ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

Yeah, I noticed how heated things were getting so I wanted to get some understanding of Reylos appeal and explain my position better in regards to being a FinnRey-er. I just think we should all be able to talk about our respective ships in a fun way without getting nasty.

Honestly the way you headcanoned it is a pretty favorable way for it all to shake out. I fully believe Kylo can be redeemed, but it will cost him greatly. And yeah, it would be complex, painstaking and might require death or exile on his part. I mean, Han Solo is iconic and beloved, taking out the patricide element even, most fans hate Kylo with a passion atm. So bringing him back to the light would be a delicate process that would have to done precisely right for people to buy into.

To have Finn and Rey keep their bond til the end would be enough for me. Yeah romance would be great, but more than anything I want their partnership to carry emotional weight throughout the trilogy. It's the primary thing that engrossed me in the story.

 

Leia certainly will as she wanted her son back, and even after her plant was blown up she didn't go out and seek revenge, rather she focused on what she could do to help others, and with the Republic down that's what she's going to do. Luke is Luke, he forgave his father, brought him back to the light, I'm damn sure with Rey on his side he'll do the same for Ben, also we now have the fact that Rey and Ben are force bonded which pretty much assures us that he's going to have to live because if he doesn't she dies right along with him.

I don't think they will kill Finn, they're not that dumb, and normally writers and creators want as many characters as possible for the future to use.

 

Yeah I saw a pic of her, I don't get anything appoaching 'threatening' vibes from her. But you know, looks are deceiving.

People have gone back and forth about Gina, I can honestly say I have no flipping clue what her role is or if she even has one yet. Rumors everywhere lol.

 

Exactly. No one ship is perfect, sure there are cannon ships but that's where fanfiction comes in, you can learn a lot about a character based on how others ship them and why too. Regarding Han, it seems that it was really an up to the wire choice, both sides were arguing about if they should or should not kill him, and in the end they decided to for the sake of making something really heart breaking for both Rey and Ben to experience, as well as dealing with a request that had been a long time request from Ford.

I honestly think this bond thing between Ben and Rey will wind up being a great thing if they use it as a means to redeem him. Rey, influencing Ben, and pulling him back with challenges to him and other means could go a long way in saving him and making him realize just what he's doing. Bolstering each other through this bond during their training would be a very interesting thing as it would be seen as a rivalry but also as a means for them to know each other and because of that connection I think that they both will at least find someone who gets them in a way others can't. It doesn't have to lead to romance, but it could lead to a long friendship that can balance the force out.

Finns a good guy, Rey's a good gal, they both deserve happiness, where it comes from, who knows, but them being close friends and having that link between them is a great thing regardless of the romance. Same for Finn and Poe, same for Ben and Rey. Honestly I wouldn't mind if this group becomes the next Maruders, Finn being the one trying to keep them out of trouble a la lupin, Ben being the Sirus who always wants to tempt fate in some way, Rey as James and being the leader, and Poe as Lily in this case being the kind one that makes sure they don't do dumb things.

 

Exactly, it's quiet a conundrum really. Could she be a bad guy? Honestly I don't know, she has a pair of very, don't want to say intense eyes, but they stand out. Hey maybe she can be the first Chiss since she kind of has the look for one. I do hope though that the whole thing with Ben turning didn't happen because of a girl, because at that point I would just throw my hands in the air and go, "Why?!"

 

I imagine a scene similar to when he's talking to the Vader helmet. He starts monologuing about this greater strength of the pull to the light, and he's confused by it, but he feels strangely at peace for those few seconds he feels it...he lingers on it for a bit, but then snaps back to the dark.

I think many little moments like that are more believable, than just one key moment that makes him go like "well that's it, I'm becoming good again instantly!" I want him to go through an existential crisis.

It's maybe insignificant. But why Disney would leave songs of impossible love if that did'nt have a meaning?

As for the Finn topic... The idea that they might use him as this sacrificial lamb just passed my thoughts when I read on sprculations as to where his development may lead. There's really a lot of possibilities for him after he wakes up... And getting killed off to trigger Rey's turn occured to me. Just to clarify: I DON'T WANT THAT! :'(

And most probably will not happen since Finn is such an icon to little boys now as Rey is to girls... And Kylo Ren is to freaks like me

Oh wow, I didn't know they had playlists for each character, that's awesome! I think you are absolutely right, that is just highly suspicious for so many of the songs to have that theme of impossible love and all consuming passion in both Rey and Kylo's playlists. Hmmm. Sorry but that does not apply to FinnRey, which would be the obvious set up. Lana del Rey is not for bland romances, lolol.

Wow, that is super spot on. I think that the relationship between Han and Ben - or at least Ben Solo's perception of his relationship with his dad - played a role in what happened with Kylo Ren, though it certainly doesn't excuse it.

