ST Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) in Episode VII

Now that I saw the film, I see that many people on the net think Adam Driver was miscast as Kylo Ren.

I strongly disagree. I think his acting was well. I understand that many don't like that he's not the same as Vader, Kylo is more unstable, but Driver nailed it, especialls his outbursts of fury.

 

Yes his acting was top notch IMO, I believe some people think so because of his looks.

I just went through the TFA visual guide and the following sentence left me intrigued:

"Snoke believing Kylo to be the ideal embodiment of the force due to his balance of dark and light."

Also, something else:

"Kylo Ren is no Jedi, nor is he a Sith. He is the archetype of a new generation of dark side users to fill the void left by the Sith's demise."

I am really pleased with the latter sentence. That is exactly how envisioned Kylo and it makes much more sense in the grand scheme of things.

 

He looks like the Han Solo action figure from '78.

 

The scene with Han was freaking amazing. No villain/actor bar Hayden in the last bits of ROTS have had such a conflicting mix of emotions. At one point during the bridge scene I thought the twist was Kylo gets redeemed so early in the trilogy and then boom, as cold as you like he does what he does. Best acting out of anyone in the film imo.

 

Really?! Miscast?!? I haven't really seen that at all. People on the internet are weird, so I believe it... but this is the first I've heard of that.

 

I've read that comments on some German Facebook and other fanpages. OK, so maybe not the whole net, but definitely a section of it.
But as I said, I disagree with them.

 

TBF there is also prob a section of the internet that argues that Water is not wet.

 

This actor was one of the absolute low points of the movie. Terrible weak limited range makes Hayden Christensen look like Robert De Nero acting ability wise.

Adam Driver was so feeble/weak/unconvincing his low point's were the dual with Rey & Han scene. Utter crap acting & destroyed both scenes (not that anything would have helped them the story was very feeble overall anyway).

How on earth anyone could think he had the acting chops to play this part shows how low the Star Wars franchise has sunk without Lucas calling the shots behind the scenes anymore

 

Not sure if serious. I guess you are entitled to your opinion but I am not sure if you matched the same movie as I did lol.

 

Ditto not sure you watched the same movie as me either I guess you were the target audience of the movie I was not!

 

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren is one of the best things in this great movie.

Do think his performance is "weak" because his character cried lol?

In mask he was good... Once he took it off his acting became wooden...

 

I disagree. I think his performance was great in the scenes without the mask. He showed vulnerability and doubt, as well as rage. I loved the moment at the start of the duel when he yells at Finn calling him 'Traitor!'

 

Poor Adam Driver. Having seen all of his scenes now, no wonder the man was so scared of speaking or saying anything in the interviews prior to the opening... I will have to go back and read again, what he did say about the character now.

 

Did Kylo die on the planet when it exploded at the end? What am I missing here.

Most likely not. Snoke wouldn't have told Hux to bring him back if he was dead (and I think that Snoke would be able to sense it if he had died).

 

Hux left the planet and he was ordered to take Kylo to Snoke.

 

Kylo Ren is very much Anakin rehashed, especially in the final act. I don't mind it too much though, as I loved ROTS.

 

Interesting how he even resembles Anakin's ROTS appearance (especially the mini mullet)

It was weird how it seemed like he died at the end. No way they'd kill him so early though, given how much he's been played up. Before the Maul argument - key difference is Kylo has a personal connection to main characters

 

After some thinking I reckon the reason Snoke hasn't trained him fully is because he felt he wasn't completely rid of the lightside and giving your greatest secrets to somebody only for them to use it against you isn't very wise. Killing Han was the confirmation Snoke needed to complete his training. Also against none force users even someone slightly trained would annihilate them, however as seen against Rey he gets taken out, so maybe he's only been taught the very basics.

 

Driver was absolutely brilliant. Easily the best Star Wars villain since Vader

 

Snoke kinda looks like Jackie Earl Haley's version of Freddy Kruger.
