This is dumb but it bugs me - given that Kylo worships Vader, Anakin's ghost could have showed up and knock some sense into him.

Hmmm I noticed that too. I actually think that the figure being killed by Kylo could be the Constable Zuvio (sp?) character we have seen action figures of.

I very much doubt that either Kasdan or JJ is aware of these characters.

At first I didn't like how goofy he looked without the mask but I think it makes perfect sense for this character. He is trying so hard to be the villain Vader was even if he doesn't have it in him. He really is unstable which makes him more unpredictable and dangerous.

I think it is possible that Kylo couldn't bring himself to kill Rey at the temple and he is the one who actually repressed Rey's memories and sent her to hide on Jakku. Kylo does after all seem to be strong with force mind manipulation.

Not sure if this has been answered but was i right in thinking that Rey destroyed his saber? Either way it ended up on Rey's side of the canyon so i guess he will be getting a new weapon in the next film? Also the mask, did he pick it up after dropping it on the bridge? He didn't have it at the end so is this now gone too?

Or Vaders ghost could have come back and led him to the dark side ...

He is sorta on the lightside even though his last act was murder. Though it seems that in TFA the divides between light and dark aren't as pronounced. Maybe Anakin Skywalkers ghost still has some darkside in him. After all, the darkside was his life for twentysomething years.

I couldn't agree less. This comment reminds me of how dogs like to eat their own feces. I'll never understand it, but it's not my problem.

I just finally got to see the film last evening.

First impressions? I thought the Ben Solo/Kylo Ren character was wonderful. Other than seeing Luke at the end (Wow!), Kylo may have been the highlight of the film. I enjoyed Rey and Finn. Poe's irreverence was a delight.

But Adam Driver's performance as an unmasked Kylo Ren was just brilliant. The scene between father and son on the catwalk was ultimately heartbreaking, but Driver really shined here.

I said from the start that I felt the hiring of Driver was akin to a masterstroke and, well, Adam did not disappoint.

In spite of hating Kylo for what he did to Han, I cannot deny that a part of me still very much pities Ben Solo. Your father was right, young man. Snoke only desires you for your power. For what you can do for him. And once you're no longer of any use to him? Snoke will drop you like a bad habit.

It burns me up to think that this "Supreme Leader" has Ben in his clutches. Snoke plans to finish your training.

    Your move, Ben.

I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Did anyone notice that Kylo said "show me AGAIN, show me the power of the darkness" does this mean Vader has appeared to him before?

    Wow, he said "again"??

It's possible that Snoke disguises himself as Vader spirit however. That would be a devious trick.

In the "Art of " books, an early idea was that Hayden Christensen would return both as Vader / darkside Ani and as light side Anakin and haunt Luke, the concept being that you can't have a "light side" without a dark.. "You cannot light a candle without casting a shadow."

i still think that they will try and (secretly as hell, I hope) bring a Hayden cameo into VIII. It would also be a nice tie-in to the PT, and would make sense for Kylo/Ben to have been led by Vader's ghost all of these years.

Yeah, I'm also lacking words. A Vader cameo in episode VIII just went from possible to extremely likely.

In the TFA art of book?

If true, MSW's Hayden rumor is INDEED true.

What I also find extremely interesting: they seem to be going with the yin/yang model of the force. The dark side as natural part of the universe. Beings being light and dark at the same time. I find that very intriguing. Maybe this trilogy is not so much about destroying the dark and rather about striking a balance and creating lasting peace.

Are we to assume that Kylo will no longer have that helmet in the next two films?

Why wouldn't he have the helmet? If anything, getting his face horribly scarred seems like it'd make him even more inclined to cover his real appearance

Yep. Pg 44 (in front of me): picture of old Luke and young ghost Anakin and Vader's mask, with the quote from Ursula Le Gui: "When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow."
    and
pg 103 has these amazing concept painting of an increasingly corrupt Anakin/Hayden ghost -
The whole book is really beautiful - you could take any single concept painting imho, and make up an entire story around it.

Because he left the mask on the starkiller base when it blew up.

He left it on Starkiller when going after Finn and Rey. Same with the burned Vader helmet.

    Two reasons:
    1. Unless he picked it up from the walkway, it is gone (and we see Kylo staggering towards Rey/Finn after he locks eyes with them, suggesting that he didn't care or think about the helmet at the time)
    2. Adam Driver stated that he absolutely hated acting in the helmet as he couldn't see anything or anyone :D - given how important he is to the next few films, they may want to have a happy actor on their side (though I am sure that he would be professional enough to act with a helmet if asked to.)

His scarring was distinctive enough (and seemed to match a bit of Snokes own scars), for him not to need to have a full helmet on.

Ren was led by Snoke for years apparently, as he was seduced by him. It is possible that Snoke is able to cast illusions but Snoke is obviously Kylo's master and he's and entirely subservient and obedient to him. The Vader helmet worship seemed like he was trying to build up morale up, to psyche himself up as he was talking to himself. He was doing something similar when he was punching his wound, seemed like he's trying to tap into the pain but throughout the movie he's more of a sad case as he finds himself unable to stay "dark" and be able to match Vader's power, as if she's struggling to hold on to whatever darkness and likely sanity he's got.

Even if they come up with something of anachronism in continuity with this Vader's ghost, I would not put it past them as they never showed exactly how Anakin learned the ability but it had something to do with Mortis and Jinn/Yoda arc supposedly, then by that token both Kenobi and Yoda(and possibly Jinn)should be aiding Rey, especially if Luke had all but given up and cut himself off(we don't even know what if anything Luke has been up to, he seems to have exiled himself due to self pity). If Anakin's soul was somehow split in two, even Anakin would fight against Vader. I would take issue with it all since Anakin was redeemed and they went through all the trouble of claiming Sith cannot return as a ghost, then if thats not true you open a door to other villains and you can't really take what they tell us as any sorta fact. Another issue is that Kylo was a novice and he looked in his 30's, so what exactly would Vader have been teaching him?! His Force powers and swordsmanship was weak and he had a lil trouble fighting Finn who had Stormtrooper training. Rey not only overwhelmed him sword skill wise, but also physically and by the Force.
