Yeah, potentially, but looking at the saga, we've never seen opponents fight each other more than twice. They would have to be pretty creative to get Rey and Ren to duel each other three times.

a dog fight is a great idea! I Sincerly hope Kylo is an incredible pilot, we've already seen Rey is a great one! would be cool to see them duke it out in space!

I thought that people wanted to see "new things?" And it would be different because you'd be able to see them duel in three different stages of their development, which sounds kind of cool to me actually.

When "Matt" talks about killing the officer's son, when I first saw it I somehow thought Kylo was saying he killed his father. I thought they were letting a Han Solo spoiler slip on SNL - which admittedly would be fine by this point. Enough time would have passed.

If you read the paragraph that the statement in bold begins... You'll find I am stating it is improbable Rey recovers so quickly from the force push, proceeds to be able to obtain the lightsaber, and would be able to resist force aggression if Kylo uses it. These are the events leading up to the duel, or the 'greater conflict' I am referring to.

She brought up how Kylo does not want to kill Rey, how he is weakened by Han's death, and how he is injured. I acknowledge all these things. All of these things will significantly affect Kylo if it comes to a duel, but it doesn't change that a saber duel is in itself an improbable occurrence.

Well, to begin, I am not contesting that there would be no transference of skill between different melee weapons. The question is to what extent this effect is instantaneous.

Of course, I've talked about transferring from a staff to a longsword quite a bit. The changes are surmountable, and are probably more easily overcame in a practice environment. To say these challenges aren't considerable, however, is something I haven't heard before.

The change in optimal distance between opponents alone is going to be jarring. Tactics accordingly are going to differ. Techniques will transfer fairly well if you training with a staff with the purpose of eventually using a longsword. In Rey's case, this seems dubious. The hand placement, hand mobility, hand protection, and even basic grip all differ.

Of course, Rey isn't changing from a staff to a longsword. She is changing from a staff to a lightsaber. So, start swinging around a flashlight after swinging around a staff to see just what type of switch she is making.

I don't care much about how the scene portrayed Rey's skill. I simply don't think that is probable.

I am aware of Kylo's state. My claim is and always has been, when Finn is incapacitated, the fight is likely over, and Rey beating him at this point is an improbable occurrence.

I accept the scene can be explained. But, I'm also aware that I can win the lottery tomorrow, and have that be explained. Of course, winning the lottery is still an improbable occurrence.

To see if we disagree... are you claiming Rey recovering from the force push is probable? Are you claiming Rey obtaining the lightsaber is probable? Are you claiming Kylo is unlikely to use force aggression, or Rey is likely to resist it? Are you claiming it is probable Kylo loses a lightsaber duel to Rey?

Are you claiming all four of these things happening subsequently is probable?

He still got beat down. Dooku fought two Nightsisters and Ventress, blinded and drugged and beat their ass. I liked Kylo a lot, but he was weak.

They're close enough for Star Wars....there is a reason why the audience was shown her fighting abilities on Jakku, after all.

    Fair enough.

To be fair, Rey appears to be naturally stronger in the Force than any SW character we've seen so far. Kylo does have skills, but Rey could be in a whole 'nother ballpark altogether.

Kylo Ren is not weak. The only indicators of weakness are when Rey is in the scene. This points to Rey being very powerful as opposed to Kylo being weak. Rey simply being the best ever would explain everything she did. The problem is, a lot of the criticism based around the character is that she is too powerful. Saying she is the best ever in response to this criticism isn't a surefire way to alleviate concern.

I love EmoKyloRen. But we need a GhostofAnakinSkywalker Twitter.

"Grandfather, I will finish what you started."

"Well you've got the long flowing locks and very annoying whine going, but you'll NEVER emulate me until you grow a karking sense of humor. Now practice: General Hux. You look like an American Presidential candidate."

"But I don't WANNA! He'll make me hang out with KALLUS and I HATE his sideburns! Or he'll make me call my MOTHER and I DON'T WANNA!"

"*sigh* I wasn't really that bad, was I, Obi-Wan? Yoda?"

"Payback time, it is, young Skywalker."

The only way any of those things can be considered wildly improbable is if I accept YOUR assumptions and ignore what is shown in the film. You are treating the movie like an RPG video game, which is just silly to me.

    - Rey getting the saber wasn't far fetched at all... she was already shown to have a bond with it
    - I see nothing wrong with her recovering from the force push at all.
    - Force aggression? WTF? This isn't a video game
    - Kylo won most of the duel, he only lost when Rey temporarily overpowered him right at the end by calling on the force. This made total sense in the context of the film.

Edit: I don't understand your obsession with this. It's not even close to the most improbably thing that's happened in a SW film... heck there are several things that happen in TFA alone that are more improbable.
