Studios have large departments to analyze this sort of thing. There is a reason it's not done because it doesn't sell as well. Only color studios care about is green

Once Rey was awakened, she realized that she has great expectations and a tremendous amount of responsibility ahead of her. She will therefore have very little time for a boyfriend. She seemed to make that clear when she referred to Finn as a friend at the end of the film.

It is beyond me why some people even think that the romantic relationship between Rey and Finn would not work ONLY because Finn is black. Seriously, skin color has nothing to do with it and if anyone states otherwise we should just ignore him and keep the discussion relevant. The chemistry between the actors is amazing and I have no doubt they can pull of any kind of relationship that the script will require them to.

I think alex8991 has a valid point. It's nothing new for a black woman being with a white man in a movie. Bond's been doing it since the 60s. But when it comes to a white girl/woman. Especially a big budget, I will say most of you here including me are dreamers. if it does happen, it will be one of the last scenes in the the last episode of the trilogy. But I don't think it will happen.
I hope I'm wrong though. if you guys wanna see Boyega with a female of the opposite race, then you can check out his other film in 2016 ;)
Just want to add, that in Focus even with Will Smith's character they had to show him as half black (his dad being white) to justify him being with Margot Robbie. Heck he didn't even kiss his wife in Hancock.

Yes you could say it. But it would probably be true, so don't ;)

If Disney was cowering in a corner over something as completely stupid as race, they wouldn't have a black lead character in Episode VII to begin with. HAHA, give me a break. Hollywood is trying to be progressive right now. They pissed off lots of stupid, shallow minded people already with Finn's character. I'm pretty sure they'd say those people can **** off...

The movie made a billion dollars already and only a hand full of stupid, small minded people really had any problems with the character's race...

Those who cried about it the most and were most offended and tried to stop the movie from happening just ended up being laughed at and affected the movie in no way at ALL.... No one CARED....It didn't hurt the movie at all...

I haven't talked to any one who even brings up his race. *YAWNNNN*

The country is even ran by a black man, the world didn't end... I'm pretty sure Disney has the balls and ability to create an interracial relationship if that is their desire...We live in a more progressive time where no one cares what a bunch of stupid bigots think...

At the very least why would anyone take them seriously?

Well, I guess we'll find out in 2017, if the multi-billion dollar franchise with the biggest fanbase in popular entertainment that just dropped an estimated four hundred million in advertising designed to attract children, minorities, and young women will be afeared of push back from an angry group of tweeting boycotters who will lie and go see the next movie anyway.

    Pretty much my position.

Boyega and Ridley have a very versatile chemistry.
They can do find friends and they can also do deeply in love people (scene at Maz's).

So Disney could do whatever it wants with them.

Guys please, lets not talk about the race of the characters, there is simply no point and continuing to do so will only encourage trolls/silly people to further state their flawed views. ;)

Watched the film 7 times now, and at maz's I just saw them as friends, there was no romance there. But of course the chemistry is good, but not romantic until the hug at the starkiller base if we want to interpret it as that.

Well, I'm not saying they are more than friends there. I'm saying that the chemistry between them in that scene could easily be parlayed into romance. That little smile she gives even though she's upset...

You know, I was looking for that little smile at maz's castle when Finn was leaving and telling her blah blah blah. I didn't see the smile unfortunately. And who would be smiling when their friend is about to leave them? No matter what they say!

And then the Rey Random or skywalker Line will end with her because apparently female jedi finding love and having children is against the plan of the galaxy.

Because he tells her no one ever looked at him the way she did. It's a very brief second but it's there. The gifs will come soon enough.

Ok mate, we see things differently. I honestly saw no smile. But it doesn't matter anyway, we'll know which way it goes in 18 months or so :)

Have seen it 6 times and the more times I see it, the more platonic it seems. Maybe it's like a crush wearing off.

I don't think Disney would be overly afraid of pairing them up. Let's face it they're not going to be making out or anything in these movies. A pure, romantic relationship between Rey / Finn is not out of the question.

I just don't think it'll happen outright because I think Kylo will be the central male in her life - as a counterpoint, an adversary and her ultimate test before she becomes a Jedi. In other words I don't think there will be an overt romance in her life.

Rey and Finn have undeniable chemistry, and who's to say it won't be better if they stay friends rather than become lovers? She's bound to have her own chemistry with Poe too. And we've yet to see other characters come into play. I'm sure Rian Johnson will introduce one or two fascinating new characters that could change the group dynamics altogether.

We really need to see how Ep 8 pans out and the new characters introduced to have a sense how it'll go. And I think it's safe to assume that Rey's story would extend into a second trilogy.

From what I deduced watching the film, Rey and Finn have friendship bordering on the romantic. At this point its not fully developed, Finn confesses "you looked at me like no else has," (which could imply romance, but could merely allude to that Finn being used to be number in machine of the First Order, and was not use to being treated like a human being). Then there is Rey kissing Finn briefly, and her major reaction to his injury (I won't describe what happened because of spoilers). At this point I would say they have feelings for each other, but is merely at the first stage of crush, and mutual attraction because of what they have been through. That is my two cents.

    Well said!

People like alex8991 keeps on bringing up the idea that Hollywood will never put a white female lead in a relationship with a black co-lead, especially in a big budget film. I mean alex8991 has been so adament about this concept to the point where I am beginning to wonder if he brings this up because he believes it to be fact, or he brings it up because he kinda wants to be true so that Finn/Rey will not be romantically/flirtatiously involved.

The fact that they chose a female heroine as well as a black co-lead already shows you how progressive Disney is thinking. This isn't the 1970s where the only way to safely have a black actor in a big budget film is to have him play second fiddle to the all white cast (Think Billy Dee Williams in ESB and ROTJ). This is about to be 2016 and yet some people still act like this is the Jim Crow era.

I really hope that we can move past this race issue now and just speculate on the potential romance/relationship between Finn and Rey. Let the people like alex8991 troll because it is already clear that people like him are against such measures so we should just not feed the trolls and stay on topic at hand.
