Actually, I'm pretty sure R2 is with Leia in the present day events of TFA. Doesn't the shotlist say that Luke leaves R2 behind during the flashback sequence? If that's the case, then I'd wager that Poe's getting R2 (since he's basically Leia's surrogate son) and Rey's getting BB-8.

That is correct. R2-D2 is with Leia after Luke goes off to be alone. But I don't see how the droid being described as Poe's would be replaced by a relic. You normally wouldn't put an old part into a new car and I don't see any indication in TFA that taking BB-8 away from Poe would benefit his Black Squadron. From a practical standpoint it doesn't make sense. People bring up that Rey and BB-8 bonded. Well what about BB-8 and Poe? Do they just not click? Presumably Poe has spent more time with BB-8 than Rey has in her three days with the droid. Not to mention Poe spends even less time with Rey. He actually doesn't spend any time with her until the end.

My best explanation is that when Poe sees her for the first time, sparks fly. Finn tells Rey about Poe and then it switches to Finn telling Poe about Rey until the two meet at the end. So then maybe instead of giving her flowers he gives her a droid. I suppose that's the best gift you can give a mechanic.


edit: And yes now I'm writing a non obvious love story to make this work.

 

Leia has Artoo and Threepio. We've known this for awhile.

As IMDb is the movie version of Wikipedia, my guess is this was a troll edit. There is no way a 6 foot tall actor is playing an Ewok.

 

Ewok is codename for Jabba The Hutt's cousin's best friend's roomate at Hutt University.

Poor guy was just so excited about his groundbreaking theories on the possible resurrection of Darth Vader and masterful dissection of "obscure lines" like the Sidious-on-Plagueis one. So somebody tell me: could he not endure the 2 minutes it would take to scan his magnum opus for the occasional lack of punctuation [unrelated: ] or at least find someone over the age of 11 who was caught so off-guard that they couldn't come up with a believable reason for not having time to help him with a proofread?

Despite those (admittedly hypercritical) nits I saw fit to pick, the insight on display here was distinctive of that level of intellect commensurate with the independent consultants for geopolitical think-tanks, and may have effectively brought into question the universally accepted meanings of such ubiquitous terms as "astonishing," "monumental" and "wickyd-sykk."

 

We're talking about the end of TFA and the new report about Episode 8.

Actually, upon further reading regarding the droid being with Luke and Rey, I'm guessing it's BB-8 since he's with her on the Falcon beforehand.

I think Artoo and Threepio are going to stay with Leia.
