak Ti, Aayla, Luminara, Serra Keto, etc more often.

Even to see Jedi like Ima Gun Di or Vos etc, more often would be awesome.

    Well said SateleNovelist11 and thanks!

Ah right. See now that's something they could have looked into in TCW. I thought they introduced Aayla very well, but we saw little of her after that. To think of the potential of such a character. Given she is a female Jedi, it would have been nice to have her lead or interact with other Jedi and galactic citizenry more often. It would also have been nice to see more Shaak Ti, Adia Gallia, Serra Keto etc.

I thought the Aayla going undercover would have been interesting. The Zygeria arc could have utilized her being a Twilek as well. In terms of her being noticeable/attractive, we could have had some interaction between her and citizens.

I think it was cool to see more Jedi as we saw a different personality and Force user each time. Each Jedi had their own attributes and way of serving the Force in their own style.

Zygeria could have used Aayla or someone else in it. However, it was rather dark, given its themes. But it was all about how Anakin couldn't get over being a slave and it foreshadowed his later service to Sidious. I think that arc under-utilized Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. But I guess that's the only thing that frustrates me about TCW. A lot of those stories could go more in depth with certain characters and be more for older audiences if they were novels or movies. Just my take.

Gosh, I'm glad I missed that graphic thing that was posted. Good thing I was really busy for a while.

DHC's Editor contributed to the Ryloth arc (the middle episode making a lot more sense if one considers the original, tidal-locked, Ryloth creating a narrower line of attack for the landing craft).
