ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

You and rowan_greenleaf were being quite dismissive of Finn regarding Rey's feelings towards him, implying that hes just crushing and that Rey CLEARLY only thinks of him as a friend. There's nothing clear about her feelings towards him in my view, it could be just friendship but very possibly something else. To just assume that things are definitively this way or that between them with no knowledge of the filmmakers intent to Finn and Rey's scenes together, idk that seems presumptuous to me. And I recognize that yeah I have my perceptions as well, but I'm open to the idea that I could be mistaken. I'm just saying, consider that maybe there's more there that's not obvious.

 

Does anyone know the location of an official script (or an unofficial one, in a pinch)? (Why why why isn't TFA available for home viewing yet? )

I'm interested in exploring this more:

It seems that Kylo "unlocked" the Force in Rey, as she got exponentially better at using the Force after the interrogation...but did she "awaken" on her own, or by some other chain of events?

 

I have no idea where one exists but I have seen a lot of people have been posting snips and excerpts from the script in a few different threads to support different ideas and theories.

 

I've simply downloaded the script online when it leaked...Tho i can't advocate for it's authenticity, every scene and line written were exactly the same with the movie, so I'll say that was the final version of the script.

 

Rei of Sunshine, the scene you described between KR and Rey in your head, is a good one I believe. Maybe you can write it out some time. Though I would point out that it'd then be similar (but not exact) to Revan/Bastila. Parallels happen. Is the Shan line distantly related to the Skywalkers? Dun dun dunnn!

 

What if that was a disturbance in the Force that triggered the awakening, set up by Luke. Maybe Finn was awakened by it too?

 

I found the script somewhere on the internet...you gotta look for it! If you can't find it tell me.

I have some thoughts concerning Rey and would love to share them so you guys can give me your opinion.
JJ. said that the key to her origins is her current abandonment state on Jakku. Colin treverrow said there were going to give a "very satisfactory" answer to her origins, and also that she is important for the whole galaxy...Then, we also know that she is a strong force user, that SHE is the force's awakening, as stated by Pablo Hidalgo commenting of the "it is you" line in the novel. We also know she made a resistance doll - so we can infer that she has seen resistance pilots - and has a resistance helmet, that she could have found on Jakku.
Other elements are:
- We know Jakku was the set of the last Empire/Rebel forces fight after ROTJ and that they abandonned her with Unkar Plutt. Why him? That's a tremendous question.Was she abandonned around that time of the last fight?
- She also teases that she is "classified". Was it ironic?
- In the force vision, her outfit looks like one of a Jedi padawan
- She also says she is waiting for her "family", so clearly she remembers who they are! In the script there is a "voice" that says "We'll come back for you, sweetheart". That would probably have been her mom.
- And again, we know that the fact she was left on Jakku and Kylo's massacre of the Jedi academy are not linked.

Then: we know that if she remembers her parents, there is no possible way she could be Leia and Han's daughter. Or she is of one of them, who had kids with another one.The other thing is she would have remembered Luke if he was her father! But in the first dialogue, she thought he was a myth...any connection to them sounds very fishy, but then, in the novel, it's clearly stated that everyone feels confortable around her, as if it was "natural".

So then, I question: I think her abandonment state has necesarily to do with the fact that she's a very powefull force user. But she herself didn't know of that power.
She realizes it only when she has to pilot the millenium falcon. The trailer said: The force is calling to you. So then, again, I link the fact that she is someone special in the force and her abandonment state is the key to her origins. What's the link between those 2 facts? I have like a feeling that she is a sort of impersonation/reincarnation of someone important and that she was abandonned by people who are linked to the resistance (hence, the doll) in order for her to be safe until she was to be trained properly. Maybe her parents are dead, and that's why she was forgotten - Maz says that the people who left her will never come back.

Any thoughts???

 

I think she is not Luke's but Luke will be the "future family" that Maz mentioned (I don't remember the wording exactly).

 

I definitely don't want to get anyone in trouble with the script thing. I'm just kind of new and I figured I was missing something in terms of where to find the script! No worries, and thanks.

 

Oh yeah, that's obvious. If he's not the natural father, he'll be the adoptive one for sure! But until then, we don't really know...These filmmakers are torturing us.

 

I have this curse, see...that when I write my headcanons for my OTPs into fanfiction...They'd never happen... So I won't LOL ...
I was inspired by Revan and Bastila too!...tho what they had was a family...They were together and She got pregnant. but he left, never to return.. my headcanon for Reylo is 'sealed with a kiss' so to speak, yet left ambiguous.....

....if that happens...after that's when I write the fanfics.

 

This is when I thought she first used the Force. But it was very hard to tell because Rey says that she never knew she could do it, she's never done it before, while she's having that mutual admiration party with Finn. They're talking over each other and it's hard to hear. (I'm not sure where I stand on Finn being FS, but if he is he probably starts here too. Which of course brings up interesting questions re: the awaking of the title.)

It seems weird to me though that piloting is when she awakens. It's kind of mundane, or something. On the other hand, it does keep her alive, which is kind of integral to the plot.

I noticed it when watching the movie the second time....but I assumed she might have been reflecting on how she almost killed the guy in a fight....I never considered her trying to reach out to his mind... that would be interesting...

