ST Let's talk about trailer #3...!

For your safety (and everyone else's, really) you may as well just get in the panic room now.

 

I would be in heaven if we got a teaser for the trailer coming during Rebels. Just a 5-10 second promo.

 

Given the speed of this thread, can someone explain to me how the 15th/19th have become such concrete dates for the next trailer? There's a lot of anxiety in this thread… Correction, there's a lot more anxiety in this thread than usual, and I'm curious as to why these dates are being seen as more reliable than the past dozen times we were supposed to be getting a trailer and got diddly squat.

 

Seems to me that if they wanted to boost viewership of the Rebels season premiere, they already would have made some kind of announcement about watching it.

At this point it would be nothing but a nice bonus for the show's existing loyal audience. "You've shown up for the new season: here's a treat."

I don't think it's going to happen.

Also, Bridge of Spies would be an extremely odd choice for introducing trailer 3, unless what I've been arguing in the box office thread is actually true: Disney is primarily marketing TFA to men over the age of 35. Men over the age of 35 is exactly the demographic that will show up for Bridge of Spies.

 

Manabyte is betting on the 16th. SW7news posted 16th, I think (or 19th, I forget which date they said). Basically, these rumors are stemming from theater chains saying they're getting a package from Disney this weekend.

 

Sorry my panic room is still under construction after it got destroyed in "The Great D23 disappointment of 2013"

 

On Thanksgiving Day the day before Black Friday.

This would help drive toy sales.

Also let's families enjoy the trailer together. (generational family saga)

Seems pretty flimsy evidence for getting hyped up over Star Wars stuff, given that The Good Dinosaur is getting a marketing push this week ahead of next month's release.

• Jordan from Cinelinx dropped that the trailer was done and circulating through Disney.
• Star Wars 7 News dropped an actual date of October 19th sourced from a reader who spoke with his theater manager. Secondary "you're on the right track" source from someone at Lucasfilm.
• Noah at Star Wars Time dropped dates October 15-19 after talking with his theater manager.
• Jeremy dropped the date of October 16th with a possible tease on October 15th during Rebels. His source is not in the SW world but necessary for teaser release.
• JoeSchmo's dropped the 19th date (not sure if their sources or just repeating what SW7 dropped).

No one else has carried the story nor has Breznican or anyone else confirm or deny.

I think that is everything, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanksgiving ...... just keep repeating it folks and it sounds better each time, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Football,Turkey, more Football, Pie, hang out with family in front of fire listening to Christmas music and then the next day/Black Friday a lot of Americans do things like go to the movies which would be a great time to go to the movies and watch a trailer and being that everybody is going to be home it will be a great time to debut the trailer on-line......

 

It makes the most sense:

1. Promote the movie on the biggest moviegoing weekend of the year until TFA is released.
2. Promote the movie when people first start thinking about the year end holiday season
3. Promote Star Wars merchandise sales.

 

Now, I'm going to be devil's advocate for my own argument and say:

The fact that they haven't yet said anything yet about Rebels and a potential tease for the upcoming trailer could mean I'm totally off base here. If there was going to be such an announcement, why wouldn't they have made it earlier, perhaps at NYCC, where there was a big Rebels presence? As it is, we're down to the last 24 hrs before the premier -- probably inside the window where that kind of announcement could really build some advance hype.

Also arguing against any kind of Rebels tie-in is this dynamic whereby Disney seems to be playing on OT nostalgia a bit (at least for the general/casual audience), and maybe the marketing team is concerned about associating TFA too strongly with something a casual fan or average moviegoer might think was a kids' show?

So, it's kind of a head-scratcher. The fact that we're not hearing anything (yet) makes me think that the trailer may drop later in this window (Monday-ish), if at all.

That's the beauty of marketing to a fan base. Even not giving us any information at all makes us more excited to see the movie.
