ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

But being all dark and stuff does...allegedly... Unless they're related, they're definitely gonna 'have' each other in this trilogy, but it will not end well. It's impossible for Ben to survive the trilogy.

 

That's funny. I watched ANH and always identified with Luke.
In ROTJ I identified with Leia, perhaps because she strangles her abuser and is a badass. Little girls unfortunately have to deal with enough sexual harassment to want to strangle these giant slugs seeing them as sexual objects.
In ESB I identified with Lando. I don't know, the way he gets more and more worried, conflicted. No idea why, really.

I never had a problem identifying with male characters. I think the media has so much male characters that girls don't have a choice. And really, if you watch, let's say, a James Bond movie (I have to confess I like them), you have to identify with the male hero, or else the movie makes no sense.

My theory on Finn and Poe was that women are identifying too much with Finn...

But anyways, I think there's a lot of identification going on in wanting Finn and Rey. Even though Rey is a "hero", she's still seen as the girl that the guy needs to get: the prize. I don't know, sometimes I really understand why some viewers want her to end up single and loving it.

I don't really know if we should necessarily be going about this ship claiming that it's ok even if they're cousins because of..history.

The modern Western world is generally pretty not okay with that. Most people in general are pretty not okay with that. Most people are already turned off by the idea of Reylo because they're so certain she's a Skywalker.

 

Why is Rey/Kylo (Reylo?) More believable than FinnRey? It's literally based off a rather creepy interrogation scene

 

He should at least survive the wedding day and the honeymoon with Rey!

 

I don't see Rey as a 'prize'. Some people are determined to see all women in that way, that you have 'won' when you get her. *highfives* to bros etc...xD Then you get the other stereotype stating the woman HAS to choose between the guys on offer. Any alternative is simply not an option. It would be refreshing to see Rey take a different path to the usual stuff we get.

 

That's why I never liked watching James Bond They didn't appeal to me and I just felt uncomfortable watching them as a kid because of that very reason.

That's why I don't like watching plenty of movies. Sure, some are just so good that I get over the fact that I can't relate to any of the characters. Sometimes you don't even need to relate to characters at all! But I feel like Star Wars is too huge not to step up their game a bit (and they definitely have).

Girls SHOULD have a choice, however. Things are changing, yeah, but cool female protagonists still aren't on par with cool male protagonists yet (in terms of quantity and sooooome quality).

 

Heated chemistry is more believable with Reylo. A long lasting relationship more likely with Rinn.

It's so true. I was telling my guy friend the Reylo theory and he was soo turned off by it, thinking immediately that it would be cheesy. He just couldn't get past that. People think all this negative stuff with romance, thanks to the lack of deeper romance stories in the modern era.

I only agree in part. I'd like to wait for the other two movies before I am totally set on Reylo just being heated chemistry. and there have been so many relationships that came out of friendship that didn't last (in fact, sometimes people being very close friends before hand may ruin a relationship).

There are positives and negatives to everything.

 

I don't know what thing I said this is referring to, but yeah I agree! I think the most likely ending is Rey just doing her own thing, and I honestly wouldn't be upset with that. It makes sense and kind of reminds me of what happened to Furiosa in Mad Max.

 

BTW, how about a scene where Kylo tells Rey "I love you" and she redponds "I know"?....

No.. better the other way around. After a lot of drama and his EPIC redemption she tells Kylo "I love you" and he says "I know"... and probably dies in her arms....

 

Ooo yea Furiosa and Max. I personally couldn't tell if they liked each other or not, or if they just really respected one another. The ending stare was so powerful and satisfying regardless!

Well, the only Annie I know is a cartoon with really orange hair and two blank eyes, so NOPE! Us "Ann with no E at the end" are kind of sensitive about that issue.

Back to seriousness -
We'll have to know some more information and have some answers before we know if/what type of relationship Rey and Kylo will have -

*How long was Snoke influencing Ben? Right now, Ben's character reminds me of Alia Atreides from the Dune novels. She was born "pre-conscious", with the memories/ghosts of all her ancestors inside her. She made a pact with one (of course it was evil Baron Harkonnen) to silence the voices. Kind of like Snoke influencing Ben Solo.

*Is Rey a Skywalker? This will influence WHAT kind of relationship Rey and Kylo have, not IF they will have one. Either way, they are involved. Maybe as cousins, with Rey working to bring Ben back "from the dead". Or if Rey is an orphan or a Kenobi relative, as (maybe) more than that.

 

I'm not sure about that. We could have "I hate you"/ I know. More believable.

Someone posted that "I love you" could be the new "I am your father".
Not that she would say Noooooooo!, more like WTF?

I thought the idea would be cheezy at first, but truly, that would be a good way to be similar yet different from the OT.

In all honesty, all I truly want from Reylo is a smile.

I just want them to get to a point in the series where they can warmly, sincerely smile at one another. That'll be as satisfying as the Mad Max stare to me.

 

That would be good for a parody version of their romantic relationship (IF they become romantically involved)