 

Well, she really realizes it I think when she has the force vision. But I think it was before that...coz Snoke says that to Kylo : Have you felt it?
So, I'm pretty sure it was before the force vision.

 

I think the novels, cards, toys and playlists all have little clues (and a few red herrings too) about what is going on and what to expect so that fans buy as many of them as possible to figure out what to expect....a good marketing strategy....but I don't think they would misguide people either....so I feel we can't dismiss the song lists either...

Why Reylo hate is utter nonsense

I created this blog purely so I could wade into the ****fest that is the Reylo vs anti Reylo conflict. I’ve never been super involved in a large fandom before, so have never witnessed this much childish sniping and hand-wringing over frickin’ pairings. Never. I’m torn between being amused and appalled, with a leaning towards the latter.
The central position of the anti Reylo crowd seems to be that it’s utterly abhorrent and unequivocally wrong to ‘ship’ Kylo Ren and Rey because the dynamic between them is fundamentally abusive and unhealthy. There is no room for nuance or qualification with this position, which seems to mostly consist of people going ‘ugh incest’ (which isn’t even the case - yet) or blindly branding Reylo shippers despicable rape/abuse apologists and racists.
What these people - that is to say those who utterly reject any exploration of a Rey/Kylo relationship - fail to understand is that, when it comes to art and fiction, the happy and uncomplicated relationships are generally the least interesting to explore and write about. So while Rey and Finn are sweet together and are very clearly the most ‘canon’ ship in the film, that’s pretty much all there is to them - they are a cute potential couple. This is text in the film, and you’re meant to leave it with that impression. Everything about their relationship is clearly telegraphed and evident to everyone in the audience. There is little uncertainty or conflict, especially by the end of the film, and that’s why it has proven to be a less popular ship than the far more tenuous Reylo. It has absolutely nothing to do with racism, which is a truly bizarre and misguided accusation that has become alarmingly widespread.
Reylo, meanwhile, is more attractive to many people because it’s inherently dramatic. This, in turn, means it’s ripe for exploration and analysis. The characters involved are fundamentally opposed - Rey on the light side, Kylo on the dark side - but are both shown to be drawn to and attracted by the other side (Kylo confesses that he struggles to resist the pull of the light, while Rey, in the novelisation, is seemingly empowered by the dark side during her fight with Kylo). In line with this, Kylo is very clearly shown to be fascinated and impressed by Rey - he treats her in a comparatively gentle, almost courtly, manner, and is clearly drawn to her power and mystery.
The unique nature of the relationship is demonstrated by the torture scenes with Kylo and Poe and Kylo and Rey, which are very clearly meant to be contrasted and compared - both have the hero strapped to the same torture device, and both are interrogations. While Kylo is mercenary, impersonal and pitiless with Poe, he is sensitive, personal and intimate with Rey - he calls her his “guest” and reveals his true face to her in a blink to prove that he isn’t the monster she imagines him to be. Rey, who has only exchanged a few words with him, can compel Kylo to remove his mask and reveal his true self to her - it’s a deeply powerful gesture laced with significance and resonance, and it’s quite literally the stuff that ships are made of.
Rey, for her part, is clearly shocked to find that her kidnapper is a young man with a vulnerable and open face, not all that different from herself. I wouldn’t go as far as some and say that she appears attracted to him when she sees his face revealed, but she’s very clearly shocked and taken aback. There is more to him than her mental image of a wicked monster only interested in committing evil for evil’s sake.
While none of this in any way excuses Kylo’s abusive and cruel behaviour, it ought to at least put the fascination with the Rey/Kylo dynamic into perspective. People are, generally speaking, not fascinated by the relationships that are safe, normal and sweet - relationships fraught with danger, conflict and complexity exert a far greater and more fundamental appeal. It’s why Wuthering Heights, a textbook example of a poisonous and mutually destructive relationship, is still compelling over 100 years later.
I absolutely do understand criticism of the tendency to completely ignore the problematic aspects of the Reylo ship, which are manifold and undeniable (the people who criticise the ship on this basis are not the target of this post, btw). But no one’s naive and blanket moral judgements are going to remove the appeal of a dynamic that is fundamentally dramatic and emotionally and sexually charged. You might as well throw out the entire literary canon for failing to meet your rigid set of moral standards.

It's hard for one of the most obvious ships to be considered a joke. I used to consider this ship a joke. Now I just enjoy listening to the theories people put together until either someone convinces me I'm crazy for shipping finnrey or the next movie comes out.

 

maybe you've been called 'crazy', but we've been called 'racists', 'rape fanatics' 'fetishists', 'fantasizers' 'abuse advocates' and '****ing disgusting' etc., some people get very personal it gets a little upsetting...we're just a bunch of people who saw something some other people didn't, and we're here discussing the possibility of it developing into something in the future...I hate people who bash other people for their opinions

 

"The film will end with another encounter between Rey and Kylo, but this time Kylo will tell Rey something about their shared history that will change her view of him and cause her to step over into the dark side. As Kylo was emotionally compromised and vulnerable to the temptations of the light side at the end of TFA, Rey will be emotionally compromised and vulnerable to the temptations of the dark side at the end of VIII. This would create a massive cliffhanger and huge anticipation for IX, and it would challenge all of the apparent certainties established in VII."

I want this cliffhanger . It would be so interesting! And it will open the doors to a more ambiguous relationship bewteen Kylo and Rey.
