I wonder how this weapon can be destroyed?

It isn't a space station it is actually a moon\planet.

I'm really not so sure that it is. MSW stated that the weapon is in two parts, hence the two attacks - one in space and one on the surface. What we have seen of Starkiller Base from the ground and from the air, it appears to be a Fortress with a trench running in front of it. There appears to be an underground component to it as well. Then we have the object in the poster which does not appear to be planet sized at all. I'm guessing that whatever it is that powers the weapon runs along that trench (the red strip that Kylo is watching in the trailer) and is then collected and shot up to the orbital station which I think is a Hyperspace Gateway.

What we have seen of the ground installation does not match with the object in the poster, to suggest that the planet splits and turns into the "poster object" seems at odds with the visual evidence we have.

To destroy it you have to disable the orbital launcher and then destroy the ground installation.

I thought about that too. Maybe the weapon can deliver its payload via hyperspace.

I think it will be used against Endor. Endor Holocaust canonized. Curtis Saxton will be happy not to have to think about the Ewok Survival Issue anymore. At least for the time after TFA. Lol

    probably this :p

Infinity gate can be used as superweapon and to create infinity waves which can remove a planet into infinity. I can see JJ doing something like that. [face_dancing] Plus the guy above is probably Snoke and Tython is mentioned as well. [face_dancing]

That means the weapon is powered by the force... Could it be based on celestial or rakatan technology?

I remember an early rumor that Luke is caught/trapped somewhere nearby and in case he would use his power, the weapon would be fired. The first order want Luke to use his power for the weapon and only someone less powerful can deactivate/destroy the weapon. Something like that was written some time ago. ;)

So if he uses his Jedi powers to save his friends he powers up the first order weapon. That would be pretty evil.

Whatever is on the official poster there certainly looks like a planet to me. Or at least a moon. With the weapon, a giant laser of some kind, built into it. A planet/Death Star hybrid. I'm guessing it's the Death Star concept, but Starkiller uses power from the planet's core to create an even greater weapon that can destroy a sun and therefore an entire solar system.

If the planet itself is the weapon (or if the weapon is built into the planet), then how is the weapon a threat to anyone who isn't in the vicinity of the planet, given that the "StarKiller Base planet" obviously can't travel through hyperspace.

The Death Star could travel through hyperspace, and could theoretically go from star system to star system destroying as many planets as the Empire wanted.

But a planet itself can't travel through hyperspace. So, apart from destroying the Sun in it's own system (which would be suicide for the First Order) what other Sun's could it destroy, and how?

Er, I'm sure there's an explanation for how it can destroy stars and planets elsewhere.

And what would that explantion be? Surely a planet can't travel through hyperspace - that's just stupid.

I don't know. Something suitably pseudo-scientific, in the best Star Wars tradition. Like Harrison Ford said to Oscar Isaac, "It's fake! Just make it up."

Could it perhaps open wormholes into which it fires its primary weapon to destroy far away targets?
