For sure. I've been toying with all sorts of things of late; that perhaps Ben really was a moody child with very rough edges, which would have made him an easy target to be scapegoated for the events at the academy? And what exactly would make Han "weak" in his eyes; surely more than just being one of the "good guys"; it could very well be just the opposite, that he wasn't strong enough to be more omnipresent as the man of the house...or not strong enough to believe his son when it was easier to toe the popular way of thinking of Ben as a killer (or even just a bad kid), or...who knows! That said, there weren't any apologies (from what I remember) coming from Han on the catwalk...so maybe that was the moment RenBen was waiting for during that moment when they were seeming equals, both in control - and yet not - of the icon which defines KR most, and Han blew it? Very symbolic, perhaps.

I may be reading way too much into this character; but I certainly hope not. Whereas most villains we love to hate, he's the "villain" I love to love. :)

I'm mixed about Kylo / Ben. His temper leaves a lot to be desired. How many Star Destroyer bulkheads have they had to replace because he was in a bad mood. I guess that's better than force choking the bearer of bad news, though.

On the other hand he has some incredible powers. Hux certainly knows not to question his results from the interrogations. And he didn't need the big black ball droid like Vader.

That catwalk scene was cold. Just darn cold. "Can you help me?" "Yes!" (he says hopefully) *lightsaber* *dead Han* "Thank you." Wow. Cold.

On another note, if the bad guys are the "Knights of Ren," would the good guys be the "Soldiers of Stimpy"? Yes, I'm showing my age. Make me the Court Jester, if you must.

    Can I join, too?

I love Kylo, and I feel like people don't appreciate how complex and interesting a character he is. I hate it when people say that he is weak. I also think he is pretty hot, in a weird, unconventional way. [face_love] I always have a thing for villains.

I'm hoping that he is redeemed to the light in the end. What do you guys think? Should he turn back into Ben, or stay bad?

    Hey!

Been lingering on here for awhile now but I finally decided to sign up just so I could join the Kylo Ren fan club. Really enjoyed Driver's performance and how interesting Kylo is as a character. I was surprised after seeing the film the first time that he was my favorite character, as I'm usually not a fan of villains. I also loved the parallels with the Han/Ben confrontation vs Old Ben/Vader in ANH because they both seem to have so much history together that the audience just doesn't know about (After seeing ANH the first time, not including PT). I for one did enjoy not having their whole back stories explained to leave a little mystery. Finally... That hair... I'm a guy but still... I would join the dark side if they promised locks like that! Thanks for hearing me out and glad to be part of the community.

Welcome, I'll get you up. :) Yes, Kylo does have amazing hair. I would join the dark side tenfold for Anakin's though.

Maybe the real reason Kylo hates his father is because he was always trying to give him a haircut!

I head a good theory that, since Kylo has perfect hair when he takes off his helmet with no helmet hair flatdown, there must be a complex system of blowers and hairdryers built into the mask itself. I've heard less plausible star wars theories.

Anyway, the point is, dude, Matt straight up sucks.

In the book, Kylo is put on the defensive by Hux outing him to Snoke.
    Snoke: Where is the droid?
Smooth and unctuous, the voice of General Hux rang out in the assembly hall before Ren could respond. "Ren believed it was no longer of value to us. He believed that the girl was all we need. That he could obtain from her everything necessary. As a result, although we cannot be certain, it is likely that the droid has been returned to the hands of the enemy."
I don't recall that happening in the movie. Did Hux really go toe to toe with a powerful Force user like Kylo?

I recall an abbreviated version of that call-out in the movie, yes.

Hux is intriguing. He seems too young to wield such power, and there must be a reason beyond foolish cockiness he is willing to challenge Ren. Perhaps he is a lot more intelligent and a much greater asset to the First Order than he would first appear?

Hux is very much like Tarkin is, but Kylo does not have anywhere near the self-restraint that Vader had. Not that Vader has a huge amount of it anyway, that is.

That was just part of his plan to keep the employees from knowing who he is.