Btw since my first viewing of TFA I started to associate Kylo Ren with a song that I love very much: Mind Over Matter by Young the Giant

As y'all might know, I, uh...have made two Reylo fa mixes :/ there are a lot of songs that remind me of them...and I have a third one that im planning out right now.

Is this for real? I mean do the people that create these Playlists have a connection to the plot that we might not have heard about? Or are they created by fans. Very intriguing

They're basically just music playlists with songs that remind me of Reylo c: I don't really love all of the songs I used in my first playlist because that was made after my first viewing, but there are some in there that I totally adore for them. There are a TON online already made by fans, but these are my two.

I used the term "psychopath" to contrast the... Odd... Point that Kylo Ren and Rey were just two people on opposite sides of a conflict battling. Psychopath/victim is a much, much, much more appropriate description of their interactions. When discussing SW on the Internet, I'm not going to worry about whether people want to jump on the fact that technically (in their equally inexperienced minds) his 30 minutes of screen time indicates that he is more likely a narcissist. I saw him commit mass murder without conflict in that 30 minutes. I will use the term psychopath if I feel it is necessary to bring the conversation back around to being grounded.

I'm also aware that SW brought Vader back from the light. I understand themes in SW. That doesn't mean Vader wasn't all levels of evil while he was dark. When he slaughtered children, he wasn't a conflicted man in turmoil that went to war to battle against his opponents. He was a remorseless mass murderer.

I'm not discussing your ship. This started because I couldn't believe the description of Kylo Ren that I read. If people want to ship a psycho with a woman in a soap opera, I don't care at all. Have at it. But have self awareness about it. Hope he turns back to the light. Hope Rey turns a bit dark to match him. Something. But if you are arguing that Kylo Ren as he is now isn't so bad and Rey is drawn to him or something, well lol, you might get the occasional pushback from someone that randomly wandered in and read something surprising.

 

I wouldn't get too excited by the playlists. According to hypable, But if you want something a little more upbeat, check out Spotify’s curated character playlists, that are basically half-official fan mixes.

So not hints from Disney. But they may be paying attention to fans' reactions to the characters.

 

I am actually heading out to see TFA on Imax 3D for the last time (really this time!) but before I go, some thoughts that maybe you guys can help me with. What do you think about how Snoke will impact the relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey - romance or not?

What I've noticed is that Snoke seems to have a lot of insight into Kylo Ren, which we see when he calls him out on his compassion for Rey. Other instances too, but that is what most struck me.

Meanwhile Kylo Ren seems to have barriers put up against Snoke. When he talks to Vader's mask he says "Supreme Leader senses this (call to the light)". He seemed to bluff to Snoke about not caring for Han and being prepared to do what he had to, but privately we know he struggled. When he has to confess he took the girl and let the droid go, he hesitates. He doesn't seem to be on the same page with Hux and Snoke when it comes to blowing up planets, and Snoke must sense that.

A few days ago a poster talked about possible brainwash/mind control/curse on Ben Solo, which I personally don't like because it sounds like it excuses Ben to some degree, when really he is the one doing all of this. That said, we know from the novelization that Snoke was talking to Kylo Ren since he was a child, corrupting him, so in a sense this might be true?

As for Snoke and Rey, no doubt he is interested in her if he figured out she is the awakening. And in the novelization/audio book it sounds like he tried to get Rey to finish off Kylo. I think he may try to collect her in the future, like a Pokemon in the wild, lol. He may make this his agenda and sensing that Rey and Kylo have a connection, might try to exploit it to get Rey to the dark side. Personally I would not like to see this, but I think it's unlikely that Rey and Kylo would exist in a vacuum in the force isolated from Snoke. I think he and Kylo Ren might be too enmeshed for that too happen. What do you guys think?

That's awesome. I wasn't sure if there was going to be a fanmade music video or something like that. I'm familiar with the fanfiction and fanart aspects of fandom, but this is the first I've come across this. Makes sense because of course we connect our thoughts and feelings about characters/situations with music. Thanks for the link, will check it out.

 

But Disney acknowledges that people are seeing Kylo as a tragic/dark romantic character, by adding love songs to his mix, they also see that people see Rey as having conflicted/ dark love.

I checked Finn's and while it has songs about love that match his character, I didn't find anything about romance with Poe, so Disney is not acknowledging that aspect.

 

Reading this thread has made me realize that I'm apparently not as weird as I thought I was

 

Also Can I Say I see where you guys are getting this stuff but please don't assume Force Bond is Canon cause your only going to screw yourself if you push your ship in one direction completely XD

I doubt the force bond thing but I think Ren will be just as obsessed about Rey as he is about Luke. I see the Final Battles to Be Finn vs The rest of the Knights of Ren , Rey vs. Kylo, Luke vs Snoke.
Also Kylo gets no happy ending. He may go out exactly like his grandfather that he so Idolizes, helping his uncle in the final battle after losing to Rey and then losing his life as a consequence.
