Saga You Pick the Steel Box Blu-Ray Covers

As some of you are aware, they are releasing these beautiful Steel Box covers for the new Blu-Ray release (Nov 10th).



While recently I was listening to the excellent Jedi Council podcast and they has some critiques of the new covers that I can not argue with.

-The lop sided Dark Side nature of these covers (5 to 1)
-The lack of Luke Skywalker (or any of the Big 3)
-All of these important characters in the Saga and they have a random Stormtrooper.

So for fun I was thinking of who I would put on these covers (in the same style) and was also interested in hearing what other peoples opinions are.

Here is my list:

TPM - Dark Maul (He was noteworthy to deserve this spot)
AoTC - Yoda (Had his first fight and said the classic "Begun the Clone Wars has"
RoTS - Palapatine (The title is Revenge of the Sith, feel like a Sith should be on it)
ANH - Obi-Wan (Important character in the Sage should be on a cover)
ESB - Darth Vader (Empire Stikes Back! Plus his most famous line is in this movie)
RoTJ - Luke Skywalker (Important characters, plus like RoTS, I feel like a Jedi deserves the cover)

I think Palpatine looks like Electro from the Amazing Spider Man 2. He's just so blue in that image!

Also, I think the ones for IV and V should be switched round.

 

I don't think any of the main heroes should be on the covers. A villain or non-human / masked character fits best for me. It sounds weird but if they did this for the HP franchise, I don't think I'd want Harry Potter on any of the covers BECAUSE he is the main character. It makes no sense but I usually don't anyways.

The Stormtrooper is the strangest choice to me. I think that should be Boba Fett.

I understand the questioning of the covers but I like how they used different characters this time around. It doesn't always have to be the main 3

 

I agree I'd have chosen others. These would've been mine:

TPM: Darth Maul, as shown.
AOTC: Yoda, as shown.
ROTS: Either Sidious or Anakin-preferably Anakin, since that's who the entire plot focuses on.
ANH: Obi-Wan (this one is tough for me, since the "obvious" ones seem obvious to be shown elsewhere as well.)
ESB: Darth Vader, for obvious reasons.
ROTJ: Luke, for obvious reasons.

That said, I do enjoy the look of them. But for the same issues I had picking my own preferences for a couple, I could see why they might have did it the way they did-looks like they went with supporting characters for most of them, instead of the main ones-otherwise many of them would be the same. At any rate, this is why I'd prefer to see multiple characters in the image.

 

I'd like to see a literal interpretation of the titles:

TPM: Maul (the Sith are the Phantom Menace, after all)
AOTC: Clone Trooper/Jango Fett
ROTS: Palpatine
ANH: Luke
ESB: Vader
ROTJ: Yoda

 

I wondered about the Stormtrooper too. But apparently that's the face they like to use, as my old pre-special edition VHS tape of Empire has the Stormtrooper as well.

 

Weird. I mean, it's just a random troop.

 

What's weirder to me is that they used Yoda for ROTJ even though he can't have more than 7 minutes of screen time in that film.

Well at least THESE are mostly explainable choices. Also, the Stormtrooper kinda looks like a Rebels one, as in it's very cartoony compared to the others.

I agree with this list. And Darkpine is right. Sidious looks like Electro. So blue!

 

I've actually thought of this before. I think it's important to remember which characters are iconic enough to be on the cover and in which movie do they play the biggest roles. I would say put the three heroes from each trilogy on the covers:

1. Obi-wan
2. Padme
3. Anakin
4. Leia
5. Han
6. Luke

 

Replace Yoda with Dooku

Replace random stormtrooper with Boba

That's all I'd do, I think

Might make more sense if they replaced Yoda with a clonetrooper, which would be more appropriate in my opinion.

Someone posted those VHS Covers....man I remember those were the first editions of the films I had.

I think my parents still have them laying around in their attic.
