OK. Fine. We just don't agree. I don't see "rape" in that scene. Let's see ep. 8 in 17 months to maybe make things a bit greyer, instead of "black" and "white".

"Love what you do, and you'll never work a day in your life." General Hux needs a bit of that old Tarkin spirit.

I really doubt Ben will get a happy ending and I doubt she will end up with Poe because she hasn't interacted with Poe in the movies at all. And Just because Rey/Finn is easy doesn't mean it's not worth it. I kinda hate people think every romance must be super hard lol sometimes people just click XD

Hmm..I don't know if I agree with you on that. I didn't feel any really overt sexual undertones at all from that interrogation scene, just like I didn't get any from Poe's either. It's basically just brutal torture that Kylo Ren was performing; he wanted the coordinates and the location of Luke Skywalker. And honestly, I have no Idea where anyone got the "sexual tension" from, it's more wishful thinking on their part, but hey, if that's what they would like to see, then so be it. And I don't think Kylo stopped because he lost his manhood, he stopped because he was overtaken by Rey's power in the Force. And it's definitely not a rape allegory, that's for sure. And I don't think Kylo's a complete psychopath at all, he's a very conflicted individual, so his motives are still really unclear. It's why he's now one of my favorite SW villains of all time. It's still unclear if he's doing things in self-interest or for a more greater cause. Idk yet, really.

You know, that's the one love scene where I'm actually debating with my self if it's actually a better love story than Twilight, and that is NOT a good thing at all. :)

Not a troll. He didn't finish the mind read because Rey turned it back on him and insulted him by using his own doubts about not being as great a Dark Side User as his grandfather. Really did no one else realize that in this ?

Yes. It seems that everyone the Resistance and the First Order is full of wannabe's, Hux being the one looking up to Tarkin. Hopefully he won't be as underrated as Tarkin was in IV, seeing if he actually does something of note. That speech he gave was pretty damn good, too. I really felt the space nazi vibe. :)

But that's still not a loss of his manhood, though, nor was it an insult towards it. The scene had nothing to do with his manhood or his masculinity at all. It was about discovering that Rey has a great potential in the Force, even more so than Kylo Ren, seeing how he got his ass beat thoroughly by Rey.

So he didn't finish his rape because Rey raped him back? We already had this conversation in this thread, it didn't go well for the mind probe= rape people.

If you want to talk about how Rey over took her adversary then by all means, we have discussed this too. It was the moment where the two characters became equals and why their duel later on is a match between peers. And also sets them up for their foil status and parallel journeys that will undoubtedly take place in the ST.

I was trying to think of what Daisy meant when she said her solitude was a clue to who she was. All I can think of is "Obi-wan, you're our only hope"

But what the hell could Kylo even teach her? He's not even completed his training yet, and he wants an apprentice?! He needs to slow down and think that through a little better.

Okay maybe Manhood was a bad word to use there. His pride took a blow in that this girl turned his Force mind read back on him as he was trying to read he and she also used his deep insecurity to make him fly into a rage about himself and he storms out of the room in a storm of emotions.

Well sure, his insecurities and fears were revealed to Rey, and therefore she is no longer intimidated by him. And with someone of Kylo's character, they'd most definitely lose their sense of pride after being embarrassed by their chained up captive, especially with how much of a wild, reckless and insecure person he is.

When I saw Jessica Chastain I wondered if they were going to have her be a Mara Jade type character. (red hair) I hope not.

Yes, from what I have seen the major barriers for most people to even consider this pairing:
    a) Possible blood relation between the two characters - which a lot of the fanbase are taking as fact because they've never heard of a red herring.
    b) Kylo Ren's patricide.

If the filmmakers decide to they can overcome those two barriers (obviously the convincing redemption required to overcome point b) is the bigger issue!). I go back and forth between the cynical realist in me and the hopeful optimist. The hopeful one says: maverick director + "weird" script + claims of "never seen before in Star Wars" points to the possibility of this staying interesting.

    Whoa http://screenrant.com/star-wars-episode-8-female-lead-casting-short-list/

"The rumor mill has suggested that the role in question is that of Han Solo’s daughter, which calls into question not only the plot of Episode VIII, but also our preconceived notions of The Force Awakens. Daisy Ridley’s Rey has long been speculated to be the offspring of Han and Princess Leia, but insiders close to the production maintain thatnone of the new heroesare a Skywalker or Solo. Always one for some misdirection, Abrams has also teased that the last names of Finn and Reyare purposely being kept a secret until the film comes out, so we most likely won’t find out for sure what’s going on until then.

    Hey, thanks for the plug!

As to the topic at hand, I get the feeling that Rey and Ben were very close in a platonic way. Perhaps not literally related, but I think Ben felt very protective of her. I wouldn't be surprised if it was he that left her on Jakku...unless I'm forgetting a detail that would contradict that.:bb8head:

"hat’s the latest update from Making Star Wars (who, we should say, is one of the premiere outlets for The Force Awakens news). They were in contact with multiple anonymous sources close to the production (including one from the recent musical scoring sessions), and they all say the same thing. None of the new hero characters are Solos or Skywalkers. Perhaps the most telling quote is this one, which suggests the answers to the questions we’re all wondering about aren’t Abrams’ biggest concern:
“It would not knock me on my knees to learn she [Rey] is a Solo. VII does not answer that question. It just presents it.”

Notice is says new hero characters so this would preclude Ben.

I know a lot of us here on the thread are a fan of the Rey Kenobi theory and we've all discussed a few things that could lead to that, but your post just had everything laid out so nicely that I had to share it!

And I can get behind platonic! I may prefer something romantic between the two, but I know a typical kind of romance is quite unlikely. And ultimately, I just want the two to have some type of bond by the end of this series (and we can see they already have a connection of whatever kind).

Ultimately, I just want them to smile warmly at one another to signify that they've both matured and feel the light in one another.

(obviously, though, Ben will have to go through a lot of soul searching before something like this can happen...)
