The MPAA issued their CARA bulletin today, and updated FilmRatings.com to reflect that The Force Awakens has been rated PG-13 for "sci-fi action violence"

I can't believe JJ let them see the film.

 

What I expected. The Disney-Marvel (not the Fox-Marvel movies) and Pirates of The Caribbean movies are always PG-13 (I believe), and are generally family friendly

Generally family friendly. Well so far the only star wars movie to get PG-13 was Revenge of the Sith.

I bet this movie wont be as violent as revenge of the sith. The ratings are watered down now a days.

 

And that movie showed a man being burned alive. I wonder what earned the PG-13 over PG.

Another thing to consider is that PG-13 is the general standard for film ratings these days. This is really irrelevant.

 

It's always been there. Hell and damn were in ANH, hell in ESB

sizziano, yes, some people do, but it's not exactly what the original poster meant.

Personally, I'm disappointed they didn't try to bring the PG blockbuster back, help encourage the parents of the younger generations. I mean, nobody's going to go "I'm not seeing the new Star Wars movie because it's not PG-13." Because it's Star Wars , and five of the six were PG already. But there are definitely people who won't be going because of the PG-13 rating. I'm just not sure it's necessary.
Then again, RotS earned its PG-13, so who knows.

Neither does Lucas. That's why he removed a cuss word from The Empire Strikes Back in the Special Edition. (Captain Needa blurted out "s(ooo)!" when the Millennium Falcon narrowly missed colliding with the top of his Star Destroyer's bridge)

It’s the new "In" rating, nowadays. Studios actually prefer it to a PG. I expect a 12 rating in the UK, although I would be genuinely impressed if it got a PG. All the trailers so far have been given PGs.
